White-collar hiring shows strong momentum, led by consumer electronics sector

White-collar hiring in India is showing strong momentum, with a 2 per cent month-over-month (MoM) and a significant year-over-year (YoY) growth, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker, a monthly report by the job platform foundit (formerly Monster APAC & ME). Leading this surge is the consumer electronics sector, which saw a remarkable 70 per cent YoY spike, while the logistics and transportation sector fueled MoM growth with a 5 per cent uptick. Senior management roles emerged as a key focus area, registering the highest YoY growth at 36 per cent , signalling robust leadership hiring. Among cities, Mumbai stood out with the strongest YoY growth at 23 per cent . These trends reflect growing sectoral resilience, innovation, and a strategic push towards long-term, sustainable workforce development. 'The consistent rise in white-collar hiring reflects India's shifting economic landscape and the growing demand for skilled talent,' said Anupama Bhimrajka, VP of marketing at foundit. 'From leadership to entry-level roles, industries are showing resilience and agility, with metros leading the way and tier-2 cities quickly gaining ground. Encouragingly, diversity hiring has evolved into a strategic priority, with organisations embedding inclusion into core HR practices to drive meaningful representation for women, persons with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups.' Over the past two years, diversity hiring in India has evolved from a compliance-driven mandate to a strategic workforce priority, growing by 53 per cent . Women have seen the most significant gains, particularly in early-career and mid-level roles. Hiring for persons with disabilities (PwD) has also improved, albeit modestly, supported by more inclusive workplace designs. Despite positive year-over-year (YoY) growth, the month-over-month (MoM) change for May 2025 showed a slight decline of 2 per cent , indicating a temporary slowdown in hiring momentum. However, this minor dip does not overshadow the consistent efforts and ongoing commitment to advancing diversity hiring over the past year. The share of women in diversity hiring grew from 53 per cent to 68 per cent this year, reflecting a strong focus on gender inclusion. Meanwhile, hiring for persons with disabilities (PwD) rose from 2 per cent to 5 per cent , highlighting an expanding commitment to inclusive talent acquisition. The IT-software and services sector grew its share of diversity hiring from 19 per cent to 23 per cent , while BFSI dipped from 30 per cent to 21 per cent over the last year. Sectors like e-commerce, retail, telecom, FMCG, and manufacturing are advancing on their DEI journeys, with manufacturing and automotive showing promising shifts towards gender inclusion through automation, smart factories, and targeted upskilling. Metro cities continue to lead women-centric hiring, driven by proactive initiatives in BFSI and IT leadership pipelines. Mumbai and Pune are at the forefront, offering structured return-to-work programmes and implementing diversity quotas in mid-to-senior management roles. Interestingly, tier-2 cities such as Coimbatore, Jaipur, and Chandigarh are rapidly catching up through targeted skilling programmes and the development of women-led entrepreneurship zones — demonstrating that inclusive hiring is no longer confined to metro corridors. Further, hiring trends across experience levels reveal a strong year-on-year trajectory, despite minor month-on-month fluctuations. Entry-level roles (0–3 years of experience) saw a slight 3 per cent MoM dip but maintained robust 19 per cent YoY growth, reflecting sustained demand for early-career talent. Mid-level professionals (4–6 years) witnessed a 3 per cent MoM increase and a solid 16 per cent YoY rise. Those with 7–10 years of experience recorded a marginal 2 per cent MoM decline yet posted an impressive 31 per cent YoY jump — indicating a growing need for experienced, hands-on professionals. Hiring for candidates with 11–15 years of experience remained steady MoM, with a 12 per cent YoY increase. Interestingly, demand for senior professionals (over 15 years) rose by 4 per cent MoM but declined 8 per cent YoY, pointing to a more selective approach in leadership hiring.

AI Adoption, GCCs Growth Push IT Sector Hiring to 16% in April: Report

You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. A recently released report noted that the Information Technology sector hiring expanded by 16 percent year-on-year in April 2025 in India due to factors such as "Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption, cloud modernisation, and continued growth of Global Capacity Centres (GCCs)". "India's IT sector is entering a new era of strategic growth," said V. Suresh, CEO, foundit. "We are witnessing a clear shift from scale-based hiring to a strong focus on specialized, future-ready skills. This transformation reflects India's broader vision to empower its youth for global leadership in science and innovation. While metros continue to drive demand for experienced talent, tier-2 cities are rapidly emerging as vibrant talent hubs," he added. According to IBEF, India's corporate landscape is going through a shift, which is mainly driven by the rise in the number of GCCs. As per an EY report, India accounted for 55 per cent of the world's GCC centres in 2022 and 1,580 centres in 2023. "It is projected that the GCCs in India will cross 1,900 centres by 2025 and 2,400 centres by 2030," IBEF noted. "GCCs played a significant role in this hiring growth, contributing over 1,10,000 new tech jobs in FY25, and ramping up demand for roles like data engineering, DevOps, and enterprise architecture," the report by job platform foundit stated. AI adoption is also growing substantially, with multiple reports claiming as many as 60-70 per cent of businesses in India will integrate AI in their daily operations by the end of 2025 or early 2026. The 'foundit Insight Tracker' report stated that while month-on-month hiring saw an 11 per cent drop due to "seasonality", consistent gains were being witnessed over the last three months. "In 2022–23, the sector experienced a significant correction, with a 22 per cent decline, largely due to global economic uncertainties and tech spending rationalisation. The tide began to turn in 2023–24, with hiring picking up by 9 per cent as market conditions stabilised and enterprises resumed digital investments. The latest data for 2024–25 points to a strong 16 per cent growth, underscoring renewed optimism and sustained demand for digital talent," the report noted. The report also claimed that startups providing IT services were hiring aggressively, thereby adding to overall expansion. "The IT hiring landscape has undergone a dynamic shift over the last five years. Startups, once cautious, have become aggressive recruiters, especially in AI and emerging tech, leading to fresher and specialist hiring. MNCs and GCCs, while continuing to anchor the market, have adapted with selective hiring and deeper engagement in tier-2 cities," the report stated. Cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai recorded a 9 per cent year-on-year growth in hiring, while Delhi-NCR reported a 7 per cent growth, reflecting steady demand for tech talent. In these cities, mid- to senior-level professionals with 4–10+ years of experience remain in high demand. In tier-2 cities such as Coimbatore, Vadodara and Jaipur, however, entry-level hiring is gaining more traction, as more and more satellite hubs are being created. Globally, too, the employment opportunities in the IT sector are set to witness an expansion. "The recently signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will further enhance the global hiring prospects with India having secured significant commitments on digitally delivered services for Indian service suppliers, especially in professional services such as engineering and computer-related services, among others, opening up new job opportunities," said Madan Sabnavis, chief economist, Bank of Baroda.

India's IT sector logs 16% growth in hiring on AI boost

Bengaluru: Information technology (IT) sector in India is witnessing strong growth, with hiring activity increasing by 16 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in April 2025, a new report said on Friday. A major driver behind this growth is the rapid expansion of Global Capability Centres (GCCs), which have created over 110,000 new tech jobs during the financial year 2024-25, according to data compiled by jobs platform foundit (formerly Monster APAC and ME). This hiring boom comes despite an 11 per cent month-on-month dip in April, which the report attributes to seasonal trends. Overall, the outlook remains positive, with consistent demand across experience levels and an increasing focus on specialised, future-ready skills. According to V Suresh, CEO of foundit, the sector is entering a new phase of 'strategic growth'. He emphasised that India is moving from quantity-based hiring to skill-based, innovation-led employment. 'This transformation reflects India's broader vision to empower its youth for global leadership in science and innovation,' he said, adding that tier-2 cities are becoming important contributors to the digital economy. GCCs are playing a central role in this shift, especially in areas like data engineering, DevOps, and enterprise architecture. The move reflects a larger transformation in India's IT hiring -- from mass recruitment to quality-focused hiring based on in-demand skills, the report said. It highlighted a growing demand for roles in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. These areas together now make up 95 per cent of job postings in the IT sector. Further, employers are more focussed on practical expertise than on formal degrees, with 62 per cent of companies now prioritising skills over qualifications. In terms of salaries, specialised roles are offering impressive packages. Entry-level AI roles start at Rs7.2 lakh per annum, while experienced professionals in AI can earn up to Rs76.4 lakh. Cybersecurity remains one of the highest-paid domains, with top salaries reaching Rs 87 lakh.
