Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak displayed ideal offense in preseason Week 2
The Seattle Seahawks made sweeping changes to their offensive scheme and personnel this offseason. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is being tasked with overseeing that unit. In Friday's blowout 33-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 of the preseason, Kubiak displayed exactly what he wants his offense to be this season. Seattle's first possession set the tone. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold led a 10-play, 81-yard touchdown drive that took five-and-a-half minutes. It was a well-balanced drive that featured six rushing attempts. Running back Zach Charbonnet capped it with a 15-yard touchdown run. Darnold completed all four of his passing attempts, to four different pass catchers. Seattle's second possession was equally as impressive despite several backups entering the game. Kubiak oversaw a nine-play, 85-yard scoring drive that began at his own 15-yard line. George Holani rushed for 30 yards on the opening play to immediately bring the offense near midfield. Holani had five rushing attempts on the nine-play drive that ended with a 12-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Drew Lock to Jake Bobo. Seattle's third drive stalled at KC's two-yard line when a fourth-down Lock pass fell incomplete. Despite that failure, it was still a 12-play drive that gained 74 yards down to the goal line. Following a safety, Seattle's fourth possession scored another touchdown, extending their first-half lead to 23-7. Kubiak's offense was firing on all cylinders. Head coach Mike Macdonald hired Kubiak to oversee a balanced offense that meshes passing concepts with a physical ground-game approach. The full range of its capabilities were on display in Friday's dominant showing versus the Chiefs.
