Google just released the first major Snapseed update in years

Google has completely revamped its Snapseed image editing app on iPhone and iPad. The change, spotted earlier by 9to5Google, is Snapseed's first big update on iOS since adding dark mode in 2021. Snapseed was originally only available on iOS before Google acquired it in 2012 as part of a bid to compete with Instagram. Google later launched Snapseed on Android and made the app free to use. Along with several tools for tweaking RAW and JPG files, Snapseed also offers several filters, including some new vintage ones added with this latest update. The new 3.0 update gives Snapseed a new look on iOS, bringing a new 'Faves' option to the center of the bottom toolbar and allowing you to save specific tools. The 'Looks' tab stays in the same spot on the left side of the toolbar, while Google replaced the 'Export' option with 'Tools' on the right. As noted by 9to5Google, the 'Export' is now in the top-right corner. 'We're bringing a whole new look and feel to Snapseed on iOS,' Google spokesperson Michael Marconi said in a statement to The Verge. 'There are so many people who have loved using Snapseed to edit their photos over the years, so we're giving it a fresh look with a more intuitive layout and a few new features.' It doesn't appear that the update is coming to Snapseed on Android at the same time as iOS, as Marconi said Google doesn't 'have anything to share yet.'

Apple's new design language is Liquid Glass

Apple is introducing a new Liquid Glass design across its software platforms today. It's all about adding transparency and glass shine effects to Apple's in-app interfaces. '[It's] our broadest design update, ever,' says Alan Dye, Apple's VP of human interface. 'For the first time we're introducing a universal design across our platforms.' The new design adds glass-like elements throughout iOS, including to the dock and the lockscreen. Apple's shift away from skeuomorphism in iOS 7 in 2013 has left its mobile OS looking very similar for more than 10 years, with the iOS 7 design style still influencing the most recent versions of iOS. Liquid Glass looks a lot different, though. Apple has used glass themes in the past, most notably with the introduction of Aqua, which first appeared in iMovie 2 in 2000 before rolling out more broadly in Mac OS X 10.0 in 2001. macOS 11 Big Sur also introduced a big redesign to the macOS UI, with more rounded corners, greater use of transparent and translucent layers, and a slew of new icons. Microsoft has also been using transparency effects in its Windows operating system since it launched Windows Vista in 2007, complete with its own Aero Glass theme. The current version of Windows 11 now uses Microsoft's Fluent Design language, which increasingly has more of a focus on 3D, colorful, and playful elements.

Tap and snap a photo with your AIRPODS rumoured to be among three mega upgrades coming to millions of iPhones

AIRPOD owners could soon be in for a big free upgrade that allows them to take photos and more with their iPhone. Camera controls are reportedly being prepared for the upcoming iOS update. 1 All users will have to do is tap the stem of an AirPod earpiece to trigger the camera, according to 9to5Mac. This could come in particularly handy when trying to take selfies or big group shots. But that's not the only trick Apple apparently has up its sleeve. It's rumoured that there will be new sleep detection coming too. This will turn your AirPods off when the device detects that you've nodded off with them in. That means no more sleep timers - and no waking up with all the battery drained. However, it's not clear whether this will work on the AirPods and iPhone, or require an Apple Watch which has built in sleep detecting tech. Elsewhere, new head gestures could be landing as well. AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 owners can already nod their head to accept a call or shake from side to side to decline it. They can do the same with notifications too. I've been secretly wearing new Apple AirPods 4 – 'ear scan' design tweak blew me away But Apple is rumoured to be planning even more, including an extension to the volume adjustment made with Conversation Awareness, which automatically lowers your audio while you're talking. And there might be a new mic mode to deliver "studio quality" for those listening to you. The wait for official word from Apple may not be far off either. Next week the tech giant hosts its annual WWDC conference where it announces all things software and beyond. It may be the first glimpse we get of the firm's refreshed iOS update coming to iPhones later this year, which is rumoured to carry a new name. Reports suggest Apple may be preparing to drop the current numerical structure and align it to the year instead. This would make the next iOS update iOS 26 instead of iOS 19. The Sun will be reporting from California next week to give you all the latest updates.
