Mum-turned-entrepreneur launches dream business after ingenious travel hack for parents goes viral

Rachel Crampton, 39, made headlines in the Daily Mail back in 2022 after offering AUS$1000 (£485) for help to take her three toddlers on a 23-hour flight. She found herself stuck, needing to travel back from her brother's wedding in the UK to Australia and her husband, Ben, unable to join for the journey. 'Anyone heading from London to Sydney who wants to make $1,000??' she posted on Facebook before listing the responsibilities of the job. She was inundated with volunteers and since then, the Sydney-based British mother has created her own business inspired by her situation. Juurnee connects parents needing help tackling long-haul flights with child-friendly travel companions. People looking for a flight companion can post their offer for free on the site, while those applying to the ads pay £15 a year to message the parents directly and offer their services. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, Rachel describes how she 'definitely' never imagined she would have set up a company off the back of her asking for help. 'I was kind of in the midst of just having had a baby and thinking about my first trip back to the UK after a while because it had been Covid,' she explains. 'I kind of didn't think that at all, but that's sort of how it ended up.' After sifting through the hundreds of applicants to her advert, Rachel selected an Australian girl called Sarah who couldn't afford a flight home from London. It proved to be a success, with Sarah helping out for the entire 23 hours, and after an overwhelming public response as well as friends urging her to do so, Rachel set up Juurnee. She works on the site while also balancing a full time job, but says she's had 'loads of people using it'. Around 12,000 people have signed up since it launched as a trial in Australia in October, and it is now coming to the UK. 'This is something on the side I just wanted to do because after having been in the situation myself,' Rachel shares. 'The thought of that flight, having to do that by myself with my three really young children, and potentially not actually getting back to see my own family as I attend my brother's wedding. 'I thought, if it hadn't been for that girl that helped me, I might not have done that trick and so I just wanted to get it out there and help other people in the same situation as I was in.' There are plenty of opportunities on the website for those hoping to help and travel around too. Someone is offering £100 to help an elderly aunt during a journey from Melbourne to Delhi. Another ad promises a free flight, usually costing £500, to accompany an elderly passenger from Bangkok to London. Rachel has witnessed plenty of success stories happen through Juurnee, including one that particularly stands out to her. 'A girl who flew across to the UK, she's South African, and had two young children and her husband couldn't come as early as she could,' Rachel recalls. 'But the only way that she would be able to see her grandfather and he would meet the great grandchildren, was if she could get to the UK earlier, because he was flying over from South Africa and would only be there that week. 'And the husband couldn't fly to work at that time, and she said, I'm not doing the flight by myself with the kids, and because of Juurnee she could do the flight. 'The grandfather got to meet the great grandchildren, which without Juurnee wouldn't have happened.' The mum of three even has plans to use Juurnee herself this October when she might be sending her daughter to New Zealand during the school holidays. 'We're actually going to use it this October, because my seven year old will be on school holidays and we'll be working so we might send her over to New Zealand to stay with her grandparents,' Rachel says. 'So we'll get a Juurnee companion to accompany her, so that she's not just alone on the flight.'

Kmart Australia has just launched a 'very ugly' $49 travel buy that solves a problem we ALL face on a plane

An awkward-looking travel item has been hailed as a genius solution to a common long-haul flight problem. Holidaymakers are flocking to Kmart Australia stores after the budget retailer recently launched their $49 Bluetooth Travel Pillow Headphones. Although unsightly when worn, the tech travel item has been praised for combining the supportive qualities of a neck travel pillow with built-in Bluetooth headphone capability. The clever item resolves the common issue of trying to juggle wearing a neck pillow and wireless Bluetooth headphones at the same time - without the two travel essentials often knocking or interfering with one another. The must-have is described as a 'fusion of premium comfort and cutting-edge audio experience' that will 'redefine your travel experience'. Importantly, the Bluetooth headphones offer a potential 30 hours of play time when used at 80 per cent volume. This means there's no need to worry about the headphones running out of battery mid-flight. The tech travel item is charged via a USB cable, with one included with the device. It takes approximately two hours to fully charge. A small control panel on the right side of the neck pillow features the power, volume adjust and Bluetooth pairing buttons. The Kmart Bluetooth Travel Pillow Headphones, $49 are soft and cushioned, with an under-chin strap to ensure a snug fit. There is a small control panel for the headphones on the right side of the pillow The dimensions of the combo headphone and neck pillow are 19cm height, 21cm width and 21cm diameter. The cushioned pillow also features an adjustable (and amusing) under-chin strap, so that it fits snugly and offers quality neck support. The headphones themselves are also encased in a soft ear pad, ensuring the ears are cupped for both sound quality and comfort. Travellers can also rest assured as they come with a 12 month manufacturer warranty. A Kmart store worker recently highlighted some of her other favourite travel essentials in a video shared to the brand's TikTok account. One of the store worker's top picks was the 3-Piece Packing Cubes, priced at only $8. The female employee explained in the video that the different sized cubes were perfect to help you 'maximise storage in your suitcase'. Made of polyester, each of the packing cubes has an open mesh design with zip closure and carry handle. The suitcase storage saver has a 4.2 star rating on the brand's website, with many jet-setters raving about how it helps keep your luggage 'tidy and sorted'. One reviewer was pleased with the way the cases were able to 'compress clothes into taking up much less room' inside their suitcase. The other travel item highlighted in the recent social media video was the Anko Universal Travel Adapter Kit. The $39 item is described as 'the only travel adaptor you will need in your suitcase,' according to the online product description. The travel gadget has two USB A sockets and two USB C sockets, as well as two main outlets. It also comes with four interchangeable adaptor plugs to enable your electronic devices to be plugged in while visiting the US, UK, Japan, Europe, Bali and Hong Kong. The Kmart employee also made mention of the travel adaptor coming with a drawstring storage bag, allowing you to neatly store all of the adaptors together without losing any of them. 'Handy for travelling between different countries. Small enough to fit in your hand luggage,' read one of the many five-star reviews of the Kmart adaptor.

I travelled on easyJet's longest flight - here's the travel accessory that made it feel much quicker

Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more This March, easyJet launched their longest ever flight path from England: a six-hour, 2,400 mile flight between London, Gatwick and Sal, one of Cape Verde's 10 islands on the west coast of Africa. But despite its extended length, this new route is as affordable as many of easyJet's European destinations: prices start at just £113 one-way. The catch? The flight is carried out by the same planes that fly short-haul - meaning passengers are without in-flight entertainment, WiFi or even power sockets during these six hours. Wanting to find out whether the azure waters and marine life of this Sub-Saharan spot really are worth the journey, I braved the long-haul budget flight myself last week. Here's everything I took onboard to keep myself entertained and comfortable at 30,000 feet. MyHalos 100% Blackout Sleep Mask This blackout eyemask has seriously changed the game for me when it comes to sleeping - whether I'm flying halfway across the world, or just sleeping at home! With soft fabric suitable for dry eyes and a memory foam cushioning, it's the easiest way to block out the world and catch forty winks while 30,000ft in the air. £9.99 Shop Alpine SleepDeep There's nothing worse than getting stuck on a long-haul flight with a screaming baby, or a rowdy group of 'lads on tour'. These oval-shaped earplugs help to block out any surrounding noise, so you can sleep peacefully all the way to your destination. They stay firmly in place however you sleep, and are guaranteed 100 uses. £11.00 Shop MyTravelPal 20W Worldwide Travel Adaptor with USB C A travel adapter is an absolute must if you're going abroad. It fits any plug sockets around the world, and also has two USB ports, a slot for USB-C cables, and built-in USB-C cable, so you can charge five different devices at the same time. £23.99 Shop Owala FreeSip Bottle I've always got my water bottle handy, but I'm especially sure to have a well-sized one on a long-haul flight. I love this Owala FreeSip bottle, which comes in a whole host of colours. It has a straw, too, so there are no dangers of turbulence-induced spillages! £23-36.99 Shop Anker Nano Power Bank Being an EasyJet plane, there were no plug sockets to use on my journey to Sal. This Anker Power Bank was a game-changer - and it's perfectly pocket-sized, too! £19.98 Shop EarFun Wave Pro Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones As a music lover, a six-hour flight is an unbeatable opportunity to catch up on all the best new albums, totally uninterrupted. These over-the-head headphones are my go-to: they're comfortable, great value for money andgreat for noise cancelling, too. £59.99 Shop Amazon Kindle While I love read paperbooks, there's no denying that a Kindle is a must on holiday. Plus, it conceals the more trashy books I indulge in on holiday. Lightweight and with a remarkably good battery life, I can always rely on my kindle to help while away the hours of a long-haul flight. £94.99 Shop GYMSHARK OVERSIZED HOODIE No matter the temperature on the ground, I always seem to get cold under the blast of plane aircon. This Gymshark hoodie is my favourite for flights, and proved particularly handy for snuggling up and snoozing all the way to Sal. . £50 Shop TRTL TRAVEL PILLOW I'm very grateful that I can fall asleep on planes fairly easily - but this TRTL neck pillow was a serious level up when it came to my airborne naps. It's easy to wash, super light and the best neck pillow I've come across yet. . £49.99 Shop

The ideal travel outfit, even when your journey is long haul

Finding a smart outfit to wear for a long-haul flight makes a significant difference to the experience. It's about feeling in control, however dispiriting the conditions. I don't mean smart as in Sunday best. It's not 1963. And I don't mean something you can go straight to a boardroom meeting in, either. It's not 1993. I'm talking about simple tricks to look sleek. Coordinating colours (that includes shoes or trainers), strong contrasts (stripes, checks, simple graphic prints), some unfussy silver or gold jewellery for a finished look (nothing pricey, it's easily lost on-board), fabrics that look considered rather than just grabbed from your gym bag, and a tailored element you can pop on when you've arrived. If those boxes are ticked, most of the outfit can be a blend of casual stretchy and loose. A simple 100 per cent organic cotton T-shirt is a good start (try or something with an integral, non-wired bra that still offers support (M&S has options). Athletics brands such as Vuori, Sweaty Betty and Alo Yoga have all branched into a category I'll call travel trousers, which are game-changers (yes, if you're flying business they'll give you PJs but they're generally nylon, which might be fine on your legs but not round your armpits). I wore these Lululemons on a 23-hour flight to Sydney recently (including a three-hour stopover in Doha, where the Four Seasons-quality showers make all the difference). Lululemon also sells pleat fronts with stretchy waistbands. They're all as synthetic as Hollywood plastic surgery, but easy to wash, although mine have faded a bit. High Sport, the OG of stretch trousers, has super- stylish cotton kick flares… for £680. Alternatively, Baujken's jogger-meets-smart in sustainable, Ecovero and Lenzing, worn with a blazer and the right shoes, would work for our smart-vibes matrix. Cotton knits are cooler than wool and more straightforward to wash. Cardigans are easier to take on and off: for extra smartness, make it a cardigan jacket. If you're partial to a soft scarf (every micro luxury helps), Cornelia James's ultra-lightweight, 6ft- long shawls are heaven – and take up almost no space. Speaking of which, a tote with a separate compartment for your laptop or iPad is ideal to safeguard it from liquids. Aspinal's London Tote has the internals just right. I pop my scarf, Kindle plus charger and potions in separate pouches in it so that I can keep essentials next to me without having to disturb my neighbour constantly by reaching into the overhead locker. Stow London has excellent clear travel accessories – pricey but durable. Skincare supremo Keren Bartov recommends plenty of massaging with facial oil and repeat applications of moisturiser and hyaluronic acid, particularly on your neck. And SPF. Those rays at 35,000 feet are real. And boring as it is, drinking a minimum of 1.5 litres while on an eight-hour flight is transformative. Take your gua sha stone with you and use it for instant depuffing. No one will bat an eye at your on-board spa session, possibly because they're wearing a sheet mask. Final touch as you land? A swipe of bright lipstick or whatever your one desert island cosmetic is: previous 24 hours erased. Your in-flight wardrobe... Lisa wears: Jumper, from a selection, Sézane; Stretch high-rise pants, £108, Lululemon; Cashmere foulard, £165, & Daughter; Leather sandals, £225, Russell & Bromley; Sunglasses, £150, Cubitts; Enamel dipped earrings, £35, Whistles; Bonded canvas tote bag, £143 (down from £239) £239, Radley; Cabin suitcase, £310, Antler Photography: Sarah Brick. I flew on the best low-cost airline in Northern Europe – the price for a flight is crazy & we slept nearly the whole way

THE best airlines in Europe have been revealed - and I was lucky enough to fly on one of them during a long-haul flight. Norse Atlantic Airways was awarded the Best Low-Cost Airline in Northern Europe by this year's Skytrax World Airline Awards. 3 3 Not only that, but it also came in fifth place for the World's Best Long Haul Low Cost Airlines. And after a recent 11-hour flight with them, I definitely agree. I boarded the budget airline for a flight from London Gatwick to Cape Town. I splashed out on premium economy costing £3,583 - that may sound like a lot but it was nearly £1,500 cheaper than other rival airlines. Doing the long flight with my five-year-old son, it was worth every penny. He slept nearly the whole way from from 10pm to 7am, while I snatched a manageable 5ish hours. It might not have been a full night sleep but it was more than I had ever slept in standard economy. Premium seats also include ear plugs, eye masks, pillows and blankets at the start of the flight, as well as headphones and two meals. I was impressed with the food (after all, plane meals are notoriously hit and miss) with a tasty tortellini and cheesecake. But even the economy flights are pretty good, which we tried on our return home. Budget airline to launch brand new long-haul flights from the UK this year 3 While the seats are slimmer, we booked bulkhead seats which felt just as roomy (even for my 5ft10 self). We were happy with the paid-for snack options too, with hot sandwiches and ready noodle pots. It also felt much easier seeing as it was a day flight, and didn't need the blankets and pillows as much which were extra. Along with friendly staff, I was more than impressed with Norse - and they are next on my list to fly with again to Orlando. Other award-winning airlines include Qatar Airways, named the world's best airline for the ninth time. The Sun's Deputy Travel Editor Kara Godfrey and the Sun's Assistant Travel Editor Sophie Swietochowski both tried it out. And are some of our other airline reviews, including the airline with the best food.
