Moment BBC News star makes bizarre peacock noises live on air – two years after middle finger gaffe
BBC News star Maryam Moshiri has left viewers stunned once again after her latest bizarre on-air stunt. The popular news presenter is best known for accidentally displaying her middle finger live during a news bulletin two years ago. 4 4 The unfortunate gaffe propelled her to viral stardom and she has now become well-known for her unusual antics whilst broadcasting. Now, she has struck again - this time displaying peacock noises live on her show, The World Today with Maryam Moshiri. The 47-year-old TV presenter made the noises shortly after a news package about a disruptive peacock causing chaos in one local village. As Maryam came back into vision in the studio, she revealed how her producer had banned her from impersonating the said peacock. Not one to be stopped, Maryam went ahead and made the sounds of a peacock anyway before moving swiftly onto the next item. The telly favourite said: "I've been told specifically from my producer to not do an impression of a peacock so I'm going to do it anyway." Maryam then proceeded to squawk to replicate the bird. Seconds later she said: "There we go, how amazing is that." Moshiri has become known for her on air gaffes, as in December 2023 her 'viral' moment came after camera began rolling and she didn't realise she was on air as she pulled faces and made a swearing hand gesture to her colleagues. Apologising on Twitter/X, Maryam told followers: "Hey everyone , yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery. Story behind BBC newsreader's middle finger gaffe revealed as extended clip is leaked online "I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. "So from 10 fingers held up to one. "When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera. "It was a private joke with the team and I'm so sorry it went out on air!" Despite the error, the BBC backed the star and even handed her her very own show on the BBC News channel. Some of her other infamous moments include being caught bending a spoon live on air, imitating a bird as part of a report on seagulls, forgetting she was live on air for a Eurovision special and being shouted at for attempting to expose a tattoo on her hip. 4 4
