Wetherspoons confirms ‘outstanding' chicken meal is axed from all pubs leaving customers gutted

SPOONS fans have been left gutted after an 'outstanding' chicken meal was quietly axed from the menu. The beloved pub chain recently made a huge shake-up to its menu - and it turns out another fan favourite has disappeared from restaurants. 1 The Chicken Wings Basket meal is no longer available, a Wetherspoon spokesperson confirmed to The Sun. A Spoons customer questioned the decision on Reddit, writing: 'Why in the ever-loving f*** did Wethos get rid of the wings basket? 'My heart is broken.' The meal had included crispy chicken wings served in a basket alongside coleslaw and a choice of sauces. Fans had previously described the meal as 'outstanding and great value'. One person wrote: 'The best meal at Wetherspoons is the chicken wings basket, change my mind!' The meal was taken off the menu on May 14. However the chicken wings are still available as a small plate dish and as part of the pub chain's 'wings, strips and bites' offer. Plus, customers can still get the Boneless Basket which comes with three southern-fried chicken strips, five chicken breast bites, coleslaw and BBQ sauce. There's also the Chicken Bites Basket which includes 10 battered chicken breast pieces, coleslaw and BBQ sauce. Wetherspoons taste test The Chicken Wings Basket wasn't the only popular meal to come off the menu in May. Wetherspoon also decided to axe the steaks, mixed grill and gammon in a major blow for customers. The pub chain said at the time it wanted to freshen up its food offering and cut back on items branded 'loss-makers' after meat prices shot up. In an email sent to staff, Wetherspoons chief John Huston confirmed that the meats were being ditched 'after much debate'. However, in their place it released a brand new range of gourmet burgers. The mouthwatering new selection includes: The Big Smoke – Pulled BBQ beef brisket, American-style cheese and maple-cured bacon. Buffalo Burger – Fried buttermilk chicken breast with blue cheese, naga chilli sauce and melted cheese. Cheese Meltdown – American cheese layered with gooey Emmental and Cheddar cheese sauce. The chain also rolled out a new Korean-style chicken range. Spoons also launched a £2.99 breakfast deal in February, with customers able to get a breakfast muffin or small breakfast with soft or hot drink. There are also veggie options available, which is served between 8am and midday. Meanwhile tea and toast, which comes with two slices and either jam or marmalade, is just £2.49. It's not been all good news for Wetherspoons punters in recent months though. The pub chain exclusively revealed to The Sun in January it had increased the price of a host of drinks and meal deals by up to 30p. The chain hiked prices on drinks by 15p while meal deals were bumped up by 30p. Plus, the Chicken Bites Basket briefly disappeared from menus earlier this year. Customers were disappointed when they were listed as 'temporarily unavailable' for months. But they triumphantly returned to menus again in July. It's not clear why they were taken off the menu. How can I save money at Wetherspoons? FREE refills - Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day. Check a map - Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other. So if you're planning a pint at a Spoons, it's worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you're settling in at the cheapest. Choose your day - Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights. For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual. Pick-up vouchers - Students can often pick up voucher books in their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled. Get appy - The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table - but you don't need to be in the pub to use it. Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play. Check the date - Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry. It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14. As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival.

McDonald's to axe four items from menus in HOURS in latest shake up

MCDONALD'S is set to axe four items from its menu this week in the latest shake-up. Fans will have to say goodbye to a popular McFlurry, burger and side as part of the update. Among the items being axed on July 29 is the Cheesy McCrispy. The burger is made with a chicken breast fillet in a crunchy coating that is served with lettuce, crispy onions, pickled onion chutney, bacon, white cheddar cheese slices and cheese sauce. It cost £6.69 on its own or £8.49 for a medium meal, although prices can vary between restaurants. Also leaving the menu are the popular Halloumi Fries, which are served with a sweet chilli dip. They cost just £2.99, or £9.59 for a sharebox. Meanwhile, the Katsu Wraps will also come off the menu this week. The wraps were launched for the first time in January and come with grilled or crispy chicken. Shoppers could pick them up for £3.49 each or £2.29 on Wednesdays and Sundays. Customers could also get their hands on the wrap as part of a medium meal for £5.29. The last item leaving the menu this week is the Toffee Crisp McFlurry. The tasty treat is made from soft dairy ice cream swirled with Toffee Crisp pieces and is topped with toffee sauce. It cost just £2.39, making it one of the cheapest items on the menu. It is not uncommon for McDonald's to shake up what is sold across its 1,300 UK restaurants to make way for new items. Menus are updated every few months or in line with certain events including Easter or Christmas. And just because an item is discontinued does not mean it is gone forever. How to save at McDonald's You could end up being charged more for a McDonald's meal based solely on the McDonald's restaurant you choose. Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30% cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other. You can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 at any time by filling in a feedback survey found on McDonald's receipts. The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey. You'll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer. There are some deals and offers you can only get if you have the My McDonald's app, so it's worth signing up to get money off your meals. The MyMcDonald's app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android phones and is quick to set up. You can also bag freebies and discounts on your birthday if you're a My McDonald's app user. The chain has recently sent out reminders to app users to fill out their birthday details - otherwise they could miss out on birthday treats. McDonald's new menu items It comes as the home of the golden arches is preparing to launch a new menu on July 30. McDonald's is also bringing back seven returning favourites, including the Big Tasty and the Big Tasty with Bacon. The burgers were last spotted on menus in 2024 and feature a beef patty, Emmental cheese, onions, tomatoes and a smoky sauce. But there is a catch - they will only be available in East Anglia. Burger fans in Tyne & Tees are also getting an exclusive menu item - the returning Steakhouse Stack. But people who live in this area will be missing out on another menu item that's returning. The Chicken Big Mac - a chicken version of the McDonald's classic burger - will be available everywhere except for East Anglia and Tyne & Tees. The burger features two chicken patties, a slice of cheese, pickles, lettuce and Big Mac sauce. But fast food fans across the UK will get to enjoy other returning fan favourites. These include the Spicy Chicken Nuggets, which come with a Spicy Chilli Dip, and Chilli Cheese Bites. Plus there's the Milky Way McFlurry and the Fajita Chicken One wrap. Alongside the returning items there are also some new additions to the menu. Fans have been excited to get their hands on the Jaffa Cakes McFlurry, which includes chocolate-covered shortcake pieces and an orange sauce to replicate the famous flavour. The menu items will only be available for the next six weeks so you'll need to be quick. McDonald's is also giving customers the chance to customise their Sprite Zero drinks. They'll be able to add a pump of fruity syrup to the drink, which comes in the flavours Green Apple or Mango & Passionfruit. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? McDonald's just brought a bunch of international menu items to Canada — and pizza is back (kind of)

McDonald's Canada's newest menu update is bringing international flavours to Canada. On Monday, the restaurant announced a new lineup of menu items inspired by McDonald's menu favourites around the world. The new menu additions feature several of the most popular menu items from places like Germany, Italy, Japan and more. And it's not just sandwiches and burgers. Diners can also try pizza bites, McFlurries, specialty sauces and more. Keep scrolling to see what new menu additions Canadians can try — and what people are saying. McDonald's is bringing back pizza — well, kind of. McDonald's McPizza Bites are an international twist on a fan-favourite McDonald's Italy dish. They're also a callback to the McPizza, which was discontinued more than two decades ago. The bites are made with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce, all wrapped in toasted pizza dough. The new Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich is a spin on a chicken sandwich from McDonald's Japan. The new McDonald's sandwich features a breaded, seasoned chicken patty covered in a sweet and tangy teriyaki sauce that's then topped with shredded lettuce, mayo-style sauce and a sesame seed bun. The second new sandwich in the lineup is the Big Rösti — a seasonal menu item at McDonald's Germany, usually available during the winter. A rösti is a traditional Swiss/German pan-fried dish made from grated potatoes, similar to a hash brown. The McDonald's sandwich features a beef burger topped with hickory-smoked bacon, processed cheese, a cheese sauce, and, most importantly, a golden rösti hash brown, all served on a rolled oat bun. The only new dessert item features an iconic European cookie. The Biscoff McFlurry, from McDonald's Belgium, features a Biscoff cookie combined with McDonald's ice cream. Biscoff is a cookie from Lotus Bakeries that originated in Belgium in 1932 and is known for its caramelized, spiced taste. One of two new limited-edition dipping sauces, this McDonald's U.K. favourite features a punchy hit of garlic. The other new sauce on the menu is a zingy chili sauce served at McDonald's Australia, where the condiment is extremely popular. Even though the new menu just launched on Tuesday, Canadians are already weighing in on social media. "Those pizza bites were soooo gooood in Italy! I'm excited to 'eat around the world' McDonald's style," wrote one person on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by McDonald's 🇨🇦 (@mcdonaldscanada) "Call me Mrs. Worldwide the way I'm about to become acquainted with these menu items," wrote another. "I am so hyped for this! I love the idea of trying other countries' items," one person added. "I'm gonna need a Biscoff McFlurry tout de suite," another person commented. "This is insane.I will be trying all of these," wrote a person on X. "A someone who travels the world and goes to all the McDonalds, this is great," another user commented. Some commenters said they want more international items to come to Canada, including the Chicken Wings from McDonald's Italy, the Big Brekkie Burger from McDonald's Australia and the Burger 280 from McDonald's France.
