Oasis superfan spends £56,000 to personalise car in style
The auction bidder secured a registration plate the Gallagher brothers would be proud of An Oasis superfan has reportedly paid a staggering £56,040 plus VAT for a personalised number plate commemorating the Manchester band. The registration plate 'OAS 1S' was sold at a recent DVLA auction. The sale happened last month as the band continue their tour across the UK and their long-awaited reunion. They will be at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh for three dates on Friday, August 8, Saturday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 12. And one fan has shown true allegiance to the Gallagher brothers with the purchase of the number plate for an eye-watering amount. It was reported last month that the plate was up for auction with experts correctly predicting it could sell for around £50,000. With a starting price of £500, 'OAS 1S' was just one of 2,000 plates ready to be snapped up. At the time, number plate superfan Neal Bircher, told msn that he wouldn't be surprised if Liam or Noel bid for the plate themselves. He said: "OAS 1S could go to the band, or someone associated with them, or a fan. 'It could on the other hand be bought for a different reason. 'Lots of businesses are called 'Oasis'. Whatever the case, the Oasis reunion concerts are going to boost interest in it, and probably boost the price as a result "I'd estimate the hammer price landing somewhere between £40,000 and £50,000, but as ever with auctions, anything can happen!" While the identity of the buyer remains an unknown, in 1998, rhythm guitarist, Bonehead reportedly purchased the 'OA15S' number plate for £20,000.
