Riley Minix hits overtime game winner as the Spurs beat the Jazz
The clock read 1.9 seconds. Utah Jazz big man Kyle Filipowski stormed around the court screaming, 'This is my (expletive)' and a few other curse words. He was rightfully fired up after a game-tying poster dunk over San Antonio Spurs rookie Carter Bryant. His exuberance would be short-lived. San Antonio drew up a play to get Bryant some revenge with a lob or give the ball to their second overall pick, Dylan Harper, who had sent the game to overtime with a game-tying layup at the end of regulation. With neither option open, the ball found the hands of undrafted free agent turned two-way player, Riley Minix. The Morehead State product quickly turned to the baseline and put up a prayer fadeaway that splashed in to secure a 93-91 win over the Jazz. Advertisement With the win, the Spurs improved to 3-0 in the Las Vegas Summer League and have a +29 point differential. A win on Thursday night against the Charlotte Hornets would likely put San Antonio in the semi-finals with a chance to win the summer league championships. They don't hang banners for summer league titles, but it's great to see the young squad competing at a high level. The communication, defensive effort, and resilience are exactly what you'd like to see from a group of young, hungry players. Chief among those players is David Jones-Garcia, who had another great game for the Spurs. He finished with 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 5-11 from three. Jones-Garcia is having an unbelievable summer league run. Forget a two-way contract, he deserves a full-time roster spot. Whether it is in San Antonio or elsewhere. Typically, the 'too good for summer league' title is reserved for second-year players who are forced to play a few games before getting shut down. Jones-Garcia is the rare G Leaguer who is truly too good for this stage. He's ready for the NBA. Harper was solid in his second summer league game. He had 16 points, but struggled with turnovers, coughing up the ball 5 times. Bryant's offensive woes continued as he finished with 5 points on 2-11 shooting from the field. He continues to shine on the defensive end and had two blocks in the win. Advertisement This was a bounce-back game for Harrison Ingram, who has struggled a bit in the summer league. He made good passes and fought hard on the glass. He notched a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while tossing 6 assists. The Spurs will have a tough test ahead of them in the Hornets, who are also undefeated. Harper's status will be one to watch. He played 25 minutes, more than the 20-minute restriction San Antonio put him on in his first game. Tolbert singled off Sean Manaea, who had been dominant in relief in his season debut for the Mets. And when the speedster stole second base, that gave Loftin the chance to deliver another winner after his deciding single Tuesday against Pittsburgh.

Jackie Young Scores Final 10 Points For Aces In 104-102 Win Over Valkyries
Aja Wilson scored 34 points, Jackie Young added 30, including her team's final 10 points, and the Las Vegas Aces beat the Golden State Valkyries 104-102 on Saturday. The score was tied at 94 with 1:49 remaining before Young scored on the next five possessions for Las Vegas. She hit a mid-range pullup jumper for a two-point lead and made a driving layup to make it 98-94. She made two free throws on each of the Aces' next three possessions to seal the win. While Young was in control on the Aces' offensive end, the Valkyries kept it close with a 3-pointer by Cecilia Zandalasini with 17 seconds left and another by Tiffany Hayes with 7 seconds left making it 102-100. Young's final pair of free throws made it 104-100, and the Valkyries' Kayla Thornton made a long two-pointer for the final score. Young, an 89 percent free-throw shooter coming in, was 11-for-11 from the line. The Aces made 30 of 35 as a team. Wilson, who injured her wrist earlier in the week, returned to the lineup and made 12 of 16 shots to go with 9 of 12 free throws. She added 16 rebounds. Jewell Loyd scored 15 points. All five Golden State starters scored in double figures led by Hayes and Janelle Salaun with 16 points each. Temi Fagbenle scored 13, Veronica Burton 11, and Thornton 10. Zandalasini scored 12 off the bench. It was the expansion Valkyries' first trip to Las Vegas. Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase was an Aces' assistant in their championship seasons of 2022 and 2023. The Valkyries (10-10) had won five of eight coming in.
