India's Modi on two-day visit to Maldives as part of 'neighbourhood-first' policy
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the Maldives for a two-day visit. It's part of a decades-old "neighbourhood-first" policy — Delhi's approach to managing and prioritising relations with its immediate neighbours. This is Mr Modi's first trip to the Maldives since beginning his third term. Relations between the two South Asian countries have come under pressure, with the election of President Mohamed Muizzu in late 2023 on an explicit "India-out" agenda.
