Johor MB: Over RM2 million allocated to upgrade digital systems at state land office to ease transactions
JOHOR BARU, June 18 — The Johor government has allocated over RM2 million to upgrade the digital systems of the state's Land and Mines Office (PTG) to improve transaction processes, Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced today. Of the total, RM1.55 million is earmarked for upgrading the Computerised Land Registration System (SPTB) portal. 'This includes enhancements to the Johor PTG's e-submission, e-search, and e-consent digital services. Online private searches for strata titles are now available and will soon be extended to landed titles as well,' he said in a statement. An additional RM500,000 has been allocated for developing the e-SBKS system, scheduled to launch in September. 'The e-SBKS system will significantly reduce the time required for land grant returns from 510 days to just 53 days per transaction,' Onn Hafiz said. He added that the state government is also considering raising the levy fee for property acquisition approvals by foreign interests to address operational costs. 'The proposed levy increase is from two per cent with a minimum of RM20,000 to three per cent with a minimum of RM30,000. 'Additionally, the registration fee for land transfer transactions involving properties valued at RM500,000 and above will see an additional RM500 charge for every RM100,000 increase in property valuation,' he explained. Onn Hafiz said the proposal was discussed with stakeholders, including the Johor Real Estate and Housing Developers Association of Malaysia (Rehda) and the Johor Bar Committee. He noted that the levy rate for foreign property acquisitions has remained unchanged since 2014, while land transfer registration fees have not been revised since 2004. 'This initiative demonstrates the state government's commitment to enhancing public service delivery, making it more efficient, transparent, and responsive to the people's needs,' he said. The improvements aim to ease processes for residents, expedite land transaction approvals, and bolster investor confidence in Johor's public service system. Onn Hafiz also highlighted additional work process enhancements by the Johor PTG, which have significantly shortened processing times. 'For instance, approvals for foreign interests have been reduced from 70 to 21 days, while local transactions have been cut from 14 to seven days,' he added.

Jordan condemns Israel's resumption of land registration in the occupied West Bank
AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday condemned the decision by Israel, as an occupying force, to resume the so-called "land registration and property settlement", especially in Area C of the occupied West Bank. A Foreign Ministry statement denounced the move as a blatant violation of international law and a continuation of Israel's efforts to impose its sovereignty over Palestinian land. Sufian Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson, said that the resumption of this policy is in direct violation of international legitimacy and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, whichexplicitly condemns all Israeli measures aimed at changing the demographic composition, character and legal status of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. The resolution also reaffirms that all Israeli settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory are illegal under international law. Qudah also cited the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which found Israel's occupation, settlement construction, and annexation of Palestinian land to be illegal. He stressed that Israel has no legal sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territories. The Foreign Ministry urged the international community to live up to its legal and moral responsibilities by taking concrete steps to stop Israel's military escalation in the occupied West Bank and its ongoing aggression againstthe Gaza Strip. The statement called for immediate action to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people, to hold accountable those responsible for violations, and to support the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Israel's West Bank land registration is a tool for annexation, NGO says
RAMALLAH: An Israeli rights group has denounced a government decision to launch extensive land registration for parts of the occupied West Bank, saying it could help advance annexation of the Palestinian territory. 'It is a tool for annexation,' said Yonatan Mizrachi of the Settlement Watch project at Israeli nongovernmental organization Peace Now. The West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, has no comprehensive land registry, with some areas unregistered or residents holding deeds from before the Israeli occupation. The Israeli security Cabinet on Sunday decided to initiate a land registration process in the West Bank's Area C, which covers more than 60 percent of the territory and is under full Israeli control. Though the process would likely take 'years' according to Mizrachi, he said that Palestinians in Area C could lose land if Israeli authorities do not accept their claim to it. This might lead to 'a massive land theft,' Peace Now said, adding that the process could result 'in the transfer of ownership of the vast majority of Area C to the (Israeli) state.' 'The Palestinians will have no practical way to realize their ownership rights,' the anti-settlement group said. Some Israeli ministers have advocated the annexation of the West Bank, home to around 3 million Palestinians as well as some 500,000 Israelis living in settlements that are illegal under international law. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a far-right politician who lives in a settlement, has said that 2025 would be the year Israel extends its sovereignty over parts of the West Bank. To Mizrachi, the government's decision was primarily 'about ... the places where they want to expand settlements,' including in areas considered state land. He mentioned remarks by Defense Minister Israel Katz, who praised the move in the official statement announcing it. Katz said that launching land registration 'is a revolutionary decision that brings justice to Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria,' the biblical name that the Israeli government uses to refer to the West Bank. The process will lead to the 'strengthening, establishment and expansion' of settlements, Katz was quoted as saying. He also said it would block 'attempts to seize land' by the Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in parts of the West Bank but not Area C. Mohammed Abu Al-Rob, director of the Palestinian Authority's communication center, said that the decision was 'a dangerous escalation of Israel's illegal policies aimed at entrenching its occupation and advancing de facto annexation.' Area C is 'an inseparable part' of the rest of the Palestinian territories, he said. Abu Al-Rob called on the international community to 'reject this unlawful decision and to take immediate, concrete action to thwart its implementation.'
