King and Queen to celebrate anniversary on major trip to Italy and Vatican
The King and Queen are set to spend their 20th wedding anniversary on a state trip to Italy and the Vatican.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the couple will be heading on a major spring tour in early April, as Charles, 76, forges ahead with regular overseas trips this year as he adapts to living with cancer.
They will meet Pope Francis at the Vatican and celebrate the Catholic Church's Pilgrims of Hope jubilee year.
The couple will attend the Holy See, the government of the Roman Catholic Church, which is located in the Vatican – the smallest independent state in the world which is surrounded by Rome and is the residence of the spiritual leadership of the Roman Catholic Church.
In Italy, the couple will visit Rome and the northeastern city of Ravenna, known for its early Christian mosaic artwork.
The intention for the monarch to go on more overseas trips in 2025 emerged at the end of the King's long-haul visit to Australia and Samoa, which was described as the 'perfect tonic' for the monarch.
In October last year, a palace official said: 'We're now working on a pretty normal looking full overseas tour programme for next year, which is a high for us to end on, to know that we can be thinking in those terms.'
The King 'genuinely loved' the tour and 'genuinely thrived' on the Australian and Samoan programme, said the official, as it lifted 'his spirits, his mood and his recovery.
Maintaining a work schedule after his diagnosis has been an important part of Charles's holistic approach to his cancer, and during the trip he maintained a busy schedule for the benefit of 'mind and soul' while a doctor accompanied him on the trip.
The latest tour announcement comes the week after Charles travelled to Poland for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Charles has been determined to return to his full duties after he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last year.
Before the state visit in April, the King and Queen will join Hollywood star Stanley Tucci for a black tie dinner celebrating Italian cuisine at Highgrove on Friday evening.
The pair have invited the Italian-American Devil Wears Prada actor and well-known foodie, alongside Italian ambassador to the UK Inigo Lambertini, to Charles's Gloucestershire estate to enjoy a feast of sustainable 'Slow Food', an initiative which promotes local and traditional cuisine.
The menu has been created by renowned Italian chef Francesco Mazzei and inspired by Tucci, who fronted the TV series Tucci – The Heart of Italy.

SailGP rides rising tide with celebrity owners, brands
NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) - With new celebrity owners and a bevy of fresh sponsors, SailGP hopes to harness a wave of popularity and take the global sailing championship to the next level as it steers back to New York City to race for a third time this weekend. SailGP announced actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as new owners of Australia's three-time champion team on Thursday, just as the ink was drying on the team's first title sponsor deal with BONDS. Reynolds led beleaguered soccer side Wrexham out of obscurity and into the English second-tier Championship with an injection of marketing wizardry, cash and a popular docu-series that quickly converted legions of American fans. SailGP is hoping for their Wrexham moment, too. "The fact that we can get that sort of involvement in one of the teams is amazing, and they'll have some fun with it too, which is what it's all about," Russell Coutts, the former Olympic champion who co-founded the league, told Reuters. It was the kind of news to which fans have become accustomed, as the operation co-founded by billionaire Larry Ellison catches fire with A-listers and snares more big-name brands six years after its launch. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway joined a female-led consortium that acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team last week, while the competition itself named Rolex its title sponsor in November. More than 200,000 ticketholders watched SailGP events last year, as the league reported strong growth in social media engagement, snaring younger fans. The competition expanded to 12 teams for season five, with the addition of Brazil and Italy, and announced its new docuseries last month, part of a new content development push. "We had so many sort of naysayers out there saying this is like another sailing league, it'll be gone in two years, people have tried this and done it before, it never works and SailGP has totally broken down those boundaries," said Tom Slingsby, the CEO and driver for the Australian team. "You're starting to see really big brands come in and spend money in our sport," said Mike Buckley, the CEO and strategist for the U.S. SailGP team. "We're on everybody's radar now." Buckley put his money where his mouth is in 2023, helping lead a group of investors in the purchase of the U.S. team, locking in early for the league that hopes to become the "F1 of sailing". According to California Penal Code 314(1), indecent exposure is defined as "when a person exposes his or her naked body or genitals in front of anyone who could be annoyed or offended by it." It also stipulates that the act must be "willful and lewd" to be considered a crime. To be found guilty, a person must "intentionally expose your genitals or naked body; expose yourself in front of someone who might be offended or annoyed by it; intend to direct attention to yourself; and intend to sexually gratify yourself or offend someone else when you do it."
