World's largest inflatable rubber duck leaving Myrtle Beach early after weather-related malady
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Mama Duck has flown the coop.
The world's largest inflatable rubber duck — slated to stay in Myrtle Beach though Sunday as part of National Water Safety Month — suffered a weather-related mishap due to high winds that forced her early migration back home.
Officials said high winds caused a tear, leading to her deflation a day early.
For the two days, the 60-foot-tall Mama Duck loomed over Ocean Boulevard, giving hundreds an opportunity to learn about the importance of water safety in a partnership between the city, YMCA of Coastal Carolina and Visit Myrtle Beach.
Through the Splash Safe videos and swimming lessons, the initiative will continue to work to prevent water-related injuries or tragedies.
Organizers said Mama Duck will once again take Myrtle Beach under its wing with a return trip to the area.
