MARS Launches New Skittles Cloudz With Met Service Website And Britomart Takeover
Press Release – Mars Thousands of Auckland commuters experienced a colour and flavour burst with a visual takeover of Britomart station to launch new Skittles Cloudz, a soft-format twist on one of New Zealand's most loved confectionery brands. Kiwis consumed over one million bags of original Skittles nationwide last year, and now for the first time since they were launched in 2003, global FMCG giant MARS is introducing a new chewy, textural twist on the familiar fruity favourite to the local market – Skittles Cloudz. As part of the product launch, Auckland commuters trialling the free product benefited from a colour therapy experience designed to combat the emotional toll of winter. The Skittles 'Taste The Rainbow' colour burst, at the city's busiest train station, took inspiration from colour and taste therapy to help lift moods during the darkest part of the year. To further amplify the launch, Skittles has also taken over the MetService website, bringing a burst of colour to the country's most-visited weather destination. For a limited time, weather updates on were presented through a vibrant Skittles-themed lens, merging the nation's daily weather habits with a playful twist on the brand's 'Taste the Rainbow' campaign. The creative activation brought an unexpected moment of cheer to Kiwis checking the forecast during the winter gloom, reinforcing the Skittles Cloudz campaign's mission to brighten up the season. Shane Hammond from MARS says Skittles remains one of New Zealand's most popular confectionery products, with strong nationwide demand year-round. Calm Conditions Set To Turn Wet, Windy And Warm
Forecast – MetService Covering period of Thursday 24th – Monday 28th July Cold, settled weather holds through Saturday for most Rain and wind move in from the south late Saturday More widespread wet weather expected early next week, with possible heavy falls for the north of both islands Aotearoa New Zealand has enjoyed a run of calm, frosty mornings and crisp, clear days under a broad ridge of high pressure. Places like Dunedin Airport, Timaru, and Wanaka dipped to their lowest temperatures of the year this morning (Thursday), at -6.7°C, -4.7°C and -5.1°C respectively. While Aucklanders have seen consistent low morning temperatures, dropping below 4°C every day so far this week. However, this spell of settled weather is coming to a close, as conditions gradually turn over the weekend with warmer temperatures, rain and wind firmly returning to the forecast from early next week. After what has been a notably cold and settled week of July, the shift to a more active pattern may feel like a dramatic change for many. MetService meteorologist Devlin Lynden says, 'We can enjoy the clear days for a little bit longer. But that ridge is on the move, and we'll start to feel the effects as early as Saturday in the south.' He adds, 'Our focus is on the next system which will bring rain and wind back into the picture for many areas by late Sunday and into Monday, with more severe weather possible on Tuesday.' The first signs of change eventuate in Fiordland late Friday, with cloud and showers spreading northward. By Sunday, areas like Northland and the West Coast can expect scattered showers, while eastern regions such as Canterbury and Hawke's Bay stay dry a little longer. Next week looks more unsettled overall, with warmer temperatures brought in by strengthening northerly winds. Showers spread further east on Monday, and by Tuesday, there is the risk of heavier rain developing for the north of the North Island, the Tasman District and the West Coast, areas that have already seen plenty of severe weather this winter. 'Warnings and Watches for Heavy Rain and for Strong Winds may be issued in the coming days. MetService Issues Red Warning For The Tasman District
Forecast – MetService Covering period of Friday 11 July At 9:59am MetService escalated the severe weather warnings in the Tasman District to a Red Warning for Heavy Rain, in consultation with the Tasman District Council. MetService Red Warnings are reserved for the most extreme weather events where significant impact and disruption is expected. The Red Rain Warning is valid until 11pm tonight (Friday) and covers the Tasman District about and southeast of Motueka and north of Lake Rotoroa, excluding Nelson City. The escalation to a Red Warning comes on the back of three weeks of heavy rain events that have led to very saturated conditions and high river levels, with further rainfall expected with the current weather system. The region has already seen more than 50 mm of rain so far today, with a further 80 to 120 mm expected. MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane says, 'Dangerous river conditions, flooding, slips, and dangerous road conditions are expected.' 'A Red Warning signifies that people need to act now as immediate action is required to protect people, animals and property from the impact of the weather. People should also be prepared to follow the advice of official authorities and emergency services.' This is the second Red Warning MetService has issued this year, and it's the 17th Red Warning weather event since the highest alert level was introduced back in May 2019. A Watch for Strong Winds is also in place for the Tasman District for northerlies and northeasterlies approaching severe gale. The wet ground may act together with the strong winds to increase the chances of trees falling. It's not just the top of the South Island which is lined up for severe weather. Many parts of the North Island are under a blanket of Warnings and Watches for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds. Northland, Auckland, Coromandel, and Bay of Plenty may see a period of downpours as the weather system moves across this afternoon and evening.
