Fairfield grass fire forces evacuations in Vista Grande area

FAIRFIELD — A grass fire in Fairfield has forced mandatory evacuations in the Vista Grande area late Monday afternoon. The fire has burned more than 15 acres along Vista Grande near Capitola Way, north of Waterman Boulevard. The City of Fairfield said shortly after 4:30 p.m. that a mandatory evacuation order was in place for Palmer Circle and Bear Creek Drive. An evacuation warning was in place for Cherry Valley Circle. Cal Fire said it also deployed crews to assist with the firefight. Southeast of that scene, Fairfield firefighters were also working a smaller grass fire in the area of East Travis Boulevard and Sunset Avenue. The size of this fire was not yet clear. No injuries have been reported in either fire. It is not known how each fire started.

Grass fire sparks at Singleton Landfill, flames extinguished

(KRON) – The San Jose Fire Department responded to a grass fire early Sunday morning. The blaze was reported at around 12:13 a.m. at the Singleton Landfill property on the 800 block of Singleton Road. The department said the fire impacted approximately two acres. The flames were extinguished less than an hour later. Cliff rescue at Batteries to Bluffs hiking trail SJFD said there were no reported injuries. Parts of Calgary Zoo temporarily closed due to small grass fire

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo was forced to temporarily close some areas on Monday due to a small grass fire. In a social media post, the zoo said the fires have since been extinguished. 'The outdoor loop from Destination Africa through to Land of Lemurs is temporarily closed due to small spontaneous grass fires near the African lion habitat,' the zoo said in the post. The zoo said the lion habitat will remain closed but reassured guests that the animals are safe and have been moved indoors. 'We appreciate your understanding and co-operation as we prioritize the safety of our animals, staff and visitors,' the zoo said. The Calgary Fire Department is monitoring the area for any remaining hot spots.
