Rare deal alert: The new iPad mini is $399, its lowest price ever
The iPad Mini hits the sweet spot for me. It's about the size of my Kindle, but way better for reading magazines. It crushes my iPhone for FaceTime and watching videos and, unlike my full-size iPad, this one fits much more easily in my bag when I am flying. And right now it's down to its lowest price ever, just $399. If you've been holding out, now's the time to cave in and buy one, before the price changes yet again. Priced at $100 off (that's this tablet's lowest price ever!) this might be the iPad you've been waiting for. As a newer addition to Apple's lineup, it typically goes for full price, and we don't expect the discount to stick around for much longer. Think this is just a slightly larger version of your phone? Think again. With a 3:2 aspect ratio compared with the iPhone's 2:1, the iPad mini is much wider and, if you use your tablet to read, it can fit more text and feels more like a book or magazine in your hand. Speaking of fitting in your hand, it's less cumbersome than a full-size iPad, making it great for travel or slipping into a backpack for your commute. As far as features go, this little tablet is packed. It's powered by the A17 Bionic chip, so you should experience zero lag (which I definitely cannot say for my Kindle). It also has a 12-megapixel camera on both the front and back, plus, with its smaller size, you won't look ridiculous holding it up to snap a photo. The optional (but highly recommended) Apple Pencil Pro can turn this tablet into an art studio, whether your medium is photography or digital art. This is also the first iPad mini with Apple Intelligence. What is Apple Intelligence, you ask? It's Apple's way of making your device even more helpful and personalized. It learns from your habits and preferences to suggest things like reminders for meetings, photos from specific events or predictive text while you type, making things run smoother and faster. Since this is the newest iPad Mini, it has only a handful of ratings on Amazon so far, but most of them, 86% in fact, are five-star raves. "I love the iPad mini, especially for use when I travel, and when I need to take it to family gatherings. It's a lot easier to manage than my larger iPad," said this on-the-go fan. "I was concerned at first about the smaller screen, but since you can enlarge the type in the accessibility function on the iPad mini, I have had no problems using it. For portability, you can't [beat] the smaller iPad." "Having used various larger iPads, I find this model strikes an ideal balance between being more expansive than a phone, yet more compact than a laptop," wrote a second reviewer. "Its size is perfect for on-the-go productivity and entertainment." "I had the previous iPad mini and sold it to upgrade to this one," noted a repeat buyer. "It is the exact same excellent build quality and gorgeous display, but with twice the storage of my last one (128GB) and a much better processor. ... Apple Intelligence might sound like a gimmick, but I have been using the beta of iPadOS 18.2 and I am blown away by the image playground app. I am an author, and it has enabled me the power to visualize my characters just by describing them in the playground app. That alone is worth the price of admission for me to Apple Intelligence." "It truly brings the Apple experience in a smaller package," said this fan. But they also offered this note of caution: "If you're upgrading from the mini 6, be aware: The improvements are minor, mostly focused on chip performance, and require a new Apple Pencil Pro." Echoed this shopper: "If you upgrade, know that the Apple Pencil 2 that you bought to use with your 6 will not work with the 7. You will have to buy a new Apple Pencil Pro." Speaking of the Apple Pencil Pro, it's on sale too: If you have Amazon Prime, you'll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.) The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.

Best Buy is having an Apple Sale — this iPad mini is the best deal
There's a big Apple Shopping Event going on right now at Best Buy. As you may know, Apple is a big brand. They don't need deals to drive sales. So, while there are always great Apple deals going on, it always feels like there aren't too many of them at any given time. At least that's my experience with the category. This time around, there are a few deals that stick out. Examples include the Apple Watch SE 2 at $169 and this Apple iPad at just $299. But there's one huge winner, and that's the Apple iPad Mini with an A17 Pro chip and 128GB of storage marked down to just $399. That's a $100 discount off of the $499 regular price. It's all yours if you tap the button below. As always, keep reading for our take. Why you should buy the Apple iPad Mini If you think of Apple iPad Minis being slightly small iPads with refined features, you're definitely in for a treat here because the A17 Pro chip version checks all of the boxes you've been building for it already. It has an 8.3-inch screen, 2266 x 1488 pixel resolution screen, and 8GB of RAM. Its screen is small but pops and has a great aspect ratio for reading, especially comics, and should definitely be considered as a tablet for reading — after all, it does have the friendly paperback book size. Of course, if you want something more action oriented, we've found that this little guy plays games easily as well. As our Apple iPad Mini 2024 review puts it, 'this is the only small tablet out there worth its salt.' Ultimately, this can be considered as a little brother tablet to the 2024's iPad Air as its got good power and a 'snappy, smooth' operation, but all packed up in a miniature size. Getting 2024's Apple iPad Mini for $399 instead of the usual $499 (a savings of $100) is a great deal. Get it now by tapping the button below. Alternatively, you can check out more tablet deals to see if there's something more to your liking on sale, too.

The latest iPad mini drops to a record-low price
The latest Apple iPad Mini is on sale via Amazon , bringing the 128GB model down to a record-low price. Each Wi-Fi-only model has been discounted by $100, so the 128GB version is $399, the 256GB tablet is $499 and the beefy 512GB model is $699. This deal applies to multiple colorways. This is one of the best Apple tablets , and the only choice for those looking for a compact iPad. It's the company's most powerful tablet in this size, as the A17 Pro chip is plenty capable. An M-series chip would have been nice, but it's not in the cards just yet. Having said that, this is still a full-featured iPad that can hang with its larger cousins. It offers support for the Apple Pencil Pro, which is handy, and the 12-megapixel camera on the rear takes decent shots, even in low light. The camera is also a decent choice for scanning documents and QR codes, as noted in our official review . The speakers sound much better than one would expect, though this has become the norm with recent Apple products. The display looks nice, but it is just a standard LCD with a 60Hz refresh rate. Apple tends to reserve its best screen technology for the higher-end tablets. There's no Face ID here, but that's not a deal breaker for me, as I actually prefer Touch ID or just quickly typing in a four digit security code. Watch: Thief crawls through Café Myriade to evade motion detectors during break-in
Montreal Crime By A thief who appeared to exploit a blind spot in the motion sensors at Café Myriade on Saint-Denis St. made off with cash, an iPad and a jar of foreign coins during a break-in late Sunday night, according to the café's owner. It was the first time the Saint-Denis location had been targeted, Richard Baghdadlian told The Gazette. 'He crawled along the floor, staying below the sensors,' Baghdadlian said. 'The alarm didn't go off until he grabbed the iPad, which was just high enough to trigger it. That's when he bolted.' The break-in took place around 11:15 p.m., with the café's alarm company alerting Baghdadlian. After reviewing camera footage online, he asked police to be dispatched. Officers arrived quickly, he said, and a report was filed. Baghdadlian said he believes the man got in through a locked fence behind the café and used a side window to enter a section of the shop not covered by motion detectors. 'The gentleman who committed the robbery must have cased out the place earlier and saw that there was a small weakness in our alarm system,' he said. Though, he added, he was not sure the suspect, who was unmasked, spotted the shop's camera. The suspect escaped with a small sum of cash, including some tip money, the register float and a large jar of foreign coins. The iPad Mini was also taken. 'These days, most customers tap,' the owner said. 'The float's only about $100 to $200. When I started in the business, it was 60 per cent cash. Now it's 10 or 15 per cent.' Though the loss was relatively minor, Baghdadlian said that he is 'hearing more stories' from other small businesses and cafés falling victim of these types of break-ins and that the frequency is 'growing.' 'It's not just our café that's being targeted, this is across the board,' he said. 'We have six cafés, so naturally the odds are against us that one of them will eventually be hit.' On average, he said, the Myriade locations have been targeted about once every two years. Despite filing a police report, Baghdadlian doesn't expect police to find the suspect, given that only a small amount was taken. However, he decided to share the video on social media in case someone recognizes the man. 'One time, someone even dropped a name,' he recalled. 'You never know what might come of it.' He also hopes the thief might see himself online and think twice. The break-in comes just days after a group of masked individuals set fire to Micro Espresso Café in Old Montreal. That arson attack left the shop destroyed and one suspect hospitalized with burns. 'After what happened to them, I feel like I got off easy,' Baghdadlian said.
