JPJ seizes lorry, investigates company over permit breaches in fatal FRU crash in Teluk Intan
KOTA BHARU, June 6 —The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper against the lorry company involved in the fatal accident which took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak, last month. JPJ senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. 'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month. 'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,' he told reporters after observing the Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha here last night. He said the initial investigation found that there was a violation of permit conditions involving the lorry company. 'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely stones, while the permit approved was to transport coal. 'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said. On May 12, a lorry driven by a man collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampan, Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh. As a result of the accident, nine FRU members were killed, while nine others were injured. — Bernama

Cops seek dashcam footage in probe into fatal FRU crash

(Bernama pic) PETALIN JAYA : Police are urging motorists with dashcam footage of the crash that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Perak to come forward as they seek more evidence in their probe. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said the authorities are particularly looking for recordings captured before and during the incident, which took place along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam on Tuesday. 'If there is a recording (dashcam), it will be solid evidence in this case,' Bernama quoted him as saying after attending the prosecution proceedings of the lorry driver involved in the incident. 'So far, with the help of the media, several public witnesses have come forward to give their statements. They will be of great assistance in this investigation. 'I urge more people to contact us. The information will be kept confidential.' Bakri also said the investigation is not limited to human negligence or environmental factors. Police are also focussing on technical aspects, including vehicle maintenance records and the condition of the lorry involved in the crash, he added. As of now, 15 people, including the owner of the lorry company, have had their statements recorded to assist in the investigation.

TELUK INTAN, May 16 — The owner of a lorry company has been called to give a statement to assist in the investigation into the fatal accident which took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel here, on Tuesday. Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Bakri Zainal Abidin said the owner was among 15 witnesses who had been called to give their statements so far. 'Apart from the human negligence and environmental factor, we are also focusing on the technical aspects, so elements such as vehicle maintenance are also being taken into account in this investigation,' he said. He said when met after the prosecution proceedings of the lorry driver involved in the accident at Jalan Chikus - Sungai Lampam on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bakri said the police are hoping for more witnesses who have evidence of the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation. He said this included the dashcam recordings before and during the incident, as no one had come forward to provide the footage.
