Janhvi Kapoor misses Sridevi as she returns to Cannes with Homebound: ‘I'm back with a film but without my mom'
Janhvi Kapoor is currently at the Cannes Film Festival, for the world premiere of her latest film Homebound. The movie, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, also stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. While this marks Janhvi's debut at Cannes with a film, the actor has visited the French city multiple times in the past with her late mother and legendary actor Sridevi.
In a recent interaction, Janhvi reflected on the bittersweet feeling of returning to Cannes — a place filled with memories of her mother — while also celebrating the milestone of bringing a film to the prestigious festival. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Janhvi said, 'I would spend a lot of time here with mom. We spent a lot of summers here and because it is such a big deal my dad (Boney Kapoor) and my sister (Khushi Kapoor) have accompanied me. This is the first time all three of us are back together at Cannes with a film but without my mom. So, when there is some calm in the middle of the chaos, my mind often wonders there but it's all very happy and there is a lot to process.'
Janhvi Kapoor also spoke to Vogue India about revisiting her mother's favourite holiday destination without her. She shared how emotionally significant the trip is for her, saying, 'You know this place was my mom's favourite place to come to for a holiday. We spent 3-4 consecutive summers here. It was like a big thing with us as a family. Every time mom would do something, every time she was getting an award, or her movie (was getting screened somewhere)… I remember 'nglish Vinglish premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, or when dad was shooting somewhere… All of these big life moments. We would be together as a family and experience them together and celebrate.'
Janhvi Kapoor made her Cannes debut in a blush pink Tarun Tahiliani couture, with many fans drawing parallels to Sridevi's iconic looks and suggesting that the actor paid tribute to her mother through her ensemble.
Homebound at Cannes
The Neeraj Ghaywan-directed Homebound received a nine-minute standing ovation at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it was screened in the Un Certain Regard segment. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with none other than Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese serving as the executive producer.
