Pedro Pascal initially refused to slap Joaquin Phoenix during the filming of their new black comedy, Eddington.
The scene in question depicts Pascal's character, Mayor Ted Garcia, slapping Phoenix's character, Sheriff Joe Cross.
Pascal attempted to fake the slap, but Phoenix insisted he perform it for real, leading to Pascal hitting him forcefully.
Pascal said that hitting someone 'doesn't feel good' and he found the act 'really hard'.
However, Phoenix joked that he enjoyed it.
