I'm a 5'3' Frequent Flier, and the Petite Travel Pants I Always Pack Are on Sale

Whether you're schlepping through a busy airport or settling in for an hours-long train ride, dressing comfortably while on the move—be it by plane, train, or automobile—is imperative. I've always lived by this motto, but now, as a new mom of twins, prioritizing comfort takes on a whole new meaning, which is why I've stocked up on several pairs of the Spanx AirEssentials Tapered Pants. Loved by countless travelers—including yours truly—these always-sold-out pants are well worth the hype, especially now that they're on sale in black. While I love how comfortable my go-to leggings are, I prefer something a bit more polished for traveling. That way, I can hit the ground running wherever I go—be it a work meeting, a meal with friends, or a sightseeing tour—without having to stop somewhere and change. They're also incredibly versatile: I've worn them with everything from leather jackets and heeled booties to everyday tanks and tees with sneakers or slip-ons. What's especially great about these travel pants—and the entire Spanx AirEssentials collection—is their ultra-lightweight knit fabric. A mixture of modal, polyester, and elastane, this fabric is soft to the touch, drapes beautifully, and features a fantastic four-way stretch for unrestricted movement. It's also incredibly breathable, helping to keep you warm in cooler temperatures while remaining cool in the heat. I've worn them on freezing planes, in New York snowstorms, and in balmy Florida weather, and I was equally comfortable on all three occasions. The pants' drawcord waistband ensures a custom fit, and unlike most, the ties won't get tangled in the wash or dryer (I've worn and washed them at least 20 times, so I can confidently vouch for this). Plus, the waistband doesn't dig into the skin or cause irritation, a discomfort I've experienced from other brands many times over. While these pants aren't technically joggers, they do feature a tapered fit and ankle cuff detailing that gives them a jogger-like fit. I like to think of these pants as a more polished take on leggings and sweatpants, and I love that I can either match them with the brand's full-zip hoodie or half-zip sweatshirt or style them with my favorite tank or sweater. While these pants are hands down one of my favorites for travel, I'm also partial to the AirEssentials Wide Leg Pant, which offers a flowy, more relaxed vibe. I also recommend checking out the AirEssentials Jogger, which has elastic cuffs and a true jogger pant silhouette, especially now that they're on sale for $59. Even more Spanx travel pant options abound, including the widely-beloved Luxe Straight Leg Pant, which stands out for its ribbed trim and pintuck detailing, the Slim Flare Pant with Front Slit, which features a fashion-forward front slit, and the Brushed Jogger, which touts a sleek front seam and double button closure that can elevate any look. As of writing this, the Spanx AirEssentials Tapered Pants are available in four neutral hues and come in sizes XS to 3X, with straight, petite, and tall length options. Since I'm 5'3", I opted for the petite version, which hit perfectly at my ankle. The fit is slightly oversized, which I appreciated for comfort's sake, but if you prefer a more snug fit or are between sizes, consider sizing down. Looking for more travel-friendly pants to pack this season? Keep scrolling for even more options that are equal parts comfy and stylish, starting at just $18. Love a great deal? The 1 thing you should never do when you visit a new mom

Maybe don't offer to 'take the baby' the next time you visit a new mom. 'By offering to take my child, you're putting me in 'fight or flight' mode,' Chelsey Cox, a mom in South Carolina, tells Cox laid it out in an Instagram video, in which her five-month-old son sleeps on her chest. 'When you are going to a new mother's house, do not offer to take the baby,' Cox said in the video. 'Don't offer to babysit. Don't offer to take the baby nowhere. Don't offer to let her get some sleep while you watch the baby. Don't, don't, don't.' 'Nine times out of ten, I want to be with my baby — I don't want you to take the baby, OK?' Cox continued. 'You can wash these dishes, you can bring me something to eat ... No, don't offer to watch the baby. I'm going to need you to sweep, mop, vacuum, take the trash, bring me some goodies, give me something to eat, bring me some money. Cook me some soup ... bake me a cake.' Cox added, 'Don't offer to take this baby, because she is probably not going to let you do that until he is 19. And even then.' Instagram moms asked Cox to 'Say it louder for the mothers-in-law in the back,' writing these comments: 'Please offer to take the husband instead. Me and the baby are doing just fine.' 'YES. Please do everything else. Don't tell me that I can 'relax' now that you're holding the baby, while you sit there watching me clean with my baby in your arms.' 'Holding my baby is not helping.' 'Seriously ... I just grew this human for nine months and was gutted like a fish to get her out. I'm madly in love with her and I barely want you to touch her, let alone out of my eyesight.' 'This gives me so much anxiety when people say this because, 'Why do you want to take my baby away from me??'' 'If I send this to my family's group chat, it'll start a wildfire.' Cox tells that her son requires specific care, due to being born with health problems. 'Even without those challenges, I'm of the mindset, 'Let me keep my baby — I grew him, he's mine — and you can assist me with other things,' she says. Cox says she wants her loved ones to bond with her baby, adding, 'I also want you to see I am drowning,' as a postpartum mom. 'Bring me a meal,' she suggests. 'Clean my house for me. Do a load of laundry ... Some soup. A foot rub ... Not snatch the baby.' Cox says she recorded the Instagram video for new mothers that don't feel comfortable clarifying the help they need. 'People don't want to be rude or disrespectful or hurt anyone's feelings, so they often comply,' she says, adding, 'There are other ways to show that you're here for me and my baby.' Cox says her mother-in-law has it right. 'She is really good about asking, 'Do you need or want something?' and 'Can I send you anything?'" says Cox. 'If I need her to take my baby, she will.' Cox says visitors should let new mothers set the pace during postpartum visits. 'I want women to feel comfortable ... to say, 'Ask me what I need and I'll tell you,' says Cox. 'Don't assume what I need.'This article was originally published on

New mom is dealt shocking health blow just days after giving birth to baby boy

A new mom was thrown on an emotional rollercoaster ride when she received a devastating call from her doctor, diagnosing her with a rare form of cancer just days after giving birth to a baby boy. Lydia Dutcher, 29, gave birth to her son Theo on February 5, 2024, and despite an infection, the operation went smoothly. It wasn't until Valentine's Day that she received a call from her doctor notifying her of the unthinkable - she had a tumor on her placenta and was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma, a cancer that grows rapidly. 'I thought it would be about Theo's newborn screenings, never in a million years did I think she was calling to tell me I had cancer,' Dutcher told UW Health. Choriocarcinoma originates from abnormal cells in the placenta and can develop after a pregnancy. Since she had an infection while giving birth, her placenta was sent to a lab for testing, and doctors found the tumor. 'I'd learned about in medical school, but had never seen before,' her doctor, Danielle Hartwig recalled. Dutcher was stunned to hear the news, and her concern only grew when her doctor said there was limited information on her form of cancer. The new mom recalled to PEOPLE that her doctor told her, 'I've been researching it. I don't know really what the next steps are going to be.' 'I just remember my heart dropping. I honestly thought I was going to die,' Dutcher said. Adding to her growing concerns, her son Theo was also at risk of the diagnosis. Hartwig said it's rare for cancer to spread to an unborn child, but not impossible. The next step was to see if Theo had abnormal hormone levels by giving him a pregnancy test. 'If an infant boy shows hormone levels that only come from a placenta, it's a sure sign he also has tumor growth that stemmed from the choriocarcinoma,' Hartwig explained. Dutcher was relieved to find her son didn't contract her cancer, but the road to her recovery was still just getting started. Dutcher's doctors worried that her cancer had spread beyond her placenta. She underwent a CT scan, a brain MRI, and an ultrasound to determine her treatment plan. Her gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Lisa Barroilhet, found spots on her lungs, and Dutcher was diagnosed with Stage 3 choriocarcinoma. Choriocarcinoma often spreads through the blood to the lungs, but can be treated with chemotherapy, according to Barroilhet. The same month that Dutcher gave birth, she headed back to the hospital to begin a 10-week regimen of intravenous chemotherapy. Her maternity leave looked a lot different from what she had pictured, with grueling chemotherapy sessions and frequent overnight stays at the hospital. 'From the early newborn days to starting chemotherapy, those first months with Theo were a blur, but the experience made me appreciate my life and being a mom that much more,' Dutcher recalled. 'I felt such amazing support from my husband, our parents, our family and friends,' she continued. On April 23, Dutcher announced on social media that she was preparing for her last chemo infusion. 'This is the best news ever, I'm so ready to be done. Life is going to get so so so much better and I'm here to stay,' she wrote in an Instagram post. A few weeks ago, Dutcher celebrated her one-year anniversary of being cancer free and her second Mother's Day with Theo. She told UW Health that she was grateful for the community she found during her cancer journey and support from her loved ones, including her husband, Matthew. 'And I also found community with a few people online who've experienced this, so I hope to be that support for others,' Dutcher added. 'I've learned so much about myself and what really matters.' The family has a GoFundMe account to help alleviate the burden of Dutcher's medical bills.
