Centre grants one-year extension to Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi
CHANDIGARH: The Union Government has given Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, a 1990 batch IAS officer, a one-year extension. Sources said that this decision was conveyed by the Department of Personnel and Training to the Haryana government on Thursday. Rastogi, who retires on June 30, was granted an extension sought by the BJP-led Haryana Government. The extension will be effective from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. It is learnt that with his extension, the hopes of four officers from the 1990 batch, Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Misra, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Shekhar Vundru, and five officers from the 1991 batch, Vineet Garg, Anil Malik, G Anupama, A K Singh and Abhilaksh Likhi, who were in contention for the coveted post, have been dashed. Sources said that as per the gradation list of Haryana IAS officers, Sudhir Rajpal of the 1990 batch is the senior-most as per inter-se seniority, followed by Sumita Misra, Anurag Rastogi, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Sekhar Vundru. However, Rastogi got the benefit of a 'seniority-related dispute' among the 1990 batch officers. Earlier, certain 1990 batch officers had moved an application against their fellow batchmates Rajpal and Misra, as they had originally been allocated non-Haryana cadres and later joined the Haryana cadre. However, Rajpal and Misra are still at number one and two in the gradation list, as there has been no decision yet on the petition against them. Rastogi currently holds the third position in the gradation list of Haryana IAS officers.

Lathi charge on students: Won't engage in talks till VC quits & officials are arrested: HAU students
Students at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, continued their protest for the ninth straight day on Wednesday, refusing to engage in talks with a three-member committee formed by vice-chancellor BR Kamboj. The committee, led by the university's director of research, Rajbir Garg, visited the protest site at gate number 4 and urged students to begin a dialogue. However, the students firmly stated they would not hold discussions until two university officials are arrested and vice-chancellor Kamboj resigns over the alleged lathi charge on protesting students on June 10. During the interaction, students accused the administration of attempting to divide them along caste and regional lines, but maintained that they remain united. 'The university administration wrote to the Hisar deputy commissioner accusing 19 students of preventing others from taking exams and forcing them to join the protest. This is a clear attempt at divisive politics directed by the vice-chancellor,' a student representative said. Students also questioned the committee about several incidents from the night of June 10, including why security guards allegedly assaulted a student, why the campus lights were turned off during their protest outside the VC's residence, and why senior officials like the registrar and the chief security officer were seen chasing demonstrators. A female student alleged that hostel lights, which usually go off at 7.30 pm, were turned off earlier that night and that some faculty members have been calling girl students for talks as late as 11 pm. In a letter to the Haryana chief secretary, the students accused 18 faculty members of harassment, intimidation, and discriminatory behavior during the protests. 'Faculty members are trying to divide students into Haryana and non-Haryana groups. Male staff visiting girls' hostels at night has created an environment of fear and psychological distress,' the letter read. Committee head Rajbir Garg acknowledged that the students were upset and said the committee would return on Thursday to resume talks. 'This deadlock must end for the university to function smoothly,' Garg said, adding that 153 students had taken their exams on Wednesday, and 120 MSc and PhD students carried out research work. He alleged that 'some anti-social elements' were trying to exploit the protest, but did not specify how many students had skipped the exams that began on June 16. Meanwhile, former Hisar MP and Congress leader Brijendra Singh visited the protest site and extended his support to the students. 'Such an attack on students cannot happen without the VC's knowledge,' he said, adding that he has informed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the matter and that the party will raise the issue in Parliament.

Hry residents should have 1st right to state jobs: Hooda
Chandigarh: Former chief minister and senior Congress leader on Tuesday said Haryana residents should have the first right to the state's jobs. Hooda questioned if all other states give priority to locals in their jobs, why Haryana's BJP govt does not do so. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said the youth of Haryana needed jobs the most, as Haryana had the highest number of unemployed youth. It is No. 1 state in the country in terms of unemployment, he said. The senior leader accused the BJP of moving ahead with a policy that completely deprives youth of jobs. He claimed that rules were being deliberately made for govt recruitments that benefit the youth of other states. "The recent recruitment of assistant engineers in the irrigation department is a clear example of this. It is surprising that in this recruitment, 28 people from other states were given jobs in 42 posts of the general category. It is highly condemnable as 70% of the HPSC jobs are given to non-Haryana residents," claimed Hooda. The former CM mentioned that this injustice was earlier meted out to the local youth in many recruitments, from the SDO and the BDPO to the lecturers. Hooda also lamented that the general knowledge related to Haryana had been completely eliminated from the syllabus of the assistant environmental engineer recruitment by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). Not only this, the HPSC has also given permission to those candidates to apply for the HCS exam who do not have a Haryana domicile, he added. "Civil Judge recruitment was done in which outside candidates were recruited on 60 out of 110 posts. In the technical education department, outsiders were selected on 106 out of 153 posts of the general category," he said. Hooda recalled that the BJP had come to power for the third time in Haryana by promising to give 2 lakh permanent jobs, but no process had been started for recruitments so far. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The govt is not even able to conduct the CET. Meanwhile, when the results of the few recruitments that are already pending are released, there are more people from other states than Haryana. This is a direct attack on the future of the youth of the state. The Congress will oppose this at every level," he said. MSID:: 120733326 413 |
