Baillie Gifford Says Consumer Key for China Techs, Not Tariffs
China's technology giants are set to shrug off the impact of higher US tariffs as their outlook is now far more dependent on local consumer sentiment, according to Baillie Gifford & Co.
Companies such as food-delivery giant Meituan are poised to prosper in the near term due to their strong market position even though rising tariffs may weigh on the economy, said Tim Campbell, chief executive officer and managing partner at the Edinburgh-based money manager. Chinese policymakers have plenty of monetary levers to pull if needed to stimulate demand, he said.
