iOS 26 supported devices: Every compatible iPhone model

When Apple announces a software update for any of its devices, some users have to hold their breath. Apple does a fantastic job of supporting hardware for years after release, but sooner or later, time comes for every iPhone. To that point, Apple shared the list of supported devices for iOS 26 at WWDC 2025, and a few older models didn't make the cut. You might recall that last year, Apple didn't cut support for any additional iPhone models. All of the same iPhones that were able to upgrade to iOS 17 could get iOS 18 as well. Unfortunately, that isn't the case this year, as two older models have received their final major updates. If you own an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max, you can't install iOS 26. It was a matter of time before Apple stopped supporting them. The good news is that Apple continues to roll out security updates for older, unsupported models, so even though these phones won't get the latest version of iOS, there will be more updates. Of course, we also know that the next lineup of iPhone models will support iOS 26, but we're a few months away from the next generation. Rumors suggest that Apple is planning to debut the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max this fall. We also wouldn't be surprised to see an iPhone 17e next spring. If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, BGR may receive an affiliate commission. A couple of weeks after seeding the first beta of iOS 26, Apple is ready to move forward with the beta cycle, as the company just released its second testing version. At this moment, it's unclear what's new with this software update. However, developers will likely see a huge improvement over general stability and bug fixes. In addition, Apple will likely keep tweaking the new design and new features. The main change with iOS 26 beta 2 is the Liquid Glass design. The company says it's 'beautiful, delightful, and instantly familiar.' With this revamp, everything looks different, from the Lock Screen to the Home Screen, Control Center, apps, and more. Apple has simplified the navigation by helping users focus on the content, and they can also choose between new light and dark themes, color-tinted icons, and a new clear look. With this upcoming software update, users will be able to manage unwanted calls, use Hold Assist so the iPhone can let you know once a live agent is ready to talk to you, while iMessage users will be able to create polls and customizable backgrounds for the chats. Apple also took the effort to improve Apple Music features, as the company has added new AutoMix, Lyrics Translation, Lyrics Pronunciation, and auto-pin favorite songs functionalities. Also, CarPlay users will get several new features, as the new iOS 26 design is going to take over your infotainment display. Regarding Apple Intelligence features, iOS 26 beta 2 continues to improve the new experiences, including Live Translation, Image Playground, Genmoji, and the new AI-powered Shortcuts app. Beta 2 of iOS 26 is available alongside the second testing versions of iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. Adobe Project Indigo: A free-to-use iPhone app for SLR-style photos

Adobe has launched a new computational photography camera app for iPhones, offering users a powerful tool to capture high-quality, natural-looking photos. The app, named Project Indigo, is free to download and currently available for iPhone 12 Pro models and newer, with Adobe recommending optimal use on an iPhone 15 Pro or later. The app was developed in part by Marc Levoy, a renowned figure in mobile imaging who previously helped transform the Google Pixel camera's capabilities. Now an Adobe Fellow, Levoy worked alongside senior scientist Florian Kainz to build the app under Adobe Labs. The project was announced on Adobe's website through a technical blog. Unlike most Adobe products, Project Indigo does not require users to log into an Adobe account, allowing immediate access to its features. Indigo leverages computational photography to improve image quality by capturing a burst of photos and combining them to produce a final image with enhanced dynamic range and reduced noise. The app aims to deliver a 'natural, SLR-like' aesthetic and includes full manual controls for focus, ISO, shutter speed, and white balance — features aimed at enthusiasts and professionals alike. Adobe Labs releases an experimental digital photography app Project Indigo ( to showcase breakthrough innovations, including reflection removal, which is being published at CVPR this week. Check out this blog: — Adobe Research (@AdobeResearch) June 13, 2025 In the technical blog post, Levoy and Kainz outlined how the app processes images to retain a natural look, explaining key elements of its image pipeline. They noted that Project Indigo is intended as both a standalone tool and a testbed for features that may appear in other Adobe products. Experimental tools under consideration include a reflection removal button, portrait mode enhancements, and eventually, video recording capabilities. 'This is the beginning of a journey for Adobe – towards an integrated mobile camera and editing experience that takes advantage of the latest advances in computational photography and AI,' wrote Levoy and Kainz. The team's vision is to bridge the gap between casual mobile shooters and advanced photographers, offering an app that balances accessibility with powerful photographic control. An Android version is also in development. For now, Project Indigo marks Adobe's most significant foray into mobile camera software, reflecting the growing importance of AI-driven photography tools in both consumer and professional imaging.

Adobe Project Indigo is a new photo app from former Pixel camera engineers

Adobe launched its own take on how smartphone cameras should work this week with Project Indigo, a new iPhone camera app from some of the team behind the Pixel camera. The project combines the computational photography techniques that engineers Marc Levoy and Florian Kainz popularized at Google, with pro controls and new AI-powered features. In their announcement of the new app, Levoy and Kainz style Project Indigo as the better answer to typical smartphone camera complaints of limited controls and over-processing. Rather than using aggressive tone mapping and sharpening, Project Indigo is supposed to use "only mild tone mapping, boosting of color saturation, and sharpening." That's intentionally not the same as the "zero-processing" approach some third-party apps are taking. "Based on our conversations with photographers, what they really want is not zero-process but a more natural look — more like what an SLR might produce," Levoy and Kainz write. The new app also has fully manual controls, "and the highest image quality that computational photography can provide," whether you want a JPEG or a RAW file at the end. Project Indigo achieves that by dramatically under-exposing the shots it combines together, and relying on a larger number of shots to combine — up to 32 frames, according to Levoy and Kainz. The app also includes some of Adobe's more experimental photo features, like "Remove Reflections," which uses AI to eliminate reflections from photos. Levoy left Google in 2020, and joined Adobe a few months later to form a team with the express goal of building a "universal camera app". Based on his LinkedIn, Kainz joined Adobe that same year. At Google, Kainz and Levoy were often credited with popularizing the concept of computational photography, where camera apps rely more on software than hardware to produce quality smartphone photos. Google's success in that arena kicked off a camera arms race that's raised the bar everywhere, but also led to some pretty over-the-top photos. Project Indigo is a bit of a corrective, and also an interesting test whether a third-party app that might produce better photos is enough to beat the default. Project Indigo is available to download for free now, and runs on either the iPhone 12 Pro and up, or the iPhone 14 and up. An Android version of the app is coming at some point in the future. Find hidden discounts with brainy new phone trick that instantly slashes cost of shopping – I've already tried it out

WHO doesn't love a discount? Sadly they're hard to find – but a new iPhone trick has you covered. Apple has just announced a clever upgrade for millions of iPhones that may be able to help you bag a top deal, and I've already seen it in action. 7 Your iPhone has a new feature coming that lets you 'highlight to search' Credit: Apple 7 You'll be able to quickly track down items that you want to buy Credit: Apple 7 Then you can snap up the one with the best price Credit: Apple I took a trip to Apple Park HQ in California this week, where I was able to check out some of the new iPhone upgrades coming in iOS 26 later this year. One of the big changes was an improvement to Visual Intelligence, which is an iPhone feature that 'scans' what you're looking at through the camera. With the new update, you can now 'scan' what you're looking at on screen. That means you can take a screenshot of an object you like the look of, and have it 'scanned' by Apple Intelligence AI tech. HOW NEW VISUAL INTELLIGENCE WORKS Imagine you've seen a lovely lamp in the background of a picture. You can screenshot it, and then use Visual Intelligence by scrubbing your finger over the lamp (or circling it works too, I found). Your iPhone will then surface that exact lamp and/or ones that look exactly like it. It'll list them alongside their prices on Google, Etsy, and other supported shopping apps on your phone. So you can then find the exact type of lamp you're looking for, and nab it from wherever is offering the best price. It won't just work with lamps: you could do this with a pair of trousers, or a drinks coaster, or even a sofa. Apple interview with Greg Joz Joswiak on new artificial intelligence, screening, hold assist, carplay, liquid glass and ios updates And even if you don't want the exact item, you can find similar ones – making it the ultimate "dupe" hunter. I tried it out at Apple HQ and it managed to track down a specific bird feeder almost instantly. And it offered very similar alternatives – all of which were varying in price. It was quick and easy, and took me from seeing the item to finding it on sale in a matter of seconds. 7 7 7 You can imagine this being a godsend for trying to find a nice jacket that you saw a celeb wear, or snapping up a nice bowl that you saw at a hotel on holiday. HOW TO ACCESS VISUAL INTELLIGENCE TODAY So when can you use it? Well Visual Intelligence is already available now, but it's only for telling you about items you've snapped a pic of – like identifying a dog breed, for example. The new screenshot-scanning feature is coming in iOS 26. That's the button on the side of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. If your iPhone doesn't have that, you can instead customise the Action Button or Lock Screen to do Visual Intelligence instead – or you could add it to your Control Centre. That's what you'll need to do if you've got an iPhone 16e, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max. 7 The new Visual Intelligence features are arriving with the upcoming iOS 26 update for iPhones Credit: Apple If you have an older iPhone, this feature won't work – as it relies on Apple Intelligence. Then just snap a pic and you'll be able to get info about what you're seeing. When iOS 26 lands later this year (likely in September), you'll just need to take a screenshot of an image, rub your finger on the item, and then search it using the built-in tool.
