Thirty-three arrested in iLembe Women's Day blitz
Female officers in iLembe marked Women's Month with a major crime blitz, arresting 33 people in a single day.
Last Friday Operation Basadi (Women), led by the iLembe District Women's Network, began at the Umvoti Toll Plaza on the N2 with a high-visibility roadblock to promote women's safety and highlight road safety for women. Officers from both the Police Act and Public Service Act divisions engaged motorists and distributed safety information.
The operation then moved into a co-ordinated, multi-disciplinary raid across the district. Arrests included one murder suspect, two for domestic violence-related common assault and four for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Police also detained one person for malicious damage to property, eight for dealing in liquor and another eight for drug possession.
Three undocumented foreign nationals were taken into custody, while two people were arrested for theft and two for drunken driving.
