Investigation into golf cart accident that left NFL legend John Elway's agent dead remains open
Deputies in California will keep open an investigation into a golf cart accident reportedly involving Denver Broncos legend John Elway but say all witnesses have been interviewed, and nothing indicates foul play was involved. TMZ reported John Elway was driving a golf cart at The Madison Club in La Quinta, California, April 26 when his longtime agent and friend, Jeffrey Sperbeck, 62, fell out and hit his head. The two were leaving a Stagecoach after-party, the outlet reported. A spokesperson for Cal Fire told Fox News Digital Sperbeck sustained "serious injuries" and was transported to a hospital. He was initially listed in critical condition, but he died April 30. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco told Fox News Digital the case will remain open until all residents who may have video are contacted, but there's nothing indicating foul play. "We determined the case would remain open until we contacted all residents who might have video of the path traveled. All potential witnesses have been interviewed. There is no evidence or statement to indicate this is nothing more than a tragic accident," Bianco said. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Bureau previously ruled Sperbeck's death accidental, saying his death was the result of blunt head trauma, according to a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. The coroner's office said the injury happened when the "passenger fell from" the golf cart. In a statement released after Sperbeck's death, Elway said he was "devastated," according to ESPN. "I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck," Elway said. "There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me." Sperbeck's family also released a statement. "We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Jeff Sperbeck. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all," the Sperbeck family said. "We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elway's and the many other clients Jeff called friends." Sperbeck became Elway's manager in 1990. Among Sperbeck's clients were Pro Football Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott and Jim Plunkett, in addition to hundreds of other NFL players.

Coroner reveals Jeff Sperbeck, John Elway's former agent, cause of death following golf cart fall
Jeff Sperbeck, the longtime agent, business partner and friend of John Elway, died after he was involved in a serious incident involving a golf cart. Sperbeck was 62. Elway, a former Denver Broncos quarterback, was reportedly driving the motorized vehicle at the time of the deadly accident. The Riverside County (California) coroner confirmed that Sperbeck died on April 30 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California. The injury had occurred four days earlier in nearby La Quinta. On Friday, the coroner's office ruled Sperbeck's death accidental and said he had died as a result of blunt head trauma. "The Cause of Death is 'Blunt Head Trauma,' and the Manner of Death is 'Accident,' and the Mode of Death (How the injury occurred) is 'Passenger fell from golf cart.'" the coroner's bureau said in the statement obtained by Fox News Digital. The statement added that the injury occurred when the "passenger fell from" the golf cart. Last week, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco made it clear that investigators had found "nothing" to suggest that criminal activity had taken place during the incident. "This appears to be a horrific accident," Bianco told the Post, noting that "a couple" of the people involved in the incident "happen to be very high-profile celebrities," Bianco told the Denver Post. "And that makes this more of an issue than it probably should be," Bianco said at the time, noting that his department had received a "massive media inquiry" after the news broke. "We're doing everything we can to make sure that this is what it appears to be, and just an accident," he added. Elway released a statement on April 30 saying he was left "heartbroken." "I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck," Elway said in a statement, via ESPN. "There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me. " Elway won two Super Bowls with the Broncos and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004. Wife of John Elway's agent and business partner Jeff Sperbeck posts heartbreaking farewell after tragedy
The wife of long-time NFL agent and John Elway's business partner Jeff Sperbeck has posted a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband after he was killed in a tragic golf cart accident. 'I will miss you everyday of my life,' Cori Sperbeck wrote on Threads alongside a picture of the couple. 'Thank you for loving me.' In addition to Cori, Jeff leaves behind three children: Carly, Sam and Jackson. Cori previously announced Jeff's death last week, calling the 62-year-old a 'wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend to many.' 'We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elway's (sic) and the many other clients Jeff called friends,' read the April 30 statement. 'We are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received and ask for privacy for our family at this difficult time.' Sperbeck died as a result of blunt head trauma after their horrific golf cart accident, a coroner ruled this week. Police do not suspect any foul play. He died the previous week, succumbing to the devastating injuries he sustained by falling off the back of a golf cart in La Quinta, California four days earlier. To add to the tragedy, the legendary Denver Broncos quarterback had been the one driving the vehicle near The Madison Club. Others present included Elway's girlfriend, the Hall of Famer's son and daughter-in-law, as well as Sperbeck and his wife, Cori, according to 9News. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has told TMZ that the Coroner's Bureau has also ruled Sperbeck's death an accident. Elway and the group had plans to attend the outdoor Stagecoach country music festival in nearby Indio on April 26, but that idea was scrapped due to unseasonably cold weather. Instead, the three couples were included in a caravan of three-to-four golf carts carrying between 10 and 15 people on a quarter-mile trip from a private function at the Madison Club to Elway's home on the resort. Elway was driving the golf cart at the rear of the caravan with his girlfriend seated alongside. Prior to departing, Sperbeck suggested to his wife that she should sit up front with Elway and his girlfriend, while offering to stand on the back of the cart alongside another passenger, Johnny Devenanzio. No swerving or horseplay took place, sources told 9News, but somehow, Sperbeck fell backwards, instantly hitting his head on the ground. Devenanzio yelled for Elway to stop the cart, which Elway did, allowing Cori to rush over to her husband. Sperbeck was still breathing, although the severity of his injury was instantly apparent. It was Elway who called 9-1-1 and Sperbeck was rushed to a nearby hospital. Elway later released a statement saying he was 'absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck. 'There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.' 'My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff's wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. 'Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.' Elway, who played his whole career on the Denver Broncos, hired lawyer Harvey Steinberg last week, according to Fox. Sperbeck didn't represent Elway during the beginning of the signal caller's NFL career when he was drafted in 1983, previously quipping that 'John's older than me, I was still in college.' Instead, the sports agent came into Elway's life in 1990, when Elway was already a star for the Denver Broncos. While Elway dominated on the field, winning two Super Bowls with the Broncos, Sperbeck helped the Hall of Famer establish his off-field empire. They went on to form wine company 7Cellars together in 2013 - 15 years after Elway hung up his cleats and retired from the NFL.

Authorities Make Ruling on Tragic Accident Involving John Elway
Authorities have issued a ruling on the death of Jeff Sperbeck, John Elway's longtime friend and agent, who passed away in a tragic golf cart accident late last month. According to the Riverside (Calif.) County Coroner's Bureau, Sperbeck, 62, died of "accidental blunt head trauma" after falling off a golf cart driven by Elway on the night of April 26. The two were part of a group returning from a function at the Madison Club in La Quinta, according to a report from 9News. Sperbeck was riding on the back of the cart when he fell off, striking his head on the pavement. The group immediately called 9-1-1, but emergency and hospital personnel were unable to save Sperbeck, who was put on life support until his organs could be harvested for donation. The incident was investigated, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Office concluded there was "nothing to indicate that this is anything more than a tragic accident.' "There was no swerving or horseplay, according to sources. No one was drunk, according to multiple sources. The cart didn't hit anything. It had been a smooth ride," 9 News' Mike Klis wrote. In addition to representing Elway since 1990, along with a host of other big-name NFL players, Sperbeck co-founded 7Cellars Winery in 2015 with the Hall of Fame quarterback. 'I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck," Elway said following Sperbeck's death. "There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me. My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff's wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. "Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.'
