Kejriwal, Sisodia spent beyond limit to buy high-end phones: Sood

New Delhi: Education minister Ashish Sood on Thursday alleged that former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia spent lakhs of rupees on expensive mobile phones during AAP's two terms in office. He alleged that despite Delhi govt's fixed ceiling of Rs 50,000 for CM and Rs 45,000 for other ministers, the then AAP ministers exerted undue pressure on officials to clear bills for high-end phones that exceeded the sanctioned limit. The statement comes days after AAP Delhi convener Saurabh Bharadwaj accused BJP-led Delhi govt of purchasing "luxury phones worth lakhs" for its ministers. According to an internal order, the general administration department recently revised the ceiling, raising it to Rs 1.5 lakh for the chief minister and Rs 1.25 lakh for other ministers. Officials said this was the first revision of the cap since 2013. AAP, however, maintained on Thursday that BJP was spending public's money on luxury phones for CM and ministers. "BJP is using false allegations of corruption as a smokescreen to shut down AAP govt's public welfare policies," it stated. He added that Sisodia bought five phones while in office, one each in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, spending a total of Rs 5.24 lakh. All were high-end models ranging between Rs 81,000 and Rs 1,63,900, though his authorised limit was Rs 45,000 per phone. Sood alleged that former CM Atishi bought a Rs 1.28-lakh phone in May 2023 and split the bill into two parts, Rs 45,000 and Rs 83,000, to bypass detection. Similarly, then minister Bharadwaj's purchase of a Rs 61,000 phone in the same month was not fully reimbursed, he received only Rs 45,000. The minister noted that a govt official handling such purchases even flagged in an internal note that the expenditure on the CM's iPhone was "on the higher side" and questioned whether the necessary relaxation was sought for exceeding the entitlement. Sood acknowledged that mobile phones were essential for public servants, calling them "essentially a mobile office", but stressed that "rules, regulations and laws exist and must not be broken". BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor added that, as per govt rules, the phones for the chief minister and ministers are procured by the general administration department and must be returned after they leave office. "According to available information, most of these phones were not returned," he alleged.

Phone Row In Delhi: BJP Claims Kejriwal, Sisodia Bought High-End Mobiles During AAP's Rule

Last Updated: Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood claimed that AAP leaders purchased multiple mobile phones when the party was in power in the national capital. Another political slugfest broke out in Delhi over the revised phone reimbursement cap for the Chief Minister and Cabinet with BJP alleging former AAP ministers of purchasing expensive mobiles during their rule. Kejriwal Bought Phones Worth Lakhs Of Rupees Delhi Home Minister and senior BJP leader Ashish Sood claimed on Thursday that AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, purchased several top-end mobile phones–amounting to lakhs and exceeding the allocated reimbursement limits — when the party was in power in the national capital. Citing an official circular of 2013, Sood said that the Chief Minister and other ministers of Delhi were entitled to purchase mobile phones worth Rs 50,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively, but the AAP ministers, including Kejriwal, holding the top post from 2015 to 2022, bought four latest iPhone models worth lakhs of rupees, news agency PTI reported. — Ashish Sood (@ashishsood_bjp) July 17, 2025 Showing the documents, the Delhi minister said Kejriwal purchased an iPhone 6s Plus in 2015, costing Rs 81,000, an iPhone 7 Plus worth Rs 69,000 in 2017, an iPhone 12 Pro Max) worth Rs 1.39 lakh during Covid times in 2020 and an iPhone 13 Pro Max, costing Rs 1,63,900, on July 13, 2022. Sood further claimed that similarly Sisodia purchased five expensive phones between 2017 and 2022, including a Samsung Galaxy S8 with accessories for Rs 59,899 bought in 2017, a Samsung S8 for Rs 49,000 in 2018, an iPhone worth Rs 1.12 lakh in 2020, an iPhone 12 Pro Max for Rs 1.66 lakh in 2021 and an iPhone 13 Pro Max for Rs 1.37 lakh in 2022. Atishi, and Saurabh Bhardwaj were also named for buying flagship iPhones, with Sisodia allegedly switching phones almost every year between 2017 and 2022. Sood also claimed that often the mobile phones were purchased by Kejriwal and others and then post-facto approvals were given as those were on the higher side of the stipulated reimbursements. Rekha Gupta Weighs In Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also weighed in the ongoing controversy with a poetic jibe on social media. Taking a dig at AAP leaders, Gupta said that the whole matter will be probed. 'AAP's cap was hiding a whole market — every move filled with scams! They bought costly phones for themselves, now the truth is out so smile! The truth fears no one, and this matter will be investigated," she said in a post on X. The memo now allows–Rs 1.5 lakh for the Chief Minister and Rs 1.25 lakh for ministers. It also states that phones should not be replaced before two years unless repair costs exceed half of the original price. AAP's Allegations Sood's attack on Kejriwal and Sisodia came close on the heels of the AAP slamming the Delhi government over the revised ceiling of mobile-phone reimbursements for the chief minister and other ministers. AAP's Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj took a dig at the city government over the rate revision, saying although the BJP did not fulfil any of its promises made to the people of Delhi, at least the chief minister and other ministers have been benefitted. In a statement, the Kejriwal-led party dismissed Sood's charges, saying the BJP is making "false allegations" of corruption to cover up its "betrayal" of people and as a "smokescreen" to shut down the previous government's public-welfare policies in Delhi. "This is not governance — it is sabotage," the AAP said. "The AAP government fulfilled its promises without ever saying that we lack funds. The BJP refuses to give women the Rs 2,500 monthly support it had guaranteed. Instead, it is spending the public's money on luxury phones for the chief minister and ministers, hiring four data-entry operators for every MLA," the AAP alleged. Row over Delhi CM's phone allowance cap: Kejriwal, Sisodia bought high-end devices during AAP's rule, says minister

The political row over the revised phone reimbursement cap for the Delhi Chief Minister and Cabinet escalated, with the BJP accusing former AAP ministers of purchasing expensive phones, exceeding the allotted amount, during their tenure. This came after AAP Delhi convenor and former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj had attacked the BJP government, saying that it is ignoring the promises made to women during the Assembly elections and giving importance to purchasing expensive gadgets. On July 9, the General Administration Department in Delhi revised the ceiling for purchase of mobile handsets — for the chief minister, the upper limit is Rs 1.50 lakh, while it is Rs 1.25 lakh for the ministers — after 12 years. On Thursday, senior BJP leader and Power Minister Ashish Sood shared phone bills and receipts of mobile phones purchased by former CM Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and other ministers — amounting to lakhs and exceeding the allocated reimbursement limits. Waving some documents, Sood said that as per the 2013 order, the cap for purchasing a phone set for the CM was Rs 50,000 while it was Rs 45,000 for the ministers. He alleged that the then chief ministers Kejriwal, Atishi and ministers Sisodia, Bharadwaj and others violated the rules and purchased high-end mobile phones beyond the permitted limit. He also accused the previous AAP regime of pushing government officials to cover the cost of the mobile phones. Addressing a press conference, Sood said, 'A few days ago, the AAP made a comment questioning the current government over the revision of phone reimbursement cap and asked vikas kiska ho raha?… We are replying to this because it is a question about an institution… These days, mobile phones are not a luxury… All of us work (on our) phones… The CM and ministers receive a lot of complaints through WhatsApp and e-mail…' Taking a dig at the AAP, he claimed, 'I feel that even Atishi and Bharadwaj are tired of their leaders Kejriwal and Sisodia, that is why they are highlighting these issues — so that we can expose their reality before the public.' According to an official document, between 2015 and 2022, Kejriwal bought the iPhone 6s Plus and 7 Plus, and iPhone 12 and 13 Pro Max worth a total of Rs 4,53,800. Sisodia purchased phones worth Rs 5.23 lakh between 2017 and 2022. 'All these exceeded the Rs 50,000 and Rs 45,000 limits… Kejriwal's office even sought post-facto approval for the excessive expenditure, stating in internal notes that the amount spent is on the higher side…,' alleged Sood. He also accused Atishi of buying phones worth lakhs. The minister alleged that Atishi split the bill into two payments — one for Rs 45,000 and the second for Rs 89,000 — to 'avoid scrutiny'. 'Bharadwaj bought an iPhone for Rs 61,000 in 2023 but was reimbursed only Rs 45,000. He assumed his bill would also be passed like those of senior leaders — but that didn't happen,' Sood alleged. On Tuesday, Bharadwaj had alleged, 'The BJP had promised Rs 2,500 per month to lakhs of women starting March 8. Yet not a single rupee has been disbursed. When it comes to buying Rs 1.5 lakh-worth phones and sanctioning unlimited bills for themselves, the BJP acts without delay. But when it comes to women, they hide behind committees.' The phone reimbursement cap has been revised after 12 years, officials had said, adding that the last revision took place in 2013. Earlier, the ceiling was set at around Rs 50,000. 'Though the previous cap was set at Rs 50,000, the CM and ministers in the previous AAP regime have bought expensive iPhones which went above the allocated allowance, touching more than Rs 1 lakh. Viewing the current market price and value of phone sets, the department decided to revise the amount,' a senior officer had said on Tuesday.

Delhi's phone war: BJP alleges AAP leaders bought mobiles with government funds; AAP attacks rise in purchase cap

ANI file photos NEW DELHI: Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday alleged that AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia purchased several top‑of‑the‑line mobile phones on government funds. Citing a 2013 government circular that allows the chief minister and ministers to buy phones worth up to Rs 50,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively, Sood showed documents that suggested Kejriwal bought an iPhone 6s Plus for Rs 81,000 in 2015, an iPhone 7 Plus for Rs 69,000 in 2017, an iPhone 12 Pro Max worth Rs 1.39 lakh during the Covid period in 2020, and an iPhone 13 Pro Max for Rs 1.63 lakh in July 2022. He further said Manish Sisodia had purchased five expensive handsets between 2017 and 2022, including Samsung Galaxy S8 models costing nearly Rs 60,000 and iPhones priced between Rs 1.12 lakh and Rs 1.66 lakh. Former minister Atishi too allegedly bought a phone for Rs 1.27 lakh in 2023, though the entitled reimbursement was only Rs 45,000. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta also weighed in with a poetic jibe on social media. She wrote, 'AAP's cap was hiding a whole market — every move filled with scams! They bought costly phones for themselves, now the truth is out so smile! The truth fears no one, and this matter will be investigated.' The Aam Aadmi Party rebutted the allegations by Sood, calling them "false" and a 'political sabotage' aimed at derailing the previous government's welfare initiatives. AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj pointed out that the BJP had failed on its promises to the people of Delhi and was now targeting opposition leaders with 'smokescreen' charges.

Apple Just Added One Of The Best-Selling iPhones To Its Vintage List

iPhone 6s is now a vintage Apple product Apple / Prakhar Khanna Apple has updated its vintage product list by adding the iPhone 6s and the 2018 Mac mini. For context, Apple considers products 'vintage' five years after they are no longer distributed for sale. These products will now receive limited service and repairs worldwide. The iPhone 6s was launched alongside the iPhone 6s Plus in 2015, but Apple continued selling the base model as an affordable option until 2018. While the iPhone 6s Plus was added to Apple's vintage list late last year, the standard model is only now joining its larger sibling (via MacRumors). The current list of vintage iPhones includes: iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st gen), iPhone 8 Red, iPhone 8 Plus Red, iPhone X, and iPhone XS Max. The iPhone 6s was one of the best-selling smartphones in the world. According to reports ahead of the iPhone 7 launch, the iPhone 6s shipped 14.2 million units and accounted for 4% of all smartphones shipped globally in Q2 2016. It was reportedly the most popular smartphone in the world at the time, followed by the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The iPhone 6s was the first Apple smartphone to feature 3D Touch—a feature that, in my opinion, deserves a comeback. It was also the last flagship iPhone to include a headphone jack, as Apple removed the 3.5mm port with the iPhone 7. The iPhone 6s was powered by the A9 chip and fixed iPhone 6's 'bendgate' flaw with a reinforced aluminum chassis. As for the 2018 Mac mini, it was the last Mac mini to feature Intel chips. As a result, all Intel-based Mac minis are now considered either vintage or obsolete. The 2018 model housed Intel's Coffee Lake processors, offering 4-core and 6-core configurations with Intel UHD Graphics 630. If you're still holding on to one of these products, be aware that Apple no longer guarantees the availability of parts for repairs. They'll move to the obsolete category at the seven-year mark (from the last availability date), after which Apple Stores will stop offering repairs for the iPhone 6s and the 2018 Mac mini altogether.
