Two south Essex hospices named among group shortlisted for national award
Two south Essex charities have been named as part of a group of hospices shortlisted for a prestigious national award. Havens Hospices, Farleigh Hospice, and St Luke's Hospice, working together as the Hospice Collaborative Partnership, have been recognised at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards. The group was shortlisted in the "HSJ Partnership of the Year" category for its work supporting people nearing the end of their lives to choose where they are cared for. This recognition comes after the group won the "Best Not-for-Profit Working in Partnership with the NHS" category at the HSJ Partnership Awards earlier this year. Louise Bryan, interim CEO of Havens Hospices, said: "On behalf of the Hospice Collaborative Partnership, we are delighted to be shortlisted at the HSJ Awards 2025. "It will be a huge boost for our dedicated and hard-working teams across all three hospices, focusing on providing personalised care for even more people towards the end of their lives. "We're delighted to have been recognised on this prestigious shortlist for a 2025 HSJ Partnership of the Year Award." The three hospices formed their partnership to create the Hospice Rapid Access Service with the NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board. This service is a 24-hour care pathway for adults across Mid and South Essex, providing care in a hospice, care home, or the community. In its first year, it provided care to nearly 3,000 patients, delivering 33,376 nights of care and preventing hospital admissions, equating to 91 hospital beds per day. The community teams delivered 216,954 hours of care for patients in their own homes. The HSJ Awards are a national award that showcase some of the best care and services provided by the NHS and other healthcare organisations. The winner of the 'HSJ Partnership of the Year' category will be announced during the awards ceremony at Evolution London on November 20, 2025.
