The nail colours that look outdated in summer 2025 - and the shades to pick instead
You know that feeling when you look down at your nails and think: 'They just look... wrong?' It's not chipped polish or a dodgy shape, it's just the colour. What looked chic in February is giving 'forgot to update for summer' by June.
You're not wrong: nail colour trends shift with the seasons, and this summer is all about bold, clean and feminine shades. So, if you're still clinging to your usual go-to like a safety blanket (my best friend considers going from Ferrari Red to Big Apple Red as a seismic change), here are the colours to have on rotation this season.
OUT: Glazed Donut Nails
IN: Almond Milk Nails
The pearly Glazed Donut sheen that once ruled TikTok (thanks Hailey Bieber) now feels a little too understated. A cuter neutral for summer is Almond Milk: cooler-toned and creamier, with more of a white than nude finish.
OUT: Butter Yellow
Soft, pastel yellows had their sunshine moment and are still dominating when it comes to clothes, but this summer's mani vibe is louder and bolder. Highlighter yellow is neon-bright, mood-lifting, and made for showing off against bronzed skin and beach towels. It's the type of thing you can only – and should only – rock in summer.
OUT: Deep Red
IN: Picante Red
Deep, rich reds are now the staple of grandmas – this summer it's getting nudged aside by something spicier. Picante red is lighter, warmer, and leans into orange territory, like a sun-drenched chilli or the perfect paprika. It's vibrant, fiery, and perfect for those
OUT: Classic French Polish
IN: Fresh White All-Over
The dainty French manicure has had its day. This season, it's all about committing to white. A full, opaque fresh white feels modern, confident and instantly summery, like a linen dress for your nails. Bonus: it makes even the faintest tan look golden.
OUT: Brat Green
IN: Tiffany Blue
Punchy, hyper-green had its wild moment (thanks, Charli XCX and the party girl renaissance), but summer 2025 is softening the mood. Tiffany Blue brings back Audrey Hepburn elegance – it's polished, playful, and says 'expensive' without shouting. Think martinis, not vodka shots.
OUT: Sparkly Shades
IN: Iridescent Finish
