Impaired driving charges laid after fatal crash on Anthony Henday Drive
A 23-year-old man is dead after an early morning fatal collision involving an impaired driver on Edmonton's Anthony Henday Drive Saturday. In a news release, Edmonton police said they received a call at 1:30 a.m. about a single vehicle collision on the southbound portion of Anthony Henday Drive near the Highway 14 overpass, in the city's southeast. Police said a Chevrolet Cruze struck a light standard and caught fire. Witnesses pulled the driver, a 23-year-old man, from the burning car and attempted lifesaving measures but the man died on scene. It was then reported to police that a second vehicle, a Chevrolet Cavalier, was the cause of the crash and was last seen travelling north in the southbound lanes of the Henday. Officers with Strathcona County RCMP later intercepted the vehicle driving north in the southbound lane near the Sherwood Park Freeway. A 23-year-old woman, who police did not identify, was arrested and is charged with dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving. The EPS major collisions investigations section (MCIS) is investigating the crash. Police are asking anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area to contact police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Suspected impaired driver crashes in Brooklyn Park, flees on foot during police chase
Police in a northern Twin Cities suburb say a potentially impaired driver evaded law enforcement after crashing during a pursuit early Sunday. The Brooklyn Park Police Department says it was requested to help the Minnesota State Patrol as the chase entered city limits shortly after 3 a.m. Authorities believed the suspect was impaired, and said he was driving erratically and posing a public safety risk. While Brooklyn Park officers were on the way, the suspect crashed at the intersection of County Road 81 and West Broadway Avenue, according to police. Law enforcement searched the area after the suspect fled the scene of the crash on foot, but they were unsuccessful in finding them.

Woman found unconscious on LaSalle street dies of her injuries
A woman found unconscious on a LaSalle street early Sunday has died, as Montreal police investigate the role a suspected impaired driver may have played. A 37-year-old woman who was found unconscious and critically injured on a street in Montreal's LaSalle borough early Sunday has died of her injuries. Emergency services were called to Clément Street near Saint-Patrick Street around 1:15 a.m. after a 911 call. The woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries. 'A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene for driving while impaired by alcohol,' said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin. 'He was taken to a detention centre.' It remains unclear whether the woman was struck by the vehicle. 'Several scenarios are being looked at by investigators,' said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. 'Was she hit by the vehicle? Was she in the vehicle before? Did she fall or jump from the vehicle while it was moving?' Brabant said what is certain is that the vehicle was involved in some way. SPVM collision reconstruction experts and vehicle inspectors are working to clarify the circumstances, and officers were expected to canvass the neighbourhood for information. 'It was dark around 1:15 a.m. and there weren't many witnesses,' Brabant said. 'We'll try to get more information from surveillance footage and by going door to door in the nearby apartment buildings.' A security perimeter was established to allow investigators to examine the scene. The SPVM investigation is ongoing. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Aug. 3, 2025.

Video shows driver travelling on rims while fleeing officers in York Region
Police say that the suspect refused to pull over for officers even after all four of their vehicle's tires were burst by a deflation device. Loading the player instance is taking more time than usual Loading the player instance is taking more time than usual New aerial footage released by York Regional Police shows the pursuit and takedown of a suspected impaired driver who allegedly refused to pull over for officers, even after their tires were punctured by a deflation device. On July 10, police officers noticed a red Nissan Qashqai travelling at a high speed in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Riverglen Drive, in the town of Georgina. In released footage, the vehicle is seen driving in the opposite direction of traffic. When officers turned around to try and conduct a traffic stop, the suspect allegedly sped off at a high rate of speed. On July 17, the same vehicle was spotted at Woodbine Avenue and Boyers Road and authorities recognized it from the earlier incident on July 10, police say. The York Regional Police Air Support Unit was dispatched and helped follow the vehicle as it fled southbound on Highway 404 and exited at Highway 7 in the City of Richmond Hill. In the aerial footage, the suspect is seen running several red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road. Police said that officers used a tire deflation device but the suspect continued travelling on all four rims into Aurora. In the footage released by police, the vehicle can be seen slowly driving in the wrong direction after its tires had been punctured. 'Get ready for a bailout,' one officer is heard saying to the officers on the ground. Moments later, police are seen boxing in the vehicle against a guardrail and taking the driver into custody. Police said in a news release that 'in the interest of public safety, officers made intentional contact to stop the vehicle.' Dakota Drury, 21, of North Bay, is now facing 15 charges, including a firearms-related offence and a charge for operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs.
