Midfielder's 35-yard rocket snubbed for goal of the month
CAMERON Brannagan has been snubbed for the Sky Bet Championship goal of the month award for April. The Oxford United midfielder was named on a four-man shortlist for his 35-yard rocket which rescued a point at Cardiff City on Easter Monday. United were 1-0 down approaching the final 10 minutes when a central free kick was awarded 35 yards from goal. Tyler Goodrham touched the ball for Brannagan to run onto, and the 29-year-old unleashed a powerful rising effort which flew past Ethan Horvath in the Bluebirds goal. WOW! 🤯 An absolute ROCKET from Oxford United's Cameron Brannagan! 🚀 — Sky Sports Football (@SkyFootball) April 21, 2025 Brannagan though has missed out to Sunderland forward Eliezer Mayenda, who scored a solo effort in a 2-1 loss at Bristol City. Mayenda opened the scoring just after half an hour had been played when he collected the ball outside his own penalty area, skipped past a couple of challenges and raced up the pitch into the Robins box, where he fizzed in a strike. WOW! This solo effort from Sunderland's Eliezer Mayenda 😮💨 — Sky Sports Football (@SkyFootball) April 18, 2025 Swansea City right back Josh Key for his 30-yard strike against Plymouth Argyle and Coventry City attacker Jamie Paterson for his stoppage time half-volley in a 1-0 win against Portsmouth were both also nominated for the award. Online votes from fans were combined with the choices from a panel to determine the winner.

READ ALSO: U's boss gives update on future of Chelsea loanee Brannagan previously said on the wonder strike: 'It was a very special moment and a long time coming. 'I'm a bit frustrated with my knee and not being able to properly strike through a ball over the past couple of weeks or months maybe. 'It's frustrating but all the frustration came out in that strike to be honest. I hit it lovely and celebrating in front of the fans was a special feeling.' Brannagan is nominated alongside Swansea City right back Josh Key for his 30-yard strike against Plymouth Argyle, attacker Jamie Paterson's stoppage time half-volley in Coventry City's 1-0 win against Portsmouth, and Sunderland forward Eliezer Mayenda's solo effort at Bristol City. U's fans can vote for Brannagan via the EFL website before 5pm on Monday. Votes will then be combined with the choices from a panel, and all winners will be announced on Friday, May 16.
