Doctor explains how doomscrolling and isolation age your brain
Dr Amir Khan identified five common habits that can accelerate brain ageing during an appearance on Lorraine.
Multitasking, described as having "too many apps open in your head", increases cortisol and reduces grey matter, impacting focus and emotion.
Other detrimental habits include chronic sleep deprivation, excessive "doom scrolling", regularly skipping meals, and a lack of social interaction.
Reduced social contact is particularly harmful, as it can lead to isolation, which has been linked to dementia and compared to the health impact of smoking 15 cigarettes daily.
