This Once-Drab Midcentury Home Near Seattle Just Got a Luxe Jewel-Toned Makeover
On the north shore of Washington's Mercer Island—part of the Seattle metro area—a midcentury abode just got a colorful and deluxe upgrade. Originally built in 1962, the property's bones were strong, but its design details were feeling dated and dark to the home's owners, who worked with the local firm Dyna Builders to update the five-bedroom, 3.5-bath layout. Now it feels like a modern lakefront home that looks to the future by leaning into both midcentury and Pacific Northwest aesthetics. An enhanced sense of flow was brought into the kitchen, where circulation paths were reconfigured and a large marble island was added. Aquatic blue cabinets mirror the hues of the lake, which sits just beyond the newly installed deck, accessible via a wide sliding-glass door. The original stone fireplace has been retained, but the design team added LED lighting to the onyx hearth for a warmer glow. Four of the bedrooms are located on the ground floor, where much of the original layout was kept as-is. The primary bedroom opens to a private balcony, while the chicly refreshed bathroom includes a chrome soaking tub and a shower encased in black-paned glass panels. Elsewhere are a home gym, a sleek office, and a floral-wallpapered wine room. Outside, several distinct seating areas make the most of the lakeside setting. The large deck adjacent to the kitchen is set up for alfresco dining, while the covered lower-level patio, where the team took out posts and installed steel beams to allow for better views, is situated around a fire pit. Set above a lawn that slopes down to the shore is a serene hot tub encased in wood planks. While the property feels tucked away in nature, Mercer Island is a mere seven miles from downtown Seattle, and less than five from Bellevue, Washington. So while the home itself is a tranquil getaway in the middle of nature, it has the best of both worlds, with city living just across the of Robb Report The 10 Priciest Neighborhoods in America (And How They Got to Be That Way) In Pictures: Most Expensive Properties Click here to read the full article.

The past year and a half has brought many changes for Lindsay Hubbard: a new relationship, a new baby, and now a new apartment. Fans got a taste of the home upgrade on Friday, May 16, when the Summer House cast member shared footage of her big move-in day. 'Okay back to the moving content you guys didn't ask for!' she wrote in the Instagram video, which showed a long hallway lined with dozens of unopened boxes and protective floor runners. The clip provided a glimpse at the apartment's wooden floors and hallway pillars, as well as the kitchen and a few storage areas. 'These guys work so hard omg!' she said, referring to the Roadway Moving crew. 'The fact that they packed me in one day and moved me the next… brain is still trying to compute how quick (and safe)… I mean, it's really incredible. They just unpack and put it all down. They're not going to organize for you, but they literally take it all out of the boxes — there's lots of boxes here — and put it on some shelves… It's kind of incredible.' Between the moving boxes and unpacked items, it was difficult to get a proper view of Lindsay's kitchen; however, the video provided several peeks at the stone-top kitchen island, the chrome appliances, and Lindsay's accessories Lindsay Hubbard Just Debuted a Major Hair Chop: "Oh My God" (VIDEO) Lindsay confirmed her home move during Mother's Day weekend as she began culling items from her wardrobe. Melb family reveal move back in with mum, plan to use RBA rate cut to help upgrade their home
An interest-rate cut this week is set to bring relief to thousands of Melbourne households struggling with mortgages. But for Mentone's Wallace family a cheaper rate on their loan is the signal to ramp up their savings as they plan to upgrade from their first home, bought in 2016. Noelle and Matthew Wallace are currently selling the 5/35 Como Pde East, Mentone, home where they have been raising daughter Mia, 3, and have moved back in with Mr Wallace's mother to maximise their chance to save once they don't have a mortgage. Victorian budget panned as a 'kick in the guts' to first-home buyers It's a rare, but effective move that should also help ensure buyers can inspect the property more conveniently — and will hopefully help them make a six-figure upgrade to their home. The family bought the home in 2016 and the unusual inclusion of a back yard had helped make the apartment a great space to entertain friends and family — while its location close to the beach and local cafes and shops had been invaluable. But with Mia growing they have Obrien Real Estate's John Rombotis helping them to sell at the start of an interest rate cutting cycle they believe offers a rare instance of botha good time to buy and a good time to sell, perfect for an upgrade. 'We had been looking at interest rates, seeing them start to stabilise and plus with the potential for them to drop, we saw that as offering a great sellers market and also for buying, so we hope to be in a good position both ways,' Ms Wallace said. 'But we have been thinking about it from about this time last year. 'And we are back to saving as we try to finalise our purchasing plans, though we had been getting ahead of our mortgage as well.' Even after an interest cut, the family will be putting any saved money from their mortgage aside to help facilitate their next purchase. 'Even $50 could be making a huge difference,' Ms Wallace said. They're aiming to be into their next home in no more than 12 months time, but are hoping to move fairly quickly with the expectation home values could rise as rates fall. 'We definitely feel like we have timed it and it's starting to feel like there's some hope coming, and that people are more confident,' Ms Wallace said. Mr Rombotis said the pair were not alone, but those thinking of selling a home today would need to think carefully about how quickly they could move as a sale without a quick follow up purchase could cost them if prices rose rapidly. The agent is anticipating three rate cuts before the end of this year, and said by the time the third hits buyers would no longer be 'window shopping'. However, for affordable homes with unusual features, like the Wallace's supersized apartment back yard, the ability to concentrate first-home buyers could allow them to catch the first wave of any improvements, with first-home buyers tipped to be among the first to respond to rate cuts.
