Zohran Mamdani's historic New York mayor nomination is confirmed

Zohran Mamdani, a New York state assembly member, secured the Democratic mayoral nomination in New York City.
Mamdani won the primary with 56% of votes in the third round of ranked-choice voting, defeating veteran politician Andrew Cuomo.
His victory, as a relatively unknown democratic socialist, marks a significant shift in the city's political landscape.
Mamdani will now face current mayor Eric Adams (independent), Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent attorney Jim Walden in the general election.
His win has drawn criticism from some Democrats and was labelled "100% Communist Lunatic" by Donald Trump, who also commented on Mamdani's stance on immigrant arrests.
