Former Japan PM Suga, South Korea President Lee discuss bilateral ties
Former Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung have agreed that they will promote efforts to contribute to the interests of their two countries.
The two met for about 40 minutes in Seoul on Wednesday.
Suga, who heads the Japan-Korea Parliamentarians' Union, visited the capital with senior members of the group.
Lee said exchanges between people of the two countries have been increasing, and that favorability toward each other has been rising. He also said he hopes bilateral relations will develop in a future-oriented manner.
Suga said he will make efforts to promote friendly ties between people in the two countries through exchanges between the Japanese and South Korean parliamentarians' unions.
The South Korean presidential office said Lee and Suga agreed that the two countries will communicate at various levels amid the severe international situation. The office said they also agreed to promote efforts to contribute to the two countries' national interests.
Meanwhile, Nagashima Akihisa, who is a special advisor to Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and among the delegation, conveyed to Lee Ishiba's message calling for the president to soon visit Japan.
