At about 7:30 p.m. on July 18, officers on patrol in the 100 block of Wellington Street West noticed a vehicle stopped on Brown Street with the driver asleep inside. Upon approaching, police observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who showed signs of impairment. (File photo/GettyImages/urbazon) 'A search of the vehicle located a small quantity of suspected cocaine,' said the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in a news release Monday. The accused was transported to the Police Services Building on Second Line East, where a Drug Recognition Expert confirmed the motorist was impaired by drugs. The man was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of impaired driving. In addition to the charges, under provincial legislation, the driver also received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense. He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22, 2025.

Members of Ontario Provincial Police's Manitoulin detachment conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check at the intersection of Highway 6 and Old Webbwood Road. A vehicle came through the check area at about 11 p.m. on July 19, police said in a news release. Officers initiated an investigation after a vehicle passed through the checkpoint, leading to multiple charges for the driver. The accused has been charged with two counts of drug possession, operation while prohibited and impaired driving along with a charge for driving with open alcohol in the vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court in Espanola on Sept. 22. This incident marks the 96th impaired driving arrest handled by the Manitoulin OPP so far this year. In addition to the charges, under provincial legislation, the motorist also received 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense. Police in western Quebec say a 34-year-old woman who was pulled over on suspicion of impaired driving had two infants in the car. MRC des Collines de l'Outaouais police said in a news release that officers saw a someone driving erratically in the L'Ange-Gardien area Sunday evening. When the driver was pulled over, police said she registered double the legal alcohol limit on a breath test. Her partner, who does not have a driver's licence, was in the car and was even more intoxicated, according to police. Two babies, aged five months and 17 months, were also in the car. The woman received an automatic roadside licence suspension of 90 days, police said, and her vehicle has been impounded for 30 days. She is due in court to face charges. The father and the two children were taken to a friend's home to rest.

The incident occurred on July 8 at about 10 p.m., when officers were called after a driver allegedly honked, yelled and drove dangerously near a horseback rider. The same driver then directed aggressive behaviour toward another vehicle attempting to assist. Authorities said they located the motorists a short time later and began an investigation. As a result, the accused has been charged with operation while impaired and is scheduled to appear in court in Espanola on Sept. 22. In addition to the charges, under provincial legislation, the motorist also received 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense. Police appeal for safety on the roads In a news release Monday, OPP emphasized that roads are shared spaces, urging drivers to exercise caution around horseback riders by slowing down, avoiding sudden noises and passing only when safe. 'If you witness dangerous driving behaviour, do not hesitate to call 911. Your call could save someone's life,' said OPP Const. Berkley Parisien, in a social media post detailing the incident. Man charged for driving impaired, street racing on Hwy. 417 in Ottawa

An Ottawa driver was charged with multiple offences after losing control of his vehicle on Highway 417 over the weekend. (OPP/X) Ontario Provincial Police laid multiple charges against a 28-year-old man for allegedly racing and driving impaired on Highway 417 in Ottawa over the weekend. Police say officers were called about a crash on the highway near Innes Road shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses told police they had seen the driver racing another vehicle when he lost control of his car from failing to make the curve at the Highway 174 and 417 split, OPP said in a news release Monday. The driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Police say he had been allegedly consuming alcohol and registered more than twice the legal drinking limit. Officers allegedly also found alcohol and cannabis inside the vehicle. The man was arrested on two charges related to impaired driving, dangerous operation, racing and failing to properly wear a seatbelt. He had his driver's licence suspended for 90-days and received an automatic 30-day driving suspension. He is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa at a later date.
