Udupi diocese hands over house to family
Udupi: The Udupi Diocese inaugurated a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing housing for underprivileged families lacking their own homes. This ambitious project is a key component of the diocese's preparations for the upcoming General Jubilee Year 2025, a significant milestone for the Catholic Church. The first tangible outcome of this initiative was witnessed on Sunday with the formal handover of a newly constructed house, christened 'Ark of Hope', to the family of Vinod and Angeline Pinto, within the jurisdiction of the Thottam St Anne's Church. The Pinto family, burdened by persistent financial constraints, was residing in rented accommodation. Their plight resonated deeply within the parish community, prompting a concerted effort involving the parish council, generous donors, and the Michael D'Souza Charity Trust to realise their dream. Through this collaborative endeavour, a fully furnished house, estimated at Rs 13 lakh, was constructed. The realisation of this project was further facilitated by the donation of five cents of land by Thomas and Valeriana Noronha. The construction process was expedited, and the house was completed in a five-month timeframe. Agriculture Recognising the pivotal role of agriculture in India's economy, the budget has introduced several farmer-centric initiatives. A significant increase in the allocation to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will ensure timely financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Additionally, the government has expanded the scope of the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund to modernise cold storage, warehouses, and food processing units, thereby reducing post-harvest losses. A citizen-driven approach, "Jan Bhagidhari," will play a pivotal role in achieving universal coverage. Additionally, state-level agreements will be implemented to ensure financial sustainability and long-term success. Bharatnet Project The Bharatnet Project will further expand internet connectivity in rural India, ensuring that all government secondary schools and primary health centres gain access to broadband services. This initiative is expected to enhance educational resources and healthcare facilities, bridging the digital divide in remote areas. India Post: A key driver of rural economy India Post, with its extensive network of 1.5 lakh rural post offices and 2.4 lakh DakSevaks, will be leveraged to boost economic growth in rural areas. Through India Post Payments Bank, it will offer micro-enterprise credit, digital services, and institutional financial solutions. Additionally, India Post will transform into a major logistics provider, supporting entrepreneurs, small businesses (MSMEs), and self-help groups. Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme A multi-sectoral "Rural Prosperity and Resilience" initiative will be launched in partnership with states to address underemployment in agriculture. By promoting skill development, adopting modern technology, and facilitating targeted investments, this programme aims to strengthen the rural economy. Special attention will be given to empowering women, young farmers, marginalised communities, and landless households, ensuring that migration is an option rather than a necessity. King Charles and Queen Camilla to Meet Pope Francis on Historic Trip to Italy
When King Charles completed his tour of Australia and Samoa last year, a royal source said that they were looking towards a normal schedule of overseas visits in 2025. Traditionally held once every 25 years, the Jubilee is a special year for the Catholic Church; a year of walking together as 'Pilgrims of Hope'. During Their Majesties' State Visit to the Republic of Italy, The King and Queen will undertake engagements in Rome and Ravenna, celebrating the strong bilateral relationship between Italy and the United Kingdom.' There are currently no specific dates or further details of the program available. The Palace said they will be announced in due course. This is the King's first visit to Italy and to the Vatican City as monarch. However, he traveled to Italy 17 times and the Holy See 5 times as Prince Charles. Previous trips to Italy include a visit with Princess Diana in 1985 where the couple took a gondola along the Grand Canal in Venice. Charles and Camilla last visited Italy together in 2017 when they spent six days traveling across Rome, Florence, Naples and the Vatican City. Ahead of April's tour, the King and Queen will join guests including Italian-American actor Stanley Tucci and Italy's Ambassador to the UK Inigo Lambertini for a UK-Italy dinner at Highgrove. The Palace said that the dinner, which will take place Friday, will be a celebration of slow food and slow fashion. 'The menu for the evening has been created by world-renowned Chef, Francesco Mazzei and inspired by Italian-American actor Stanley Tucci, host of Tucci - The Heart of Italy.' Buckingham Palace said in a statement. 'Created using entirely British ingredients blended with Italian culinary traditions and local flavours, the menu aims to fully embody the principles of Slow Food. Drinks for the evening will be created by internationally recognised Italian mixologist, Mr Alessandro Palazzi using Italian flavours and herbs foraged from Highgrove Gardens.' King and Queen to celebrate anniversary on major trip to Italy and Vatican
The King and Queen are set to spend their 20th wedding anniversary on a state trip to Italy and the Vatican. Buckingham Palace confirmed the couple will be heading on a major spring tour in early April, as Charles, 76, forges ahead with regular overseas trips this year as he adapts to living with cancer. They will meet Pope Francis at the Vatican and celebrate the Catholic Church's Pilgrims of Hope jubilee year. The couple will attend the Holy See, the government of the Roman Catholic Church, which is located in the Vatican – the smallest independent state in the world which is surrounded by Rome and is the residence of the spiritual leadership of the Roman Catholic Church. In Italy, the couple will visit Rome and the northeastern city of Ravenna, known for its early Christian mosaic artwork. The intention for the monarch to go on more overseas trips in 2025 emerged at the end of the King's long-haul visit to Australia and Samoa, which was described as the 'perfect tonic' for the monarch. In October last year, a palace official said: 'We're now working on a pretty normal looking full overseas tour programme for next year, which is a high for us to end on, to know that we can be thinking in those terms.' The King 'genuinely loved' the tour and 'genuinely thrived' on the Australian and Samoan programme, said the official, as it lifted 'his spirits, his mood and his recovery. Maintaining a work schedule after his diagnosis has been an important part of Charles's holistic approach to his cancer, and during the trip he maintained a busy schedule for the benefit of 'mind and soul' while a doctor accompanied him on the trip. The latest tour announcement comes the week after Charles travelled to Poland for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Charles has been determined to return to his full duties after he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last year. Before the state visit in April, the King and Queen will join Hollywood star Stanley Tucci for a black tie dinner celebrating Italian cuisine at Highgrove on Friday evening. The pair have invited the Italian-American Devil Wears Prada actor and well-known foodie, alongside Italian ambassador to the UK Inigo Lambertini, to Charles's Gloucestershire estate to enjoy a feast of sustainable 'Slow Food', an initiative which promotes local and traditional cuisine. The menu has been created by renowned Italian chef Francesco Mazzei and inspired by Tucci, who fronted the TV series Tucci – The Heart of Italy.
