Elks pay tribute to frontlines and first responders in first game of August
The Edmonton Elks faced the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday at the Commonwealth Stadium in a special game that included a flyover salute by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Both teams hit the field for a celebration of 'frontline heroes and first responders.'
New this year was a flag football tournament on the day of the game that was made up of local service workers. They competed for the very first Salute to Service Cup.
While the cup is new, the Salute to Service game is an annual tradition that sees athletes and fans honouring those who serve.
The Elks' official website said both the game and the tournament are all about 'pride, gratitude and community spirit.'
