Seahawks followed both their interceptions with unsportsmanlike celebration penalties

The Seahawks intercepted two passes in Thursday night's preseason game against the Raiders. And they followed both interceptions with unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The interceptions were by Josh Jobe and Nehemiah Pritchett, but the penalties weren't on them. They were on the veterans on the Seahawks' defense who weren't even in the game but ran onto the field to celebrate. After the game, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said he's glad the veterans were cheering on the players who were on the field, but he needs to emphasize that it can't happen in the regular season. "We really can't afford to be doing that moving forward. But having the enthusiasm, having the guys being fired up for guys making plays, that was pretty cool," Macdonald said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN. Both interceptions were thrown by Raiders backup quarterback Aidan O'Connell, who played most of the game after a brief appearance by starter Geno Smith.

Josh Jobe and Nehemiah Pritchett both snag interceptions in first half

The Seattle Seahawks' defense was eager to show off for the 12th Man in their preseason debut at Lumen Field. Playing host to the visiting Las Vegas Raiders - led by former head coach Pete Carroll - the Seahawks were jumping at the bit for big plays... literally. On the Raiders' third possession of the game, quarterback Aiden O'Connell found out the hard way why cornerback Josh Jobe was the first player to intercept 2024 league MVP Josh Allen last season. Not to be outdone, second year cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett snagged one himself from O'Connell later in the second quarter. The Seahawks capitalized on Pritchett's interception and managed to turn it into three points from a successful Jason Myers field goal attempt. Seattle was able to build a 16-3 lead at halftime as a result. Many have written this offseason, including yours truly, that cornerback depth is an underrated issue for Seattle's defense. Well, with how these two are playing against the Raiders, they are doing their best to make the argument that the depth. Better practices show Bears QB Caleb Williams has gained confidence in new offense

Quarterback Caleb Williams' confidence has hit a new high in the Chicago Bears offense, while the number of interceptions he is throwing in practice is declining. Williams has practiced for a week in new coach Ben Johnson's offense, and after struggling initially with turnovers, the second-year quarterback seems to have stabilized within the attack. 'I think as of right now, I think I'm rolling,' Williams said. 'I'm pretty smooth with it as of right now. It's not perfect,' as the offense continued Wednesday at practice to have difficulty getting into the end zone from within the red zone. Still, it does look more consistent, and Williams is finding more of his playmakers on time. 'It comes down to just a little bit more studying, it comes down to a little bit more practicing, a lot more reps and things like that over time,' Williams said. 'So I think that's where it is. I think that's where it is right now. We're going to keep progressing, and I'm going to keep progressing and getting after it.' Initially, Williams' troubles were in simple things such as pre-snap procedure or even getting the snap from center. The snaps were understandable because the Bears took most of their snaps in shotgun formation under former coach Matt Eberflus and his two offensive coordinators last season. Now, Williams is under center extensively for the first time in his career, going back through college. 'I think right now I'm doing well with the process, whether that's before the snap, whether it's after the snap, whether it's footwork, all these different things,' Williams said. 'Protecting the football these last couple of practices has been key and important. It's important in any season, in any moment.' Johnson confirms Williams' advancement, even if he is hollering at times and actually pulled the offense back off the field on Day 1. 'I see growth. He is so much more comfortable right now,' Johnson said of Williams. 'Even (Monday) the walkthrough… just in terms of moving around. We go from gun to under (center), to the tight ends are moving, the receivers are moving; we're adding a few more every single day. His process, and I told him this on the player day off, his process is really clean right now. I'm talking about how he's preparing. I'm really pleased with it. He's doing the work behind the scenes that no one else is seeing, and we're starting to see the dividends being paid from it.' It helps having all of his playmakers available. Throughout OTAs and even the start of training camp, they were getting little participation from rookie first-round tight end Colston Loveland because of his postseason shoulder surgery. Second-round wide receiver Luther Burden III did not practice from early May through the first week of training camp because of a soft tissue injury. Both are back and catching passes now during practice. Loveland has formed a quick connection. 'He's been great,' Williams. 'He's a smart cat. We've hung out a few times. Actually, him and a couple other teammates, we went down to the city on our off day and had dinner. We're hanging out, building that bond, building that trust. On the field-wise, he's smart, he knows what he's doing, he's a young cat, so there are going to be a few mistakes, maybe hand placement. But when the ball goes up, I got all faith in him.' Burden had a rocky start. He got pulled off the field once for lining up wrong, the product of so much time away from practices. 'It shows up already,' Johnson said. 'We were in the walkthrough yesterday afternoon, and the misalignments we had to re-huddle. We had to start it all over again. He's a little bit behind right now.' Burden made up for it on Wednesday with a catch in traffic and a touchdown in red zone work. Johnson didn't lay all of the earlier problems on Williams or receivers. Their rebuilt offensive line has had to work to keep up with coordinator Dennis Allen's defense. 'We need to do a better job giving our quarterbacks a clean pocket,' Johnson said. 'We're having to work the scramble drill a little bit more than we would like.'

2025 NFL Odds: Which QB Will Lead NFL In Interceptions?

A quarterback's worst nightmare often comes in the form of a pass caught by the other team. Last NFL season, Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield led the NFL with 16 of those nightmares. Which QB will lead the league in interceptions this upcoming season? Let's see the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 21. Most regular-season interceptions thrown Sam Darnold: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Matt Stafford: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)J.J. McCarthy: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Cam Ward: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Baker Mayfield: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Trevor Lawrence: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Michael Penix Jr.: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Jordan Love: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Drake Maye: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Dak Prescott: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Brock Purdy: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total) The five quarterbacks tied atop the oddsboard are each at different phases of their careers. Sam Darnold had the best season of his career last year in Minnesota, throwing for 35 touchdowns and 12 picks. However, his Vikings flamed out in a 27-9 loss to Matt Stafford's Rams in the wild-card round, and Darnold is now the starter in Seattle, his fifth team in eight seasons. Stafford is a Super Bowl-winning QB entering his 17th season after throwing for 20 TDs and eight picks last season. Only four times in his career has he thrown fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season, and the previous three occasions took place in seasons when he played fewer than 10 games. J.J. McCarthy is the QB that will replace Darnold in Minnesota after missing his rookie season due to a torn meniscus. During his final season at Michigan, he threw for 22 TDs and four picks. Cam Ward was the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and will take over the quarterback reins in Tennessee. In his final season at Miami (FL), he threw 39 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. The last rookie and No. 1 pick to lead the league in picks was Trevor Lawrence in 2021 (17). As for Mayfield, as a starter, he's been somewhat of a turnover machine during his career. In seven professional seasons, he's thrown at least 10 interceptions five times. And in one of the seasons when he didn't reach 10 picks, he only started 10 games for two teams, amassing eight picks. Mayfield has thrown 26 interceptions over the past two seasons. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? CFL's reigning defensive MVP ready to make his mark again this year

Social Sharing It's going to be tough for Rolan Milligan Jr. to improve on last season's body of work, which included being named the CFL's most outstanding defensive player. The Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back led the team with eight interceptions and made 71 tackles in 2024. But Milligan, who's entering his fifth year with the Riders, says there is always room for improvement. "My blitzing wasn't great last year," Milligan said. "I missed a lot of sacks when I had opportunities to make them. I dropped a few interceptions that I should have had, so I could be better there." Milligan said he wants to make sure to take every opportunity that comes his way, whether that's a tackle, sack, knockdown or interception. "Last year I told coach [Joshua] Bell I ended up missing probably three or four [interceptions]," he said. "I want to get at least 10 interceptions this year, personally. And then as a group trying to get first place in the west, get the home bye and win the Grey Cup." The 30-year-old from Lake Wales, Fla., said he has been taking more of a leadership role this year in training camp. "I'm trying to trying to be a better leader. You know, it's still kind of new to me as far as leading the room," he said. "I'm just trying to nitpick and make sure I'm doing what I can to help our group and then, overall, help the team be better." Why Roughriders receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker says he's the best in the biz 5 days ago Duration 4:06 Kian Schaffer-Baker is one of the most popular football players in Saskatchewan. He's also building invaluable personal relationships off the field. He said the club is ahead of where it was at this time last year. "Coming into camp we're not starting from Square 1. So we're implementing different techniques, different coverages that we started doing later in the season," Milligan said. "So now we're just making sure that all of those are on point and then being able to expand that playbook more." The added depth and veteran-laden roster come with high expectations heading into the new season. "As a team, we didn't win the Grey Cup, so you know, it wasn't good enough." he said. "I'm trying to get me a Grey Cup."
