Plans to extend Liverpool's 185-year-old Greatie Market approved
A 185-year-old city market is set to be extended as part of a £5m upgrade that will see the creation of a new food and drink area and a space for community Great Homer Street Market in Liverpool, known as the Greatie Market, was earmarked for funding in March 2024 as part of a levelling-up package announced by the previous refurbishment will include upgrades to the existing market building as well as new seating areas and revamped lighting, flooring and customer City Council will now begin the process of appointing consultants and contractors, with construction work expected to begin next year.
Derelict industrial units on Rachel Street, Dryden Street and the Central Tin site near the market will be demolished under the approved aim is to boost footfall, increase the amount of time visitors spend in the market, support local businesses and attract new forms part of a wider initiative to boost north Liverpool's economy.
