‘Joota se maarunga': In viral audio clip, it's Bihar MLA vs panchayat secretary

'I'll beat you with a shoe… Don't you know the MLA of your area ('Joota se maarunga, kheench ke'),' a person who identifies himself as Bhai Virendra, an RJD MLA in Bihar, can be heard telling a panchayat secretary over a phone call. Confrontation begins as the secretary fails to recognise the person at the other end of the call. (Image: Unsplash) The secretary, with his curt replies, proves to be spunkier than the 'sachiv' character from the viral hit series 'Panchayat'. A clip of the undated conversation is thus viral across social media platforms. HT has not independently verified it. 'Don't you know Bhai Virendra?' The confrontation begins as the secretary fails to recognise the person at the other end of the call. 'I will beat you with a shoe... Don't you know Bhai Virendra?' says the person, apparently the MLA Bhai Virendra of the RJD himself. "You want me to introduce myself? The whole country knows me," he says. 'When you introduce yourself, then only would I recognise you,' the secretary, whose name and posting station are not revealed, replies. 'I am the MLA of Maner. Don't you know?' says the person identifying as Virendra, 'Have you come from England?' When the secretary tells him to 'please, speak', he gets angrier: 'I will hit you with my shoe... You don't follow protocol!' He then asks the secretary to hasten the issuance of a certificate for one of his constituents: 'The application was sent long ago… Don't be too clever.' The secretary replies: 'If you talk to me with respect, I will also talk to you with respect. Nothing will get done by threats.' Bhai Virendra purportedly says further, 'When you don't know the MLA of your area, then you don't have the right to work.' The secretary shoots back: 'You give it in writing. I am ready for a transfer.' The MLA, as per the viral clip, tells him that 'many other things will happen; transfer is a small thing'. The secretary tell him not to issues threats: 'Your work is in process. When it is done, you will get the information.' This is where the clip ends. So far, Bhai Virendra has not responded.

Scottish cycling sensation, 22, stuns the world's top cyclists as he eyes Scotland's best EVER Tour de France finish

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SCOTTISH cycling sensation Oscar Onley remains on course to equal Scotland's best EVER Tour de France finish after a gruelling stage to Mont Ventoux. Onley may have been born in London but he was raised from a young age in the town of Kelso, identifies as Scottish and came through the Scottish system. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Oscar Onley (right) tracks Florian Lipowitz of Germany Credit: Getty 2 Oscar Onley of Team Picnic PostNL before the 16th stage of the Tour de France Credit: EPA A natural climber, he finished a creditable 39th as he was selected for his first Tour de France 12 months ago. And he's still sitting in a remarkable FOURTH spot in the toughest bike race in the world with just FIVE stages to withstand after one of the toughest climbs in cycling. He came in 14th on the sheer slopes of Ventoux, some 2 minutes 29 back on stage winner Valentin Paret Peintre. But that was still enough for him to limit his losses on former yellow jersey winner Primoz Roglic in fifth spot to just 38 seconds. And that means he survives in fourth with just four days and then the traditional procession to the Champs Elysees in Paris on the final day to come. No Scottish rider has ever secured a podium spot for one of the 1-2-3 in the General Classification on the Tour. Robert Millar, now known as Philippa York, finished fourth back in 1984, in addition to picking up the polka dot jersey for the top mountain climber on the tour that year. Onley is 11 minutes and four seconds behind imperious Slovenian leader Tadej Pogacar, who looks set to claim a FOURTH yellow jersey. But with a couple of big days in the Alps still to come he's still got hope of finding the two minutes he needs to overtake Germany's Florian Lipowitz to get third. He's also chasing Lipowitz in the race for the white jersey, the privilege of the best young rider in the race. Mark Cavendish & The Royals help celebrate Edinburgh hosting the Tour de France in 2027 Amazingly Onley actually could have had a career as an elite cross-country runner instead and only started riding a bike after being inspired to start cycling by the fact that the time-trial route for his local club, Kelso Wheelers, went right past his house. He raced in Europe as a junior before joining the development team of his current squad, Picnic PostNL, in 2021. The Tour de France is coming to Edinburgh in 2027 and he's previously spoken of his delight and hope to be on the start line. He said: 'The Tour de France coming to Scotland is really exciting and can have a huge impact on inspiring people to get on bikes and potentially start a new wave of talent coming out of Scotland. "Scotland has hosted the Tour of Britain a few times over the past years and always puts on a good show, Le Tour offers a great opportunity to showcase the country on a bigger scale." KP unveils first-ever Forest Carbon Credit Mapping Report

PESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unveiled the province's first-ever Forest Carbon Credit Mapping Report. The report, developed with the support of the SEED programme, identifies ten potential forest-based carbon credit projects across 2.2 million hectares of land in the province. Collectively, these projects have the potential to sequester over 400 million tons of carbon, with an estimated revenue generation of four billion dollars and the creation of 50,000 green jobs. Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur termed the launch of the Forest Carbon Credit Mapping as historic milestone for the forestry sector in the province. He extended appreciations to the Forest Department and partner institutions for this remarkable achievement. He emphasized that the mapping initiative lays the foundation for the province's participation in international carbon credit markets and opens new avenues for accessing innovative green financial resources. The Chief Minister noted that this mapping effort represents a comprehensive model for environmental, economic, and social development in the province. He further stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has been blessed with natural resources, and forests are one of its most vital assets, now recognized globally as an industry. He said, unfortunately serious efforts were not made in the past to harness these invaluable resources. However, during the previous years under the PTI government, significant progress has been made in the forestry sector, as per the vision of the party's patron in chief, Imran Khan. The Chief Minister noted that the global community has acknowledged and appreciated the achievements made under Imran Khan's vision for forest development and environmental sustainability. Highlighting the province's existing forest potential, the Chief Minister shared that there has been a six percent increase in forest cover over the last decade. Currently, forests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa account for 46 percent of the country's total forest area and have the capacity to sequester 50 percent of the national carbon stock. He added that the province is projected to earn up to 100 million dollars annually through carbon credits. The government is committed to utilizing the province's forestry resources for economic stability and the well-being of its people. Serious steps are being taken to fully capitalize on the province's carbon credit potential. Ali Amin Khan Gandapur also mentioned that the provincial government is actively working to increase its carbon credit stock by reducing industrial and environmental pollution. There are vast opportunities to further expand forest areas across the province, and the government is making continuous efforts toward this goal. He emphasized that government's efforts alone cannot yield desired results without active public participation. He called upon the citizens to play their part in promoting and protecting forests. Appealing to the public, the Chief Minister urged people to plant as many trees as possible, especially on unused lands and around their homes. He concluded by saying that with collective efforts, the dream of a 'Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa' can become a reality. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

CCTV Boost in Northland: Business associations collaborate to put more eyes in the sky

'One of the top issues that came up in these conversations was crime and how CCTV is a way to help prevent crime and support community safety.' Curtis said feedback had shown that offenders often target more than one town, particularly because of the interconnected roads. Therefore, she said, having a system that worked for all the towns made sense. The project aims to deliver a comprehensive plan which maps existing infrastructure, identifies gaps and outlines a unified strategy for long-term safety. Curtis said there are hopes it will improve economic resilience for Mid and Far North businesses. Over the next three months a gap-analysis project will be undertaken. The project will consider existing networks and monitoring, assess police ability to access and use information, assess police requirements and consider links to existing security, suppliers and more. It would also scope the development of a centralised monitoring centre and ask the community for existing and proposed CCTV camera sites to join the network. 'We really hope that by the wider Far and Mid North business associations uniting together, it shows CCTV is something that is important for everyone in the region, not just the businesses,' Curtis said. The completed analysis would then support their application for the Proceeds of Crime Fund in October. The government fund was designed to help provide targeted interventions to reduce violent crime. It distributes assets seized by police for crime-prevention projects countrywide. Applicants must prove that the initiative aligns with the criteria for reducing violent crime to be eligible for funding. Far and Mid-North business associations hope their analysis will prove the need for a sustainable approach to CCTV and community safety across the region. Photo / NZME Northland has benefited from the Proceeds of Crime Fund with new cameras in the Whangārei CBD, Te Kamo and Hikurangi in 2023 estimated to cost $765,000. At the time, it was hoped that more eyes in the sky would deter would-be criminals. However, NorthChamber president Tim Robinson at the time said requests for footage from police after reported incidents sometimes went unanswered because of a lack of resources. Meanwhile in Paihia, a state-of-the-art system was proven worthwhile in 2022, within months after a man accused of robbing a local was arrested thanks to high-quality CCTV footage and police searches. That system was also covered by the Proceeds of Crime Fund for $120,000. At the time, a Focus Paihia member called for more co-ordination between the region's public CCTV systems. MIT Sloan Management Review and TCS Study Reveals the Changing Role of AI in Decision-Making

The future of strategy isn't AI — it's the architecture of choice New MIT SMR and Tata Consultancy Services study urges leaders to treat decision-making as a system to be designed, not a skill to be exercised CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and MUMBAI, India, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow's most successful companies won't just use artificial intelligence to analyze data — they will use it to rethink, redesign, and rearchitect better decisions. A new report by MIT Sloan Management Review (MIT SMR) in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, reveals how leading organizations are deploying intelligent choice architectures (ICAs) to gain a competitive edge from better decisions. These AI-empowered systems strike a novel balance between automating processes and augmenting human insight. ICAs actively generate new strategic options, learn from results, and reshape the landscape of possibilities that executives consider. Rather than simply supporting human judgment, ICAs fundamentally transform how decisions get made. Humans and machines can and should work better together. "Winning With Intelligent Choice Architectures" details that competitive advantage now flows not from better human judgment alone but from building superior systems that expand, refine, and optimize the choices humans ultimately make. The year-long research into ICAs that was conceptualized and executed jointly by MIT SMR and TCS drew insights from business leaders and top executives across six major industries. These included experts and pioneers from Mayo Clinic, Sanofi, Cummins, Walmart, Meta, Mastercard, and Pernod Ricard. The research identifies a critical shift: AI is moving from adviser to architect. Companies that master this transition are pulling ahead of those still trapped in traditional decision-making frameworks. "ICAs flip the script," said Michael Schrage, MIT Sloan IDE research fellow and report coauthor. "They do not just learn from decisions — they learn how to improve the environment in which decisions are made. That's not analytics, that's architecture." Organizations embracing ICAs do not just automate decisions; they design how they govern decision environments. The result? Decisions become faster, smarter, more accessible, and more accountable. Both human and machine agency are clearly defined, auditable, and aligned with purpose. "This isn't AI as copilot," said David Kiron, editorial director, research, of MIT Sloan Management Review. "This is AI and humans working together as architects to redesign how people perceive, weigh, and act on choices." The ICA ImperativeThe report outlines how enterprises in financial services, health care, manufacturing, and logistics are prototyping ICAs that extend decision literacy and shift executive roles from arbiters of choices to curators of choice ecosystems. It warns that success depends less on AI capability and more on organizational readiness, urging companies to reflect on questions like: Does the company treat decision-making as a designable process? Do leaders know what choices they're not seeing? Are governance and incentives aligned to optimize option quality, not just decision speed? Ashok Krish, head, AI Practice, TCS, said, "By augmenting human judgment with machine intelligence, ICAs shift AI from task automation to building superior decision environments. They enable more trackable, traceable outcomes that ensure accountability for complex situations with multiple decision-making factors. They help align talent development strategies with organizational goals, making it easier to identify and nurture high-potential employees in the AI era. Ultimately, ICAs foster environments where human choices and AI work together seamlessly to create connected organization intelligence, where decisions are smarter and more informed." Decision Rights Are Now a Design ProblemBased on these research findings, the authors warn that if leaders do not explicitly assign decision rights in ICA-enabled systems, those systems will assume them. Machine learning models will set priorities, trade-offs, and defaults — often without visibility, oversight, or accountability. Sankaranarayanan Viswanathan, VP and head of business innovation, Corporate Technology Office, TCS, said, "The real challenge for enterprises isn't just making better decisions — it is recognizing that decisions are merely the outcome of the choices they privilege or overlook. What we need are systems that foster intelligent choice architectures — enabling the organization to see, understand, and act with awareness. Accountable AI demands clarity not only in outcomes but in the choices considered, the priorities weighed, and the trade-offs accepted. Without this, intelligent systems will silently assume decision-making authority — often without oversight or recourse." Strategic TakeawayICAs signal a profound shift: The future of competitive advantage lies not in better decisions but in better-designed decision environments. This redefines leadership, not as simply making the call but as architecting the arena in which better calls can be made. ICAs are not the next stage of automation; they represent the future of choice itself. They reframe choice-making as a design problem: structuring, surfacing, and expanding meta choices that influence outcomes before options are consciously considered. Download the publication here.
