Calgo Launches Mobile App to Support Distributed AI Computing Using Idle Device Resources
New app enables users to contribute idle device performance to eco-conscious computing initiatives. Image by Calgo Los Angeles, May 26, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Calgo, a forward-thinking technology startup, has officially launched its flagship mobile application, now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms. The app is designed to tap into unused processing capacity from smartphones, while plugged in and idle, to support low-impact, energy-conscious computing initiatives. In an era where sustainability and efficiency are at the forefront of tech innovation, Calgo offers a novel solution that leverages the latent potential of devices already in users' hands. Instead of relying solely on high-energy infrastructure like data centers, the Calgo platform introduces a new way for users to support future-focused computing without disrupting their daily phone usage. Turning Everyday Devices Into Purpose-Driven Tools 'Our mission is to unlock the untapped power of mobile devices and channel it toward meaningful, responsible applications,' said a Calgo spokesperson. 'With over 6 billion smartphones in use worldwide, we see an opportunity to create a smarter, more sustainable digital environment by connecting people through technology they already own.' Once installed and running in the background, the Calgo app operates only under optimal conditions, such as when the device is plugged in and not in active use. This ensures the app doesn't interfere with the user's regular phone activity or battery life. Early Access Program Now Open To celebrate the launch, Calgo has introduced a limited-time Early Access Program. New users who join during this phase will receive enhanced performance settings, exclusive in-app features, and priority access to upcoming updates. This initiative is designed to gather early feedback, reward early adopters, and further refine the platform's impact potential. Practical Use Cases and Future Development While the current app focuses on low-power background activity, Calgo's future roadmap includes: Tools for individual users to track their performance contribution and usage stats Optional features for participating in digital efficiency programs Secure participation in low-resource data handling tasks A rewards system for long-term contributors Collaboration with sustainability-focused initiatives and nonprofits The long-term vision for Calgo includes building an ecosystem where mobile users can passively contribute to global digital efficiency efforts while maintaining full control and transparency. Available for Download Now The Calgo app is now live and available here: Android: Google Play Store iOS: App Store Users are encouraged to explore the app, take advantage of the Early Access Program, and help shape the next generation of sustainable mobile Contact:Calgo Support Teamsupport@ Attachment Image by Calgo

Amazon's AI voiceovers will talk you through product features
Amazon is testing new AI-generated audio summaries that will let you listen to two AI 'hosts' chat about a product's features. Along with product details, the AI audio clips also draw information from user reviews and information from the web. The feature is currently available for select products on Amazon's mobile app, including the Ninja Blender, OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil, SHOKZ OpenRun Pro, and the SafeRest Waterproof Mattress Protector. You can try it out by hitting the 'Hear the highlights' button beneath the product. The audio summaries open with a 'friendly reminder' that you're listening to an AI-generated clip, followed by an introduction to an 'expert' AI host who's supposed to give you a rundown of a product's features. It's similar to Google's AI-generated audio overviews, which have two AI hosts discuss your research, documents, or slides in a podcast-like format. In the clip for the SHOKZ OpenRun Pro, the AI host introduces us to 'Max,' who says the key difference about these headphones is that they 'conduct sound through your cheekbones instead of going into your ears.' The AI host then follows up with questions about the headphones, like who would benefit from the design and whether the sound quality is up to par. 'While the microphone gets praise for noise cancellation, some users find they're not loud enough for an immersive music experience,' the AI 'expert' Max says. 'But customers do mention they're better than earpods in certain situations.' Amazon's AI-generated audio summaries are currently only available to some customers in the US, but the company plans on bringing them to more products and customers in the 'coming months.'

Winnipeg getting rid of city parking meters starting this summer
The City of Winnipeg says it plans to start removing pay stations at on-street parking areas and city-run surface lots this summer. Parking meters will start disappearing July 2, and all city pay stations will be gone by Aug. 31, the city said in a news release Wednesday. Pay stations in private lots will not be affected, and meters will also remain in the Millennium Library parkade. The change comes as Canada's mobile service providers phase out 3G networks, making the current city pay stations inoperable, the release said. The meters have also reached the end of their useful life, use outdated technology and attract theft and vandalism. Replacing the pay stations would cost $3.6 million, the release said. By not getting new ones, the city will save those costs, on top of the roughly $1 million it spends on operating costs every year. People can still pay for on-street parking using PayByPhone, which is available as a mobile app (iOS and Android), online and by phone (1-888-680-7275). PayByPhone accepts debit and credit card payments. Over 80 per cent of all paid parking transactions are currently made through PayByPhone, the city said. PayByPhone lets people pay for and add parking time from anywhere, the city said, encouraging users to download the app now to prepare for the change. People who prefer using cash to pay can still buy prepaid parking booklets (formerly the Scratch N' Park Meter Passes) at the Parking Store at 495 Portage Ave. They can also be paid for with debit or credit cards, the city said. The booklets will also be available to buy by July 2 at one of the city's 311 counters at the Susan A. Thompson Building at 510 Main St. (on the main floor), or at Access St. Boniface at 170 Goulet St.
