Ed Sheeran reveals 'professional singers mime' as he hits out at certain performers for cancelling shows
British icon Ed Sheeran has revealed that there are 'professional singers that mime'.
Appearing in a new YouTube video with the Beta Squad, Ed had to use his musical knowledge to guess who was a professional singer out of six people.
Throughout the video the Shape of You singer opens up about various aspects of the industry, making subtle digs at some of his fellow professionals.
At one point in the video, one of the potential singers suggests miming when her voice needs resting.
Sheeran, 34, said: 'I don't know if a professional singer would admit to miming.'
A member of the Beta Squad asked him: 'I thought a lot of professional artists do that though?'
To which Ed replied: 'They don't admit to it though. I can't get away with it because it's me with a loop pedal and a guitar.
'I would never cancel a show for my voice. I'd always push through, even if it was like slightly raspy.
'Because there are professional singers that mime, but they would never admit to it.'
In 2017, Ed Sheeran famously defended himself after his Glastonbury headline set after some fans accused him of using a backing track.
He penned on X, formerly Twitter, at the time: 'Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x.'
Not letting the backlash ruin his 'dream' moment up on the Pyramid Stage, Ed added in a second tweet: 'Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all.'
Just this week Ed has teased new music with one video showing Rupert Grint returning as Ed Sheeran's stalker for an upcoming 'utterly bonkers' music video.
The actor, 36, appeared in Ed's 2011 music Video Lego House, which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart.
In the video, Rupert's character was seen being taken into custody after breaking into the singer's tour bus and attempting to impersonate him onstage.
Now it looks like he's back once again, as Ed shared a teaser for his new single 'A Little More' on Instagram on Monday.
The teaser showed Rupert reprising his role and appearing to walk free from prison as flashbacks from the original 2011 video played.
Ed wrote alongside the post: '14 years later me and @rupertgrint are reunited.
'I had this wild idea after writing the song, and thankfully rupert was up for it. It's an utterly bonkers video for a very upbeat, fun, but angry song.
'Think this one is gonna be a lot of people's fav song from 'Play'. Out Thursday, watch out for more stuff coming x.'
As mentioned by Sheeran, 'A Little More' will feature on his upcoming album, 'Play', which is due out this September.
His new music has also been celebrated by the singer buying a new £9million home in New York.
With an impressive property portfolio already worth a staggering £70million, the Mail revealed he has now purchased a his dream property in the heart of Brooklyn, which neighbours his pal Kendrick Lamar.
Ed - who is estimated to be worth a whopping £300million - and his wife Cherry Seaborn set up a company to handle the purchase of the NYC home.
The couple, who have been married since 2019, share daughters Lyra, four, and Jupiter, two, and grew up together in the same town in Suffolk.
Setting up the company has given Ed and Cherry tax advantages should they come to flog the splendid waterfront property.
The pair were already renting another pad in the same complex for a whopping £25,000 per month before deciding to buy their new place outright.
The Grammy-winning star purchased the roughly 3,400-square-foot place in an off-market deal.
The large complex offers luxury amenities including two fitness centres, a garage with EV charging stations and 24-hour attended lobbies.
Ed already owns at least 27 properties in London including a large £20million house in Notting Hill and houses in other sought-after areas including Holland Park and Covent Garden.
The star's investments are held under private companies and don't even include his large estate in Suffolk where he lives with his wife Cherry and their two daughters.
