A trade proposal to land Derrick White with the Golden State Warriors
A trade proposal to land Derrick White with the Golden State Warriors Finding ways to improve the current roster will undoubtedly be a top priority for the Golden State Warriors' front office this summer. The addition of Jimmy Butler, while highly impactful, wasn't enough to ensure the franchise was among the genuine contenders in a loaded Western Conference. In a recent appearance on "The Zach Lowe Show," Logan Murdoch of The Ringer cited Derrick White as a potential target for the Warriors. White has been one of the Celtics best player for the past few seasons. However, with Jayson Tatum likely to miss the entire 2025-26 season due to an Achilles tear, Brad Stevens is expected to make some cost cutting moves. 'Another guy that I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White,' Murdock said. 'A guy like that I think is something that the Warriors are looking at right now because Boston is expected in league circles to have some sort of fire sale or some sort of maybe reset… Just somebody that can play defense and kind of just settle everyone down. Especially when you have a young group like that, you need to settle them down in the non-Steph [Curry] minutes, so that's something to figure out.' Following Murdoch's comments, Warriors Wire has pieced together what a potential trade package could look like: Celtics Get: Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield, Trayce Jackson-Davis, a 2027 first-round pick (lottery protected) Warriors Get: Derrick White As the Celtics are a second-apron luxury tax team, they're unable to aggregate salaries via a trade. As such, White can be the only player heading out of the door, unless the return allows Boston to escape the second apron. Therefore, if the Warriors wish to keep Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Butler, a move for White would be somewhat of a consolidation. It's also worth noting that the above trade proposal passes the rigorous trade machine test over on Spotrac. Hield makes considerable sense for Boston. Joe Mazzulla's team leads the league in 3-point volume and would welcome another elite sniper. At the same time, Jackson-Davis could emerge as a long-term solution to Al Horford, who may or may not return for another season. For Golden State, White would be an ideal two-guard next to Curry. He defends at an elite level, rarely makes the wrong read, and can hit the three of both the catch and the dribble. If the Celtics decide to part ways with the former San Antonio Spurs product, Golden State should certainly make its interest known. Unfortunately, White is likely viewed as untouchable by the franchise, with Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis potentially more available.

Jimmy Butler transforms Warriors from SLOPPY to SLEEK
On this episode of The Big Number, Tom Haberstroh & Dan Devine dive deep into the seismic shift in the Golden State Warriors' performance since Jimmy Butler's arrival. From being one of the sloppiest teams in the NBA to now leading the league in free throws made with fewer turnovers than ever, Butler has reshaped the Warriors into a mistake-free juggernaut. The pair break down his impressive individual stats, including how he's driving efficiency on both ends without dominating the ball, and what his presence has done to increase Steph Curry's scoring, pushing him to one of his most efficient stretches ever. Could Butler's addition be the missing piece to a Warriors' NBA title run? Tom & Dan also take a close look at how the Warriors have adjusted in non-Steph minutes, with Jimmy's impressive numbers filling the gap when Curry sits, and discuss the effectiveness of their new small-ball lineup. Plus, the impact of Jonathan Kuminga's potential return and how his presence could further bolster Golden State's depth as they head into the postseason. With Butler's impact stretching from offense to defense, could this midseason trade go down as one of the best in NBA history? How Warriors' seven-minute non-Steph stretch fueled win vs. Kings
How Warriors' seven-minute non-Steph stretch fueled win vs. Kings originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area SACRAMENTO – Another night in the record books for Steph Curry. The Warriors' superstar finished with 20 points Friday night, marking the 700th time in his career he has reached that number, becoming the first to achieve the milestone in franchise history. Only 21 players have done so ever, and just four current players – Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and James Harden. Yet it was those around Curry who led to the Warriors' dominant 132-106 win against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center. 'I thought Steph was brilliant in the first half,' Steve Kerr said after the win. 'He was 2 for 3, and you don't see that very often where he only gets three shots in a half, but he had six assists and no turnovers and controlled the game.' Kings interim coach Doug Christie's game plan was clear from the opening tip: Anybody but Curry. The Kings were picking him up full court and forcing the ball out of Curry's hands. But instead of forcing the issue, Curry played in the flow of the game and continuously made smart decisions. He took only one shot in the first quarter – a made 3-pointer – and two in the second, missing a three but making a running layup. When Curry went to the bench near the end of the first quarter, the 2:32 mark to be exact, the Warriors led by three points, 26-23, but then missed their next five shot attempts. A Zach LaVine three with a minute and a half left in the first frame tied it up, and two free throws by Jonas Valanciunas gave the Kings a two-point lead. But in the final 33 seconds of the quarter, a Buddy Hield three at the top of the arc and a Brandin Podziemski layup gave the Warriors a three-point lead again going into the second. Jimmy intercepts ➡️ Podz scores 🙂↕️ — Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) February 22, 2025 Then came the start of the second quarter, where the non-Steph minutes became even more important. And his teammates didn't let him down one bit. 'Well, Quinten came in and knocked down three threes right away,' Kerr remembered. Warriors rookie center Quinten Post didn't see the floor in the first quarter but was on the court to start the second and made an immediate impact. The 7-footer hit back-to-back 3-pointers two minutes into the second quarter, pushing the Warriors' lead to nine points on his first make and 10 points on his second. Within the first five minutes of the second quarter, Post scored nine points on a perfect 3 of 3 from deep. Friday night marked Post's 18th game in the NBA, but a special first for him. His father, Arjen, was able to travel from the Netherlands to watch his son play in the NBA for the first time. How much does that mean to the 25-year-old? His answer was immediate. 'Everything, man,' Post said to NBC Sports Bay Area in the locker room. 'Ever since I got drafted he hasn't been able to come over. … It means a lot. He played himself, he's the reason why I started playing.' Post did all he could to stay in the moment, keeping his mind solely on the game. Just 15 seconds after Post made his third 3-pointer, the Kings called a timeout. That's when all the memories came back. The practices. The sacrifice. The dedication. The dream. 'You're just like, 'Oh, this is awesome that he's here seeing this little spurt,' ' Post said. Quinten Post CAN'T MISS 🔥 — Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) February 22, 2025 The combination of Podziemski, Post, Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green played the first five minutes and eight seconds of the second quarter. They were a plus-14, outscoring the Kings 22-8, giving the Warriors a 53-36 lead – all with Curry on the bench. At one point during the avalanche that saw Warriors fans take over the road crowd, Curry was slated to come back in but Kerr rode the hot hand. 'That group was on a run,' Kerr said. 'We sent Steph back and waited until after the timeout to bring him back in, bought him an extra minute and let that group go.' The deciding factor for so long has been how the Warriors can play not with Curry on the court, but with him on the bench. Staying afloat is a win. Being a plus-14 in a seven-minute stretch affords a parade down Market Street. Post scored nine points in that span, followed by seven from Podziemski, five from Moody, three by Butler and another three by Hield. The Warriors were an even zero in the 31 minutes Curry played, and a plus-26 overall in the 17 minutes he watched from the bench. Curry still is the head of the snake. If fangs can be formed around him, the Warriors can be a dangerous team in the final seven weeks of the regular season, ready to rattle the basketball world. Download and follow the Dubs Talk Podcast

Warriors test another lineup vs. Rockets, and it might be their best
Warriors test another lineup vs. Rockets, and it might be their best originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area The Warriors played their 55th game of the 2024-25 NBA season Thursday night in Houston, where coach Steve Kerr unveiled his 33rd different starting lineup and decided he's going to ride it for the foreseeable future. We should assume, however, that it is subject to change because he has uttered such declarations several times this season. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are and will remain the constants. In lineup No. 33 against the Rockets, they were joined by Moses Moody, who is undefeated (7-0) as a starter, and Brandin Podziemski, who replaced Buddy Hield, whose greatest value this season has been as a decoy. Kerr's reasoning is sound, the decision worked well enough to carve out a 105-98 victory at Toyota Center. 'We felt like it was the right time to do it,' Kerr told reporters in Houston. 'Brandin has played so well the last couple weeks that I think he needs to be in that starting group now. He gives Steph another ball handler and decision-maker. He makes a lot of plays out of nothing with his brain and his skill.' The new lineup brought an early spark that was impressive considering the Warriors played late into Wednesday evening in a loss at Dallas and didn't arrive at their hotel in Houston until 3:30 a.m. To go up nine after one quarter and push the lead to 16 early in the second was testimony to their collective desire. As has happened many times this season, though, was a night when the best and worst of the Warriors was on display. They built a 24-point lead with four minutes left in the third quarter and then a familiar wall, one that tends to materialize whenever Curry leaves the game for a few minutes. That wall led them to Butler, with Kerr immediately announcing that Butler will play 'all of the non-Steph minutes.' Kerr, perhaps concerned about his exhausted veterans, took a risk and got burned. With Curry, Butler and Green all on the bench, Golden State tried a lineup with Kevon Looney, Gui Santos, Pat Spencer, Hield and Podziemski. The offense died, the defense went to pieces and the Rockets started rolling toward a 32-10 run that put them within two (91-89) with 6:03 remaining. It was Curry, Butler and Green, the team's most battle-scarred vets, that showed the way to victory, accounting for all 12 points over the decisive last four minutes, Green draining a triple that put the lead at nine with 47 seconds remaining. 'We let one get away last night, but this one tonight we would have lost,' Green said. 'But just having a guy like [Butler] changes everything for us.' Butler fills a role this team needs. He offers such tangibles as getting to the free-throw line, defensive anticipation that leads to steals and getting buckets out of the low post. He brings a truck full of intangibles, the most notable being presence. It's hard to quantify, but it's easy to feel and see. 'We have to learn how to close games,' Kerr said. 'We have not done that well, and we didn't do it well last night, obviously. So that was an important game for us. We think Jimmy's presence and skill are going to allow us to finish games much better than we have so far this year. Tonight was a good example of that and hopefully a sign of things to come.' Butler finished with 19 points (13 in the second half), eight rebounds and four assists. Curry totaled a game-high 27 points, adding five rebounds and three assists. Green had 13 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals. He played 30 minutes, while Curry and Butler each played 35. And, to think, the decision to make them available came after consultation with the medical and training staffs. All three of the 30-somethings seemed to gain energy from their younger partners in the starting lineup. Podziemski scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half, with Moody scoring all 10 of his points – along with two blocks and a steal – before intermission. Podziemski, for now, will be the initial point-of-attack defender. He, along with Moody and Butler, limited Houston star Jalen Green to nine points on 3-of-10 shooting while committing four turnovers in 22 minutes. 'It was so good to get him out there,' Kerr said. 'I imagine he's going to be out there now as a starter for a while, obviously with Steph, Jimmy and Draymond. I thought Moses complimented those guys really well, too. 'We'll see how it goes from here. We've got [Jonathan Kuminga] coming back, hopefully within a couple of weeks, and so we always have options. But I think BP has got to be out there.' Will Kerr's latest lineup be the one that pulls the Warriors out of their prolonged mediocrity? It's a blend of youth and experience, with all five players owning multiple skills. It's built for speed, which has been difficult to maintain but would seem to be beneficial. On a night when Kerr learned a hard lesson – never rest Curry and Butler together unless the game is decided – it was apparent that lineup No. 33 is worth an extended audition.
