Why Kelly Ripa Is Absent From ‘Live' After Husband Mark Consuelos' Break
One week after Mark Consuelos took the week off from his cohosting duties on Live with Kelly and Mark, his wife, Kelly Ripa, is taking her much-deserved break. Ripa, 54, is on summer vacation, which in the past has lasted for about a week. Consuelos, also 54, has been doing the show with a rotating cast of cohosts in her absence. Nobody Wants This star Jackie Tohn joined Consuelos on Monday, August 4, with Step Up actress Jenna Dewan filling in on Tuesday, August 5, and Rita Ora pinch-hitting on Wednesday, August 6. Guest hosts David Muir, Jerry O'Connell, Carson Kressley and Steve Patterson all stepped in for Consuelos while he was off last week. Inside Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' Tropical Getaway Before 1st 'Live' Episode: Photos Live, which premiered as The Morning Show in 1983, has a long history of guest hosts. When Ripa and Consuelos first met Tohn, 45, they agreed she was a perfect candidate. "When Kelly and I got done meeting you and walked off, we said, 'Wow, she would be a great fill-in,' " Consuelos told the actress on-air. "Really?' she replied. 'That makes me want to cry. Thank you." Despite her current vacation, Ripa has been hosting Live since 2001 when she replaced Kathie Lee Gifford alongside Regis Philbin and has shown no signs of slowing down. She told Entertainment Weekly in 2023 that, while she has thought about retiring, she doesn't have any plans to do so. 'I am always thinking about retiring,' she said with a laugh. 'It is my favorite topic of discussion.' Kelly Ripa Is 'So Proud' of Husband Mark Consuelos as Couple Wraps 1st Week of 'Live': 'I Was Never Worried' Ripa and Consuelos married in 1996 and have three children together — Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22. They have cohosted Live since 2023, though Consuelos admitted in July that the two of them see less of each other now than they did before they were coworkers. 'We work together in the morning and then we usually go off in our separate ways and we see each other for dinner,' he told Us Weekly exclusively at the Running With the Wolves premiere on July 23. Regardless of how much time they spend together, the dynamic between the couple works. As Consuelos said, it's because he doesn't just love his wife — he likes her. 'I really like my wife. A lot,' he said. 'The love's always going to be there, but I really like my wife.' Ripa added that the two have been together for so long that their shared history has strengthened their bond. 'We have a shared history and there's something really nice,' she told Us. 'Our kids have been watching, like various documentaries about things and they're like, 'Were you and Dad alive for that?' And I go, 'We were married for that!' Like, we were married when that happened. So it's very nice to have a combined decades long history with a person.' Solve the daily Crossword

Where is Mark Consuelos? Carson Kressley Joins Kelly Ripa as Guest Host on ‘Live'
Today on Live with Kelly and… Carson Kressley! Mark Consuelos was absent from Thursday's Live with Kelly and Mark, where Kelly Ripa led the show alongside Kressley. The two welcomed Moulin Rouge star Taye Diggs and The Doobie Brothers. Today's episode marked the third day in a row of guest hosts following Jerry O'Connell on Tuesday (July 29) and World News Tonight anchor David Muir on Wednesday (July 30). As for where Consuelos has been this week, Ripa told Live on Tuesday that her husband is 'working on a show out in LA.' This isn't Kressley's first time at the co-host desk with Ripa. In fact, he and Ripa recalled visiting Prince Edward Island on a remote for Live, prompting Ripa to point out how Kressley has actually been on 'a lot of' the show's remotes. Kressley added, 'I have, we were on a cruise ship once in Boston. We went to, like, Bermuda or something. I mean, this is 20 years of traveling. And then Prince Edward Island, and then Hawaii.' The two remembered swimming with turtles and going on a catamaran while at Hawaii's Aulani Resort, or as Kressley teased, 'We did everything The Brady Bunch did, except we didn't find that tiki.' Ripa quipped, 'Right, we weren't cursed.' Kressley agreed, 'It was for the best. Because nothing but bad things happened after that.' Of course, Ripa and Kressley were referring to the family sitcom's Season 4 episode, 'The Tiki Cave,' where Bobby (Mike Lookinland) finds a tiki idol, and although he is warned of its bad luck, he decides to hold onto it. Ripa teased that The Brady is a show that influenced her outlook on travel as a child. 'My whole frame of reference for travel as a kid,' she explained, 'I don't know if you were like me. We were not a traveling family. So my entire frame of reference was The Brady Bunch when they traveled. Or Fantasy Island. Or The Love Boat. That was how we traveled.' Kressley teased of The Love Boat, 'That's how I discovered Puerto Vallarta. Was through The Love Boat.' Live with Kelly and Mark airs on weekdays. Check out their website for your local listings. 'Tonight, is my last show until labor day, I'm going to be off for the summer. I don't want to go either, they put it in my contract, I have to go to fat camp every summer. The truth is I'm going to spend the bulk of my summer at the Newark airport this year. I want to leave on a high note, that's why Seth Rogen is here. I'm going to gone for the next couple of months but rest assured if Donald Trump does anything monumentally crazy or anything that requires an emergency response, I will be in a canoe, ignoring it,' he joked. It marks the fifth year that Kimmel, who baked his summer break into his ABC contract, has taken off the summer, starting in 2020 with no shows during the summer of 2023 as a result of the dual labor strikes in Hollywood. Luna will kick off proceedings on Monday June 23 with guests including Patton Oswalt, David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Stone, Adria Arjona, Alan Tudyk, Ariela Barer, Heidi Klum and Dolores Huerta as well as musical performances by NEZZA, Hermanos Gutiérrez, and Good Charlotte.
