A MAKOR motorway has shut after a lorry burst into flames sparking hour-long delays and seven miles of congestion. Emergency services rushed to the M26 at around 2pm today to reports of the fire. 2 2 The blaze, which erupted close to junction 22 for Rishworth Moor, West Yorkshire, has sparked huge delays with drivers told to take alternative routes. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area as three lanes are currently closed until junction 21 for Milnrow. National Highways warned of delays of up to 75 minutes and seven miles of congestion eastbound between Junction 22 and Junction 24. It's believed the fire was caused by an oil spillage, which is being now being tended to. The operator said: "The M62 in West Yorkshire is CLOSED eastbound between J22 (Denshaw) and J24 (Huddersfield) due to a lorry fire. "Emergency services are in attendance. More information to follow soon. Thanks for your patience if you're held up." A spokesperson from the West Yorkshire Fire Service said: 'We were called at 13.49 to reports of a large vehicle on fire on the M62 – JCT 22/23 Eastbound. 'We have two crews at the scene who have extinguished a cab and trailer on fire, with no reports of injuries.'

National Highway has warned that the carriageway between Junction 12, Reading, and Junction 13, Newbury, is closed. Multiple fire crews are battling to bring the blaze under control as thick black smoke has forced traffic on the eastbound side to a standstill too. Officers are at the scene helping to manage the gridlocked traffic, which is backing up for miles. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and allow extra time for journeys. National Highways said: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. "Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey." Diversion Route National Highways said road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs: Exit the M4 at J12. At the roundabout take the 1st exit and join the A4. Continue on the A4 for approx.12.5 miles, to Newbury. At the A4/A339 roundabout use the 3rd exit and join the A339. Follow the A339 for approx. 2.5 miles, merging with the A34. At the Chieveley interchange use the nearside lanes for the M4 J13 roundabout. At the J13 roundabout take the 1st exit and re-join the M4 westbound. 1
