Monroe County Sheriff: 1 teen arrested, another released following breaking and entering
MONROE TOWNSHIP, MI — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is launching an investigation after an outlet mall was broken into.
On Sunday night, July 6, just before midnight, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call about an alarm going off in 14500 block of Laplaisance Road in Monroe Township. Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, an outlet mall housing several recreational marijuana dispensaries, and discovered a "fresh break-in."
"Subsequent investigation allowed deputies to identify the two suspects as a 16-year-old male and 17-year-old male," the Sheriff's Office said in a release.
Both teens are Monroe County residents and were staying with a relative at a nearby hotel when the incident occurred. The 17-year-old was lodged in the Monroe County Youth Center, but the 16-year-old was released to his mom. According to the release, the 16-year-old was disqualified from arrest based on "recent state-mandated guidelines."
Requested charges against both teens were forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.
