[DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Saturday afternoon, Laurens County deputies and emergency crews were called to a boating accident near the Shady Field boat landing on Oconee River. Laurens County Fire Chief Joshua McCard told WMAZ they received a call around Saturday about a boat crashing into a tree. McCard told WMAZ that two people were on the boat and one, a 52-year-old man, fell overboard. He said he didn't believe he was wearing a life jacket. The other person called 911. The boater's identity has not been released. McCard told WMAZ, while dive teams are searching, they've had some difficulties due to the river's strong currents and it being about 12 feet deep. 'There's places that it's going to be deeper than that where it's washed out, but with it being up around 12 feet, that just leads to, more challenges,' McCard told WMAZ. Sheriff: Boat likely hit underwater concrete in Des Moines river, man still missing

EDDYVILLE, Iowa – The search for a missing boater in the Des Moines River stretched into its second day, with no sign of the man, according to Mahaska County Sheriff Russell Van Renterghem. 47-year-old Waylon Straube, of Eddyville, was thrown from a boat along with 50-year-old Roseanne Benda, of Corydon, around 9:50 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release. It is believed the boat may have struck concrete under the water near 310th Street, which caused the pair to be ejected, Sheriff Van Renterghem told WHO 13's Katie Kaplan. Benda was located floating in the river by deputies using a drone. The sheriff's office was then able to connect with nearby fishermen with a boat who were able to navigate to the drone's location and pull Benda from the water. Benda was reportedly unharmed. Multiple law enforcement agencies spent more than 10 hours searching for Straube on Sunday before the effort had to be paused when daylight ran out. The search picked up around 8 a.m. on Monday with multiple boats, many of which were equipped with sonar, said the Sheriff. As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the search was ongoing. MAHASKA-NEWS-RELEASEDownload If Straube is not located by sundown on Tuesday, the search is expected to span into a third day. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Search continues for missing boater on Waccamaw River

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The search continued Monday for a missing boater along the Waccamaw River. The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office and SC Department of Natural Resources have been looking for Kerry Van Arsdel, who left The Reserve Marina on May 19 and has not been seen since. Officials with the sheriff's office said marina employees located Arsdel's unmanned boat Thursday near Butler Island, miles away from the docks. His belongings were still inside. The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol ended its recovery efforts Monday ahead of expected bad weather. 'Deputies are concentrating on the area between The Reserve Marina and the bridge near Georgetown, judging tides, water temperature, and time as factors in the search. They will resume Tuesday morning,' officials explained. As the investigation progresses, deputies ask that anyone with information about Arsdel give them a call at 843-546-5102.
