Maura Higgins looks incredible in latex for sizzling new shoot – as she reveals ‘PTSD' after Love Island
MAURA Higgins is almost completely unrecognisable in a stunning new photoshoot. Maura was transformed in this other-worldly shoot for Original Magazine, donning a series of eye-catching one-of-a-kind looks. 6 6 6 Donning latex and leather for some of the pics, the star channelled her vixen-side in a long, deep red wig for some pics, while in others she wore a sharp, stand out black bob. In another, Maura appeared to recreate a Grace Jones-style look in a full-body latex suit with a wide-brimmed black hat, which is tipped to the side and held in place by her hands, which boast long, razor-sharp pointed nails. Often staring down the camera to acclaimed photographer Ben Rankin, the high-end shoot comes after a brutally honest interview in which she admitted she struggled with her Love Island fame. First coming into the public eye alongside the likes of Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury in Love Island UK's series five back in 2019, Maura has become one of the defining faces of the entire franchise. Coming in fourth place alongside Curtis Pritchard, Maura has since gone on to star on I'm A Celebrity, and land a hosting gig on Love Island USA's Aftersun alongside main host Ariana Madix. But before she found her feet, Maura admits to the mag that she found herself flailing under the pressure, pushed to take on a string of jobs she wasn't happy with after being advised to "strike while the iron was hot". "When I first came off Love Island, I didn't know this industry very well. I took on way too much, and things that I didn't necessarily enjoy at the time," she told the mag. "There were moments after Love Island where I was so unhappy. I was crying a lot… when I look back, it actually gives me some PTSD. "I'm so, so, so fortunate now that I've got such an incredible team around me and we trust each other. That has changed everything for me." Irish Maura credited her famed confidence on her mum, who raised her alongside her three siblings – and said that I'm A Celebrity, which she appeared on last year, remains "one of the best things she's ever done". But she isn't afraid to acknowledge that part of her will always be tied to Love Island. While the star may have struggled to begin with, she is now known worldwide for both her collaborations with high-end fashion brands, photoshoots and reality TV appearances. But she says she's happy to help other islanders, especially Love Island USA stars, as they navigate their own path in fame. 'I get so excited to talk to these islanders about their experience. I always want to be that big sister and, you know, give advice and make them feel comfortable," she says. "I like to be there for them, because I have experienced it," Maura added. Silk & Snow's S&S Organic Mattress Is Soft as a Cloud
Right off the bat, I'm letting you know this bed is made of neither silk nor snow. I would argue that it's made with something even better—latex. The feel of latex can be hard to pinpoint, as I've heard it compared to everything from a thicker yoga mat or trampoline to even a waterbed. The fact of the matter is that latex has cushioning, pressure relief, and a bouncy feel. It's also pretty good at keeping out heat and allergens, which is a win for hot sleepers and those with allergies. With the S&S Organic mattress, I wanted to see if this bed really was the intersection of these performance aspects, paired with an eco-friendly build. After a week of testing, I have a few people in mind who would be prime candidates for this bed. Layer Cake Photograph: Julia Forbes The S&S Organic mattress's construction is eco-friendly from top to bottom, with certifications to show for it. The bed contains GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard), and Eco-Institut materials. As a professional mattress tester, I can verify that these are some of the best certifications you can get to back your product's organic claims. The latex used is from Sri Lanka, the cotton from India, and even the coils come from Toronto, Canada, in an effort to limit shipping pollution by keeping this material on the continent. The Eco-Institut certification ensures the materials don't contain harmful substances or emit anything of the like that would be counterintuitive to its 'organic' status. Based on the firmness you go with, whether that's the firm, medium-firm, or plush, the construction will slightly vary. I went with a medium-firm, which features a Euro pillow top. Silk & Snow states on its website that this particular firmness is meant for 'side, back, and combo sleepers all around,' to which I said, 'Let's see about that.' The medium-firm's construction comprises an organic cotton cover, organic quilted wool, organic quilted latex, a thicker organic latex layer, and pocketed coils. Now that you have the recipe, what does all of this mean? Starting with the top layers, the pillow top has a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover, with a wool layer underneath that's also—shocker—GOTS-certified. Both of these materials are breathable and porous, so they're meant to stay room temperature. Wool's also fire resistant, which means no man-made fire barriers are used here. The latex layers are perforated for airflow and pressure relief, and are of a particular firmer variety called Dunlop. This refers to how the latex was developed to feel, and there's a top 0.8-inch layer, a material barrier, and then a 1.5-inch layer for advanced cushion. You've got a material barrier to protect the latex, and the coils at the base are pocketed for customized support. They're reinforced right in the middle and around the edges, so the extra-firm feel helps with lumbar support and keeping you from tipping over the edge while lying or sitting on the sides. To round out the protection, the bottom is another wool layer to make the bed fireproof. Soft As … The first night of testing the S&S Organic, I tucked myself in and was out cold, which doesn't normally happen for me with mattresses. I felt the surface of the bed give gentle pushback, but not in a way that counteracted the pressure relief around my hips and shoulders. As the week went on, I began to notice some other perks of the bed. It was very easy to move around on, giving me a little extra 'oomph' if I switched sides. It wasn't a slingshot, but the latex and coil construction of the bed makes the surface very responsive. So far, I agreed with the evaluation on Silk & Snow's end of this being a side- and combo-sleeper-friendly mattress.

The Best Organic Mattress Toppers for Your Nontoxic Bed

Now, to be fair to PlushBed, this latex topper doesn't have to be extra firm. PlushBed offers five firmness levels ranging from 'soft' to 'extra firm.' I went for extra firm and could not be happier. It's the firmest topper or mattress I've ever tried. It's so firm I used the 3-inch model by itself for a bed in our vintage RV. Again, though, if you want something softer, PlushBed has you covered. PlushBed's latex topper is made of GOLS-certified Talalay latex. It also carries the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Greenguard Gold certifications, meaning there should be no fillers, chemical dyes, pesticides, bleach, carcinogenic adhesives, chemical flame retardants, or other toxins. As with the Turmerry above, the cover is sold separately, and again, I don't think it's really necessary. I will say that the queen-size 3-inch extra firm version I tested is by far the heaviest topper I've used, and can be difficult to maneuver into place. The good news is, once you have it where you want it, there's no danger of it moving. Prices range from $288 for a twin 2-inch soft topper to $974 for a 3-inch extra firm California king topper. This latex topper is incredibly light and springy, making even my super-firm mattress feel soft and contouring without that strange sinking sensation you can get on other soft mattress toppers. There are two feel options, Medium and Plush, both of which use different types of latex. I tested the Medium, which still gave me plenty of softness, and the GOLS-certified (Global Organic Latex Standard) organic Dunlop latex was very airy to sleep on. The Plush version uses Talalay Latex, which generally offers a softer feel and more breathability, making for slightly cooler sleeping. It is just difficult to stand out when the competition is using the same specific materials. When the new Amerisleep Organica Plush first arrived, I was immediately surprised by just how plush it was. Most beds right out of the box are a bit soft -- but even after a few days, the Organica Plush was easily the softest latex hybrid bed I've tested. When rotating between sleeping positions, like from your side to your back, it feels like the material is almost propelling you, which is jarring if you've tried a latex bed before. We cycle through beds at our office a lot when new models come out, and old ones are no longer available. I have noticed that when people come to our office to test out beds, latex foam ones seem to be liked the least. That is obviously anecdotal, and lots of people enjoy the feel of latex foam but just know it's unlike most traditional beds. This means it should work well for all sleeper types: back, stomach, side and combination. Amerisleep Organica mattress construction The construction of both models of Organica is pretty standard for a latex foam hybrid. The main support layer of Organica is an 8-inch layer of individually wrapped, responsive coils. This provides plenty of support for every body type, including heavier folks. Above the coil layer is a 1-inch layer of natural Talalay latex foam. This layer of latex foam is a bit firmer and functions as a buffer between the comfort foam above and the coil layer below. The main comfort layer is a 2-inch layer of soft Talalay latex foam. Between the latex foam and the organic cotton cover is a 1-inch layer of organic wool for more padding and a fire barrier. Organica certifications As I've mentioned a few times, pretty much every material used in constructing the Organica mattress has some certification to show that it is organic and eco-friendly. The latex foam has GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certifications. The wool and cotton are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. The Organica mattress is a great choice if you're looking for an eco-friendly mattress. Earthfoam mattress performance Edge support The edge support of a mattress is important for couples sharing a mattress. If the bed's perimeter doesn't hold up well under pressure, it can lead to poor sleep due to feeling like you're going to roll off the bed. You will feel more supported by the base model than the Plush model because it is firmer and there's less material between you and the support coils, but I don't see people having issues on either one. The coils along the perimeter of the bed are made with a thicker gauge of steel, which provides improved edge support and is helpful for couples. Motion Isolation Motion isolation is another factor important for couples because a bed with poor motion isolation can wake you up if your partner tosses and turns throughout the night. This is an area where the Organica mattress doesn't perform that well because of the nature of latex foam. It's so bouncy and responsive that if your partner tosses and turns at night, you will likely feel like and if you're a light sleeper, that can lead to disrupted sleep. If you're a heavy sleeper who doesn't even wake up easily, then this won't be an issue, but light sleepers might have problems with Organica. Temperature regulation I'd describe the Organica mattress as sleeping temperature neutral. Latex foam is naturally breathable, and the molds mattress makers use to manufacture latex foam create perforations in the foam that improve airflow even more. Dillon Payne/CNET Organic beds made with wool can sleep warmer than average, as two members of our teams discovered when they sleept on the Avocado Luxury Organic mattress for a full month. Sleeping hot has way more to do with your sleeping environment than your specific mattress, so I wouldn't worry too much. This price puts it in the luxury tier. Unboxing this particular mattress isn't easy because it's quite heavy, so you should definitely have a friend there to help you remove it from the box. 100-night trial Amerisleep provides a standard 100-night in-home sleep trial with all of its beds. Keep in mind that your sleep trial begins the day you receive the mattress so make sure you get it unboxed as quickly as you can and start sleeping on it because it can take up to 30 nights for your body to adjust to a new bed. Return policy Within the 100-night trial period, but not before night 30, you can return the Organica and get a full refund with no additional cost, making the mattress a risk-free purchase.
