Grieving B.C. family appeals for ‘truth and closure' after gang-related shooting
Jaskaran Singh Minhas, 29, is seen in a handout image from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. The family of a B.C. man who was gunned down in a gang-related shooting earlier this year is appealing to the public for helping bringing his killers to justice. Authorities found 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas bleeding inside a vehicle after responding to a shooting in a Surrey mall parking lot on March 3. Despite first responders' attempts to save his life, Minhas died at the scene. On Monday, his family issued a statement through the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team urging anyone with information on the killing to come forward. 'We are heartbroken parents desperately seeking answers about what happened to our son,' they wrote. 'Since that day, our lives have been turned upside down as we cope with this unimaginable loss.' Witnesses or tipsters could help deliver 'truth and closure' to Minhas' grieving loved ones, the family said. 'As parents, we need to know why this happened and who is responsible. No one should lose their child like we have,' they added. In a news release, IHIT said investigators have made 'significant progress' on the case since March, including by identifying several persons of interest. Dodge Charger Authorities say a red Dodge Charger was used in the planning and execution of the shooting that killed Jaskaran Singh Minhas. (Handout) Authorities believe multiple individuals were involved in the planning and execution of the shooting – but so far, no suspects have been charged. A red Dodge Charger used in the shooting was found in flames the same day in neighbouring Delta, and IHIT shared new details on the vehicle's relevance to the investigation on Monday. The homicide team said evidence indicates the Charger was used 'for planning purposes' in the weeks leading up to Minhas' death, and was determined to be in Abbotsford near the U.S. border and in Surrey's Fleetwood area during that time. IHIT also shared a new image of the Charger in the hopes anyone with information on the vehicle or its occupants will reach out to investigators.

16-year-old arrested in gang-related shooting at busy Clearwater Avenue intersection
Police arrested a 16-year-old accused of firing at a car at a busy Clearwater Avenue intersection in a gang-related shooting last week. Three teens were on the sidewalk near the corner of Edison Street about 6:15 p.m. on April 28 when one of them reportedly opened fire at a passing car, Kennewick police Commander Isaac Merkl told the Tri-City Herald. The car, with about three or four people inside, sped away, and Merkl said investigators haven't determined if anyone in the car also fired a shot. No one was reported wounded. Police talked with the teens on the sidewalk but they didn't have enough evidence to hold them, Merkl said. In the past week, Kennewick detectives found evidence linking the teens to the shooting, he said. Tri-City Regional SWAT team and Criminal Apprehension Team detectives searched two Clearwater Avenue homes on Thursday morning and arrested the 16-year-old, Kennewick police said in a Facebook post. The teen was booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree assault and illegally having a gun.
