Calvin Harris locked in furious plagiarism row with iconic Nineties DJ as he's accused of having an 'out of control ego that will ruin his career'

Calvin Harris is embroiled in a furious row with DJ Chicane over claims he 'copied' the star's iconic hit, Offshore. The Scottish hitmaker, 41 - who is set to welcome a child with wife Vick Hope - has been enjoying chart success lately with his hit, Blessings. Yet in a shock twist, Chicane - real name Nicholas Bracegirdle - claimed that the new single copies his 1996 classic Offshore, which spent eight weeks in the charts. Taking to TikTok, he released a two-minute video showing how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded the same as Blessings. He began by stating: 'I'm Nick Chicane and welcome to the video that I thought I would never have to make.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Chicane continued: 'This is my right to reply to all the comments online about the new Calvin Harris single Blessings' similarity to my 30-year old Offshore.' He went on to play the two singles on his music editing software before stating: 'It's really hard to decipher when one comes in and one goes, that is because they are almost identical. Chicane continued: 'I am defending my copyright and intellectual property here guys - I'd like to know what your comments are here guys. He said that the video was his ;right to reply' about comments he had received in regards to Calvin's new song sounding like his 30-year hit Offshore. He then showed viewers how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded exactly like Blessings. In response, Calvin filmed a video insisting he hadn't copied the track, which prompted a TikTok user to message Chicane, writing: 'Calvin Harris Reply video convinced me even more that he has copied. Chicane is the guy and the disrespect from Calvin is crazy.' Chicane responded: 'The disrespect was off the chart, guy is struggling with an out of control ego…. Kinda sad & hilarious to watch him ruin his career.' Calvin's eight-minute response video showed him playing the two singles in a bid to see which parts sounded the same. At various parts, he laughed and branded Nick 'stupid' as he insisted: 'it's not the same, it's not the f***ing same.' He captioned the post: 'Response to the people calling me a plagiarist over the last couple of days after that guys video, all the best.' Calvin then claimed in the comments that Chicane had actually used a sample in his song, writing: 'If you make it to the end you're rewarded with the track HE ripped off originally for his song.' When asked by a fan if he had sampled Tangerine Dream's Love On A Real Train in Offshore, Chicane responded on TikTok: 'Good question, not in the slightest….' MailOnline has contacted Calvin's representatives for comment. While Calvin has been busy defending himself against plagiarism claims he has also been preparing for fatherhood. His wife Vick, 35, is now on maternity leave but asked the Radio 1 Big Weekend crowd in Liverpool for baby name ideas on the weekend. Glowing Vick looked sensational as she showcased her blossoming bump in a vibrant figure hugging maxi dress with thigh-high split. Chatting with the audience, her co-host Jamie Laing said: 'Vick is about to go on maternity leave, and she wants some help with some baby names, so if you can shout some names to me'. As the huge crowd began screaming out suggestions a giggling Vick replied: 'Ok, I got it'. Vick and Calvin's baby is set to have an interesting start to life with the pair owning several homes, including a farm in Ibiza and a 10-acre estate in the Cotswolds. The couple are reported to be in the process of building a mansion on their Cotswolds estate, which is reported to become their main place of residence. They tied the knot in September 2023 and only just announced their impending arrival, choosing to keep their relationship largely out of the spotlight. Vick stressed on air that she didn't want to make a big deal out of her pregnancy. She said: 'This is not an announcement, by the way. People keep saying are you going to announce, are you going to announce? And I'm like, I'm not the King. 'I'll be honest, I struggle with anything that's personal or private. I will tell you a story about eating a kebab out of a bin, that's one thing. 'But there's a line and so I've never been that big on sharing. Particularly because I've just been enjoying this privately and quietly.'
