Jersey Shore town reduces speed limit for entire community to make roads safer
Drivers in Asbury Park will have to slow down, as a new citywide 25 mph speed limit is now in effect. Main Street and Memorial Drive will see their speed limits drop from 30 mph to 25 mph, the city announced Monday. All other streets in the city already had 25 mph speed limits. The Main Street signage was installed earlier this month, and Memorial Drive will see updated signage soon. 'We appreciate the partnership and support of the Monmouth County Commissioners and County representatives in working with us to make this change,' said Mayor John Moor. 'This collaboration is helping us make our roads safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike—improving quality of life for our residents and enhancing the experience for visitors.' The city said the change would create a safer city for pedestrians and bikers, and that it 'encourages exploration of local businesses and parks.' Asbury Park is not the first municipality in New Jersey to adopt a lower, pedestrian-friendly speed limit. Hoboken has a 20 mph limit, and Metuchen has its limit set to 25 mph borough-wide. Would you sell your kidney to see a concert? This fest gives you the option.
How badly do you want to go to a music festival? Would you give up an organ to get a ticket? Sweden's Way Out West festival might have an option for you. The music festival is set to take place Thursday to Satursday in Gothenburg, Sweden, with acts such as Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Iggy Pop, Kneecap, and more. Tickets are already sold out, but if you're willing to donate a kidney, you can snag one. 'This year, tickets to Way Out West sold out earlier than ever,' the festival's website explains. 'With no tickets left, the FOMO kicks in hard. People start saying they'd give up just about anything to get one. One phrase you often hear when tickets are gone? 'I'd give a kidney for a ticket.'' The Kidney Pass allows people over the age of 18 who have a Swedish social security number to sign up for the donation registry. You could then give your consent to allow your organs to be donated upon your death. 'By joining it, you're not just saying you'd give a kidney for a ticket, you're showing you truly support organ donation – by being willing to donate your organs after your death,' the festival states. Signing up for the donation registry doesn't mean you're committed to staying in. The ability exists to change preferences or remove your registration altogether. As a disclaimer, Way Out West notes, 'registration does not guarantee a ticket' because only a limited amount are available. However, if you do, you get to say you literally gave your kidney for a ticket. '90s sitcom star threatened with fat jokes if she didn't lose weight for hit show, she says
Kim Coles, best known for her role on 'Living Single,' recently revealed writers pressured her to lose weight during the show's run. Coles, 63, opened up about the situation on a recent episode of the 'ReLiving Single' podcast with former co-star Erika Alexander. 'I would get a call at the beginning of every season to my manager saying, 'Kim Coles has to lose some weight. She has to lose some weight. She has to lose some weight,'' Coles said in the Wednesday episode. The actress recounted an instance where show executives threatened they'd start writing fat jokes into the hit show's script if Coles didn't lose weight. 'You won't remember this, but I told you that they threatened me and said, 'If you keep gaining weight, we're going to have to start writing fat jokes.' And you said, 'I won't read those jokes,'' Coles said to Alexander. The two actresses recalled a weight joke being written into a season one episode and said co-star Queen Latifah made it clear to show runners and cast members that the fat jokes trend would not continue in later seasons. 'Living Single' ran for five season from 1993 to 1998 on FOX. The show was centered around six 20-somethings living in a Brooklyn brownstone. Popular singer scolds fan for bringing baby to concert. ‘Protect his ears or something.'
Colombian music star Maluma stopped a recent concert to call out a fan who brought their infant to the show. The musician paused his show in Mexico City over the weekend to point out a fan holding a baby in the crowd. The rapper and singer then scolded the concert attendee for not properly preparing the young child for the hubbub of the show. 'With all due respect… how old are they? A year old? Less?" Maluma asked in Spanish, according to a translation by Variety. 'Do you think it's a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are f------ high, where the sound is super loud?' Footage of the music star's concert interruption has since gone viral. 'Next time, protect their ears or something. For real. It's heavy. It's your responsibility. You're waving them around like they're a toy. That baby doesn't want to be there, for real,' Maluma said. 'I'm telling you with all love and respect, now that I'm a father… would never bring them to a concert. For the next time, be a bit more aware.' Maluma welcomed his first child, Paris, into the world in March 2024 with his girlfriend Susana Gómez. The show was one of three dates in Mexico City as part of the +Pretty +Dirty tour. The tour will continue through August. 23 with three more shows in Mexico and one in El Salvador.
