Sickening secret of truck driver, 25, who killed 7 in fiery crash at Yellowstone National Park

The driver involved in a fiery crash that killed seven people near Yellowstone National Park had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit, authorities have revealed. Isaiah Moreno, 25, of Humble, Texas, was behind the wheel of the Dodge Ram pickup that collided with a tour van on Highway 20, resulting in the deaths of himself and six other tourists. 'This tragedy should be a wake-up call,' Police Capt. Chris Weadick said in a statement. 'No one plans to cause a crash or take a life when they get behind the wheel, but choices have consequences.' Idaho State Police revealed that Moreno had a blood alcohol content of .20 when he swerved across the center line of the highway and crashed into the Mercedes van at 7.15pm on May 1. 'Impaired driving isn't just illegal - it's deadly. If you see someone unfit to drive, speak up. Lives depend on it,' Weadick added. Both vehicles caught on fire, and Moreno and six people from China, Italy and California were killed. The remaining eight passengers of the van were taken to hospital with injuries after two passing travelers bravely helped pull them from the wreck before it burst into flames. One traveler, 60-year-old Roger Merrill, filmed the scene and recalled to Associated Press the horror he witnessed. Moreno had a blood alcohol content of .20 when he swerved across the center line of the highway and crashed into the Mercedes van at 7.15pm on May 1 He said he often saw tourist vans travel on the roadway toward Yellowstone National Park and described it as 'a very dangerous highway because it leads to the main entrance.' 'It's extremely busy,' Merrill said, and worried that emergency services would have a harder time accessing the remote location of the crash. 'It took an unnervingly long time for help to arrive just because of the location,' he added. Video footage from Merrill showed the roaring flames engulfing the vehicles as smoke billowed into the sky. Following the collision, two people were seen pulling 'as many as they could' from the wreck of the tour van and successfully rescued eight people, including a child. Fremont County Coroner Brenda Dye told the New York Times that the group in the van had been visiting Yellowstone National Park. The victims in the tour van were named as van driver Yu Zhang, 30, of Eastvale, California; Ivana Wen, 28, of Milan, Italy; Jianping Li, 71, of Guangxi, China; Xiaoming Jiang, 66, of Guilin, China; Li Nie, 64, of Arcadia, California; and Aifeng Wan, 53, also of Arcadia, California, Fox News reported.

1 dead after impaired driving suspect on I-77 in Mooresville crashes into a tree

A passenger died along Interstate 77 in Mooresville Friday night after a driver suspected of speeding and being impaired crashed into a tree, State Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Casey said. Timmy Hillard Hartsoe Jr., 43, of Conover, died at a hospital, Casey said in a news release. Hartsoe was in a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck whose driver lost control about 8:20 p.m. on I-77 South near mile marker 39, the trooper said. That's north of N.C. 150 Exit 36. The driver, 39-year-old Floyd Dale Davis II of Newton, veered off the right side of the highway and hit a tree on the passenger side of his truck, Casey said. Davis was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, the trooper said. Charges are pending, Casey said. The Highway Patrol has to finish its investigation and discuss charges in consultation with Iredell County prosecutors, he said. The wreck closed I-77 South for about two hours as troopers investigated.

‘It's alarming': 19 impaired drivers stopped in Abbotsford Friday night

Police highlighted a "particularly concerning" recent incident that wasn't part of Friday night's total, in which a 40-year-old woman was driving impaired on her way to pick up her child from school. (@AbbyPoliceDept / Police in Abbotsford say they stopped more than a dozen impaired drivers in the city Friday night. The Abbotsford Police Department said on social media Saturday that its Traffic Enforcement Unit and patrol officers had taken 19 impaired drivers off the streets in a single evening. 'It's alarming how many individuals continue to drive under the influence, despite the ease of finding a safe ride home,' police said in their post. They also highlighted a 'particularly concerning' recent incident that wasn't part of Friday night's total. On Thursday afternoon, a 40-year-old woman was arrested for impaired driving after crashing into a tree and getting stuck on a concrete median. 'She was found to be over three times the legal alcohol limit – and was on her way to pick up her child from school,' police said. Abbotsford police have been dealing with a surge in impaired driving this year. At the beginning of April, the department said traffic stops for alcohol and drug impairment had risen by 74 per cent in comparison to the same period last year. While some of that increase is due to more robust enforcement on the part of police, there also appears to be 'a significant rise' in impairment overall, said Sgt. Paul Walker, at the time. To raise public awareness, the APD has partnered with ICBC and Mothers Against Drunk Driving on a signage campaign to highlight the locations where officers have nabbed impaired drivers on a weekly basis. The bright red signs read 'Impaired driver caught here,' and include a prompt for witnesses to call 911. With files from CTV News Vancouver's Andrew Weichel
